Albert Marcus, 72 years of age, surrounded by love departed this trusted earth on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
Albert was born on May 17, 1947 in Hell’s Kitchen, New York to the late Acy and Elizabeth Marcus. He is the youngest of seven children (the only child born in New York). The family moved to Harlem, New York in the early 1950’s. Harlem was home to Albert; he spoke often and read books about Harlem’s rich history and social significance. He resided in Harlem for over 60 years and was a faithful member of Congregational Church of God since childhood. Albert was educated in the New York City Public School System and later received an Associate Degree at Queens College. Albert married his wife of nearly 40 years, Vanessa Morgan Marcus on January 13, 1981, and one child, the late Zaid Marcus was born of this union. If there was Albert, there was Vanessa. Albert was reluctant to fly in airplanes, he and Vanessa traveled across the United States in an automobile with their son and later grandson Bryce visiting family and friends. He was known for “driving at his own speed” to ensure their safe arrival. Albert and Vanessa withstood tribulations during their marriage, “in sickness and health” they took care of each other. Albert was a strong provider and dedicated his life to his wife, son and grandson. Albert lived a life devoted to God and public service. He loved working in the church and cherished praising the Lord. He enjoyed music, singing, writing and helping others. Throughout his life, Albert sang in several different gospel groups and church choirs, including the Congregational Church of God Senior Choir and Men’s Group. He wrote and recorded original songs, including “Answer His Call” and “A Mid-Week Prayer Meeting”. Albert attended different churches and denominations. He served for years as custodian in his home-church. Albert is known for his shouts, “Amen, Amen” and “Praise Jesus,” as well as, the ability to sing a gospel song at any moment. Albert was employed with Con Edison for over 50 years. He served in different roles throughout the company, including field inspector and the legal department. During his tenure at Con Edison, he established a prayer group, sang with the Con Edison Christmas Choir, and volunteered at many Con Edison sponsored events. As a member of the choir, he would sing solos and tour different locations in New York City during the holiday season. Albert loved to read his bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on his face. He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend always thinking of others first. “To know him was to love him”. Albert leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Vanessa Morgan Marcus; son (predeceased) Zaid Marcus, five grandchildren, Bryce Marcus, Jourdyn, Ja Marcus, Zamarion and Za Quan, one sister, five brothers (three predeceased), and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

To My Husband‌ Dear Albert, We started this journey together over 40 years ago, and I want you to know that I thank God for every one of those days the good and bad. No matter how diverse the situations were, we made it together. We complimented each other in so many ways, when I was excitable you were calm, when I was weak you were strong, when you were sick, I provided you with care and comfort. Although you were a private person, you were also very sociable. I admire your humble spirit and dedication to serving and helping others. Now, your part of our journey is over here on earth. We will continue this journey together, when I see you again in heaven. Love You, V
The family wishes to sincerely thank you for your thoughts, prayers, cards, gifts and well wishes. We have seen a reflection of the love that our beloved, Albert Marcus, displayed and exemplified through the kindness that so many of you have extended to us during this time. Words are not sufficient to express our gratitude to God for your loving support.
