KHAATIM SHERRER EL
Khaatim is the Executive Director of Clinton Hill Community Action, a non-profit community development corporation in Newark’s South Ward Clinton Hill Neighborhood, focusing on quality, affordable housing, food security, environmental justice and economic empowerment. He brings more than twenty years of experience leading place based initiatives, managing collaboratives, and building organizational capacity.
Since its founding in 2019, Khaatim has raised nearly $1M to support redevelopment projects in Clinton Hill. He manages a growing staff of 22 fulltime employees, a $2.8M annual budget, and a new early childhood facility serving 198 children.
Khaatim Sherrer El is the president of Results Driven Consulting, llc, July 2009 – present.
His key responsibilities include managing projects for nonprofits, government and philanthropic organizations in the areas of early childhood education, youth development, community building and public policy.
His clients have included United Way, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s, Brick Education Network, Programs For Parents, and lsic. He contributed to a $30M Promise Neighborhoods grant submission for the South Ward Children’s Alliance, a place-based, two-generation collaborative action network of school partners, social service agencies and residents. He recently led Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, focusing on mentoring, violence reduction and living wage jobs for young men of color.
For the Annie E. Casey foundation’s Atlanta civic site, Khaatim secured $790,000 in public/private investments for a new learning complex, which includes a renovated elementary school and new childcare center; and developed a communications framework to engage and mobilize the membership of the black child development institute’s Atlanta affiliate in child and family focused policy advocacy
Khaatim is a graduate of Science Park High School. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Morehouse College (Atlanta, Georgia). While there, he became the first college student and youngest member ever elected to the Atlanta Board of Education. He earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Development, with a concentration in Change Management and Leadership, from Teachers College at Columbia University (New York, NY). He lives in Newark’s historic Weequahic neighborhood.
“My professional and civic background has centered on forging strategic partnerships to address social issues that build on a community’s capacity to both develop and be a part of the solutions.”
