A Virtuous Woman of God
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you (Mom) surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:25-31 (NIV)
Hercilia Alicia Lewis, lovingly known as “Barbie”, was born in Panamá, to Dolores Herbert (deceased) and Daniel McCollin (deceased) on Friday, October 15, 1948. Hercilia “Barbie” during her marriage to Winston Lewis, 4 children was born – Inocencia, Ricardo, Alberto and Julissa. Barbie relocated to Brooklyn, New York and dedicated her life to “Family Ministry”. She not only raised her children, but also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent priceless sacrificial time sharing the love of GOD not through words, but actions and taking care of everyone, sometimes even at her own expense. Her love for everyone she came in contact with was unconditional. She always had a word of encouragement for you, even when she was not having a good day. She was our biggest cheerleader and at any event she attended you couldn’t miss her voice. She was always up and ready to do whatever she could to help anyone who needed help and the most of the time the last one to go to bed. She would give you her last dime, and she always made sure she cooked enough and if you were hungry, you knew exactly where to go for a good hot meal. Family was everything to her, whether you were blood, extended or adopted, you experienced her unconditional love. She had a smile that lit up any room she walked into… that million dollar smile that even in your lowest moment brought a ray of sunshine and hope. Most of all Barbie was a pillar of strength, a prayer warrior that even during her pain, she dug deep and found that strength to encourage and share her love with everyone that came to visit or called her. We will miss her smile, voice, encouragement and her love. One thing that gives us peace and comfort is the fact that she had a personal relationship with God, and during the last few months of her life, she was a living example of faith, trust and faith in and through God. Her faith never waiver and she will always tell us “No matter what happens… Live Your Life!” Hercilia Alicia Lewis “Barbie”, leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Inocencia Chisolm (Jerome), Ricardo Lewis, Alberto Lewis and Julissa Lewis; her grandchildren, Adessa, Steven, Chelsea, Darren, Tatiyanna, Yanichel, Ricardo Jr., Yadith, Glen, Christian, Khameron and Nakia; her great-grandchildren, Alphonso, Alissia, Kamal and Cameron; her brothers and sisters, Duval, Delia, Diva, Delano, Derick and Jessi; adopted sister, Violeta (Lela); God-son, Cleto; God-daughter, Taisha; and a host of friends and family.
