Dr. Lovie Lilly

Panelist

Dr. Lovie Lilly is a seasoned and experienced educator with over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Her teaching and administrative practices in California and New Jersey have challenged her to the rigors and excitement of rural, suburban, and inner-city schools. At the age of twelve, during a Vacation Bible School, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and started this lifelong journey. In 1990, she received the Governor’s Teacher of the Year Recognition Award for New Jersey as an outstanding educator. This was only the beginning for this dedicated and committed visionary. With the pursuit for excellence in the field of education, Dr. Lilly was named as the Vice-Principal of the Year for the State of New Jersey in 1998. The National Association of Secondary School Principals, in conjunction with the McDonald’s Corporation bestowed her with this coveted award. Over the past several years, Dr. Lilly has been recognized for her scholarship from organizations such as the Met Life Scholarship for Principals’ and School Leaders and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation for Educational Leadership. Moreover, she has visited and studied the educational systems in countries such as South Africa, Senegal, The Gambia, Cuba, South Korea, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, China, and Haiti, and has presented at both national and international conferences. A graduate of Rowan University, with a background in English education, followed by an advanced degree from Loyola Marymount University in the area of reading specialization was not sufficient for Dr. Lilly. In 2005, Dr. Lilly earned a terminal degree in Educational Leadership and Organization from the University of Pennsylvania. Her dissertation entitled Emigrant Expectations vs. Immigrant Realities: A Case Study of Second-Generation Haitian Learners, was recognized for distinction by the university, and was published in May 2009 by VDM Verlag, a German publishing company. In December 2005, Dr. Lilly was ordained as a Minister of Education at the Chapel of the United Nations by Bishop Sylveta Hamilton-Gonzales of Q-Kingdom Ministries in Brooklyn, NY. Currently, Dr. Lilly is the Founder and CEO of Promise to Pray, Inc. This ministry, which was built on God’s Holy Word (Isaiah 54:13), is “without walls” and supports the spiritual, academic, social-emotional and general well-being of school age children. Since its inception, the ministry has sponsored Back to School Literacy Drives; supported families in navigating public school systems; hosted art parties to develop child creativity; and launched a line of cards that encourage children. She is an advocate for children’s educational rights and has extensively immersed herself in that cause.
