Guarantee:

During the first breeding season, if for any reason a purchased bull injures himself to where he is unable to service and settle a cow, we will provide either a satisfactory replacement, if one is available, or credit it in a future sale equal to the purchase price and less salvage value.

We define the first breeding season as the first 90 days following the day of turnout. Keep in mind this is not a mortality insurance policy. We suggest you contact an insurance representative to inquire about mortality insurance. We will replace and credit bulls when a licensed vet determines a bull to be a non-breeder within the first breeding season.

It is mandatory that you contact the seller immediately when an injury is discovered and within the first breeding season time frame.

terms & conditions:

All lots sell in agreement with the suggested guidelines of the American Simmental Association. For updated EPDs and information, visit www.simmental.org. Announcements made from the block and supplement sheet will take precedent over information printed in this catalog.

Welcome

On behalf of Stephens Beef Cattle, I gladly invite you to join us Saturday, March 23, 2024 for the 8th annual Stephens Genetic Advantage Bull Sale. Thank you to those that have believed in this program over the years. We can never thank you enough, because without the support, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

There’s no question that the cow-calf producers have the upper hand moving forward. Low cow numbers paired with high beef demand equals great times for our consumers! We sold cattle at the highest levels in the last six months of 2023, and there’s talk that 2024 could be even better. No matter what happens, good genetics will continue to shine through and drive premiums regardless of the market.

The outlook of the cattle business is bright and the excitement around bull and female sales is high. However, with the constant increase in input costs, we understand that you must invest in cattle that will produce. The set of bulls in this offering are performance oriented from a maternal base. They have been developed on a high roughage diet and grazed on fescue pasture. We have given close attention to feet, legs and testicular development to ensure longevity and fertility. Our bulls have also been genomically tested to provide you with a better gauge on EPDs, coat color and polled status. Overall, we feel confident these bulls will produce progeny that are functional in terms of structural soundness, longevity, calving ease, disposition, fertility, and pounds when they cross the scales. The set of females offered are pasture raised and bred to some of the best bulls that will without a doubt advance your maternal side.

We look forward to seeing you Saturday, March 23rd 2024. If you have any questions or would like to view the bulls prior to the sale, feel free to reach out to Jeff or myself.

LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) should be given only by subcutaneous injection in front of the shoulder at the recommended dosage level of 1 mg eprinomectin per kg body weight (1 mL per 110 lb body weight). Each mL of LONGRANGE contains 50 mg of eprinomectin, sufficient to treat 110 lb (50 kg) body weight. Divide doses greater than 10 mL between two injection sites to reduce occasional discomfort or site reaction.

Each mL of LONGRANGE contains

Do not underdose. Ensure each animal receives a complete dose based on a current body weight. Underdosing may result in ineffective treatment, and encourage the development of parasite resistance.

LONGRANGE is to be given subcutaneously only. Animals should be appropriately restrained to achieve the proper route of administration. Inject under the loose skin in front of the shoulder (see illustration) using a 16 or 18 gauge, ½ to ¾ inch needle.

Sanitize the injection site by applying a suitable disinfectant. Clean, properly disinfected needles should be used to reduce the potential for injection site infections.

DESCRIPTION

Withdrawal Periods and Residue Warnings

LONGRANGE is to be given subcutaneously only. Animals should be appropriately restrained to achieve the proper route of administration. Inject under the loose skin in front of the shoulder (see illustration) using a 16 or 18 gauge, ½ to ¾ inch needle. Sanitize the injection site by applying a suitable disinfectant. Clean, properly disinfected needles should be used to reduce the potential for injection site infections.

Animals intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within 48 days of the last treatment. This drug product is not approved for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, including dry dairy cows. Use in these cattle may cause drug residues in milk and/or in calves born to these cows. A withdrawal period has not been established for pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

Animal Safety Warnings and Precautions

The product is likely to cause tissue damage at the site of injection, including possible granulomas and necrosis. These reactions have disappeared without treatment. Local tissue reaction may result in trim loss of edible tissue at slaughter.

LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) is a ready-to-use, sterile injectable preparation containing eprinomectin, a member of the macrocyclic lactone class of antiparasitics. Each mL of LONGRANGE contains 50 mg of eprinomectin in a co-solvent system of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (30% v/v) and triacetin (qs), along with 50 mg of poly-lactide-co-glycolic-acid 75:25 (PLGA), a polymer that allows a slow release of eprinomectin from the formulation, thereby maintaining a prolonged duration of product effectiveness. Butylated hydroxytoluene (0.2 mg/ mL) acts as an antioxidant in the formulation. The chemical name of eprinomectin is 4”-deoxy-4”-epiacetylamino-avermectin B1 It is a semi-synthetic member of the avermectin family of compounds consisting of a mixture of two homologous components, B1a and B1b which differ by a single methylene group at C26

INDICATIONS FOR USE

When to Treat Cattle with Grubs

50 mL bottle size: Use only polypropylene syringes. Not for use with polycarbonate syringe material. If syringe material is not known, contact the syringe manufacturer prior to use for identification. Do not use beyond 3 months after stopper has been punctured. Discard bottle after 15 stopper punctures. 250 mL and 500 mL bottle sizes: Use only automatic syringe equipment provided by Merial. To obtain compatible equipment, contact Merial at 1-888637-4251 or your veterinarian. LONGRANGE should not be stored in automatic syringe equipment. Automatic syringe equipment should be thoroughly cleaned after each use. Discard bottle after one stopper puncture with draw-off spike. Alternatively, a 50-mL polypropylene repeater syringe compatible with LONGRANGE may be used. To obtain a list of compatible equipment, contact Merial at 1-888-637-4251. When using a repeater syringe, do not use beyond 3 months after stopper has been punctured. Discard bottle after 15 punctures. LONGRANGE should not be stored in the repeater syringe. No special handling or protective clothing is necessary.

Observe cattle for injection site reactions. If injection site reactions are suspected, consult your veterinarian. This product is not for intravenous or intramuscular use. Protect product from light. LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) has been developed specifically for use in cattle only. This product should not be used in other animal species.

LONGRANGE effectively controls all stages of cattle grubs. However, proper timing of treatment is important. For the most effective results, cattle should be treated as soon as possible after the end of the heel fly (warble fly) season.

Environmental Hazards

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

Withdrawal Periods and Residue Warnings

Not for use in cattle managed in feedlots or under intensive rotational grazing because the environmental impact has not been evaluated for these scenarios.

Other Warnings: Parasite resistance may develop to any dewormer, and has been reported for most classes of dewormers.

LONGRANGE, when administered at the recommended dose volume of 1 mL per 110 lb (50 kg) body weight, is effective in the treatment and control of the following internal and external parasites of cattle:

Gastrointestinal Roundworms Lungworms

Use in these cattle may cause drug residues in milk and/or in calves born to these cows. A withdrawal period has not been established for pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

User Safety Warnings

Treatment with a dewormer used in conjunction with parasite management practices appropriate to the geographic area and the animal(s) to be treated may slow the development of parasite resistance. Fecal examinations or other diagnostic tests and parasite management history should be used to determine if the product is appropriate for the herd/flock, prior to the use of any dewormer. Following the use of any dewormer, effectiveness of treatment should be monitored (for example, with the use of a fecal egg count reduction test or another appropriate method).

LONGRANGE (EPRINOMECTIN) IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Do not treat within 48 days of slaughter. Not for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, including dry dairy cows, or in veal calves. Post-injection site damage (e.g., granulomas, necrosis) can occur. These reactions have disappeared without treatment. Not for use in breeding bulls, or in calves less than 3 months of age. Not for use in cattle managed in feedlots or under intensive rotational grazing.

Cooperia punctata – Adults and L4

Cooperia surnabada – Adults and L4

Haemonchus placei – Adults Grubs

Not for Use in Humans. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. The material safety data sheet (MSDS) contains more detailed occupational safety information. To report adverse effects, to obtain an MSDS, or for assistance, contact Merial at 1-888-637-4251. For additional information about adverse drug experience reporting for animal drugs, contact FDA at 1-888-FDAVETS, or http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary.

A decrease in a drug’s effectiveness over time as calculated by fecal egg count reduction tests may indicate the development of resistance to the dewormer administered. Your parasite management plan should be adjusted accordingly based on regular monitoring.

Animal Safety Warnings and Precautions

Macrocyclic lactones provide prolonged drug exposure that may increase selection pressure for resistant parasites. This effect may be more pronounced in extended-release formulations.

The product is likely to cause tissue damage at the site of injection, including possible granulomas and necrosis. These reactions have disappeared without treatment. Local tissue reaction may result in trim loss of edible tissue at slaughter.

Clinical studies have demonstrated the wide margin of safety of LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin). Overdosing at 3 to 5 times the recommended dose resulted in a statistically significant reduction in average weight gain when compared to the group tested at label dose. Treatment-related lesions observed in most cattle administered the product included swelling, hyperemia, or necrosis in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin. The administration of LONGRANGE at 3 times the recommended therapeutic dose had no adverse reproductive effects on beef cows at all stages of breeding or pregnancy or on their calves.

When to Treat Cattle with Grubs

LONGRANGE effectively controls all stages of cattle grubs. However, proper timing of treatment is important. For the most effective results, cattle should be treated as soon as possible after the end of the heel fly (warble fly) season. Destruction of Hypoderma larvae (cattle grubs) at the period when these grubs are in vital areas may cause undesirable host-parasite reactions, including the possibility of fatalities. Killing Hypoderma lineatum when it is in the tissue surrounding the esophagus (gullet) may cause salivation and bloat; killing H. bovis when it is in the vertebral canal may cause staggering or paralysis. These reactions are not specific to treatment with LONGRANGE, but can occur with any successful treatment of grubs. Cattle should be treated either before or after these stages of grub development. Consult your veterinarian concerning the proper time for treatment.

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels.

Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.

Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.

Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.

Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.

Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first- calving daughters.

Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.

Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.

Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.

Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.

Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak.

Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.

Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario.

Definitions of Terms Continued...

Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.

Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.

EXPLANATION OF HOW TO UTILIZE API & TI INDEXES:

First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentileranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more information, visit www.simmental.org.
