s m r a F M Ci rcle 2 nd annual production sale
i
e m o c Wel
We are extremely excited to welcome you back to Circle M Farms for our 2nd Annual
Production sale. We had a great first production sale and the cattle that we featured went on to do very well for our customers, both in the show ring and pasture.
Throughout the last year, we were fortunate enough to be awarded Premier Breeder
and Exhibitor at the American Royal, Premier Exhibitor at the North American, and Premier Breeder at the National Western.
It has been an extremely challenging year in Texas, as well as many other parts of the
country, weather-wise. We have gone from a very wet spring to an almost unbearably dry summer. Despite those challenges, we are very proud of the cattle we have worked so hard for and excited to debut them for you here at our ranch.
Please join us Friday evening to view the cattle pre-sale, followed by dinner and live
music. Please also make plans to attend the Black Label Sale on Sunday. Thank you for your continued support,
Greg Burden Craig McCallum

PRE-ENTERED FOR AMERICAN ROYAL & NORTH AMERICAN
The tradition continues by starting off the best with the best at Circle M! This unique breeding piece is the perfect “genetic blend”. This threequarter female, with all the markings of greatness, maintains the breeding flexibility to make those next generation purebreds or percentage cattle of your liking. She is stellar in her kind with a brilliantly designed foot, hind leg, and plentiful bone. The rib design from forerib to flank is unchallenged with a huge open top and hip to leave the competition behind. Quantum Leap continues his winning ways through this and others in the offering, but this one has a sister that was crowned Reserve Champion % Female at the 2016 National Western that went through this very ring a year ago. Buy half interest with the option to double down.

They love to make Simangus cattle here at Circle M and rightfully so with the quality of Angus females on the ranch and their senior Angus herdsire at bay, Tejas. She has that big, soft, Lookout influenced center body and her width of skeleton contributed by her powerful donor dam, there’s no question why she is built the way she is. The track record for success runs high in these initial lots, insuring the tradition. Selling half interest, and Circle M retains show rights through her career.

The Y251 donor family left a significant presence on the 2015 offering and we expect her 2016 class to be no different. In fact, this lead off daughter by the Champion himself, Quantum Leap, may be the best one to date. We are impressed by her flawless build and design as this extra long, skinny necked, great chested female has a dynamite profile with perfect shape to her hip and stifle, and when she drives that hind wheel, it’s as near to perfection as we think can be achieved. She is a standout, and we think super star status when we evaluate her, but we’ll let you make that call on the 15th of October. 508D, the full sister to the lead off Spring Open, is a cowier, softer built version of her sister. The keeping/marketable kind that consistently comes from the same cow, makes this investment decision all that much more elementary.

These are the full sisters to the $20,000 acquisition made by, Circle T, Silverstone, Armuth, and Lundy Farms in 2015, the $5500, 4th Overall for the Berlowitz family, and the $10000 future donor for Owen Brothers. So, if you take out the $20000 hammer price on the Y251 open sister sold in 2015 and average the other two, they averaged $7750. Something to think about, if you had 50 cows that produced 50 calves that averaged $7750.00/ calf sold, that would yield a total dollar amount of $387,500, not bad for a year. Enough about economics, getting back to the stock, they display a lot of similarities, as they should. They are all the big bodied, cowy kind that represent form and function for the pasture with loads of center and shape. It’s also evident and supported by factual information that these cattle are suited for any role within your respective program. Right for the pasture kind, that will compete even in the largest of arenas.

Tejas is the best 414 son in the country and we believe he would rival his sire group for the same distinction. He is consistent from one cow to the next assisting with pattern, rib, and shape as he carries his own branding tools. This one, from a past champion, is definitely no exception and we believe it’s a challenge to build one any better than this one from the side. Flawless lines, exquisite pattern, yet loose enough geared in her skeleton to allow for faultfree motion. She’s the Simgenetic ticket for success for sure.

This may be the best Angus open in the sale that continues to “honk it on” (Greg Burden’s trademark quote for weight). She’s a breeding piece for sure, but what we like is what this one continues to do developmentally. For the Angus world, she might be a tick on the moderate side for the tan bark, but she is more than suitable for production. In our opinion, she would be a fresh addition to any show string in the nation. This female is way good, with a prototypical front one third and then doubled with belly, superb skeleton, and great cow power on the bottom. This pair of full sisters is derived from the Tiara cow family that put Kearns Cattle Company on the Simgenetic map just a few short years ago. The Tiara flush to WAGR Driver yielded a set of females and sons that were admired by many. In fact, the full bothers to the dam of these two were Champion Pen in Denver, not so long ago. 130Z was a unique blend of power, shape, and design. Much like any critter, she had her flaws, but power, build, and kind were not the issue. We are very fond of the Quantum Leap sisters and come sale day or a pre sale visit to the ranch you will understand why. The elegance of 356 will favor her sire’s cool front third, and smoothness of kind. Where as in 150, the presence of her dam is evident but enhanced in her movement. This is a pair that will need to be looked for and studied. You’ll notice the consistency in the mating in your evaluation, as the notes should reflect very similar characteristics in terms of width, depth, soundness, and kind.

The tradition at Circle M is one of Winning Nature as this book may seem redundant in such a manner. However, it’s a direct result of what we discussed when we introduced the 2016 sale offering. Lot 28 is another example by a champion and from a champion. This perfect double shot blend of style, balance, and overall show ring presence is demonstrated so well through this individual.

This very well may be the sleeper of the Angus Party. Sired by the past Griswold highseller, King George, and from a young Brilliance dam, she stacks some things for her future in her favor. Big ribbed, sound structure, and a great look; just give her some time and you will reap the rewards.

We are excited about this trio of sisters by our lead herdsire, Quantum Leap, but more excited by their dam, W901. Shape, dimension, power with added look, and structure is what we find common among the three. They also share the likeness of pin width, depth of quarter, along with length and accuracy of stride. We like these three and we’ll let you sort the differences between them.

She is the Feature Donor of the 2016 offering with progeny to further prove her worth! Her roadmap has been set since our acquisition of her from Hudson Pines. Production is where she has excelled, raised the bar on the ranch if you will, and has been identified as an exquisite donor since her first calf. Her Upper Class daughter from a year ago had a lot of friends and we believe these Quantum Leaps will lead off several short lists come sale day. She is a Dominance daughter from the famed Perfection cow family, which leads to the conclusion of foot size, substance, and power. Yet, we feel that she is elegant in her broodiness and know that great programs are built and continued through females like W901. Buy with overconfidence that she will return on investment and please note the bred females from her that follow in this sale book. All the homework is done and your map to success is laid out for your taking.

The Featured Youth in Production at Circle M is offered as Lot 36….. We are proud to offer the 2016 San Antonio Jr. Simmental Champion, both shown and owned by Bryntlee Wilkerson. This female is a full sister to our first high seller going to Thomas Ranch two years ago. The absolute coolest factor with this female is that as good as she looked while she was campaigned, we believe she is undeniably better looking in production. Udder perfection, huge footed, wide based, heavy structured, big middled, big backed, big ended, and feminine excellence in her front one third….if you can tell, we simply think she is ideal for any scenario. Show cattle, performance cattle, and good cattle will all be generated from females like her and there needs to be more like her without question. She’s the right kind, the right size, and the right one for your program’s future.

We feel strongly about the future of the 025B female. She’s one that’s stout, broody, wide built, and opens up huge in her forerib, a trait considered desirable but often rare. Let’s also recognize that she covers her track with elegance and her front one third descends from the top of her shoulder while maintaining the same carriage. There’s no question she is one of the few of her kind to be offered this Fall.

This pair of sisters represent the U784 donor and they are by, the proven sire of choice by many, Steel Force. In the freshman year of Circle M Production Sales, this mating averaged $8000 on a pair of open full sibs. We have taken these two to the next production phase and offer them for your appraisal as mature, bred females and we are confident you will like the kind. We think that when redundancy exists in a sale offering, it’s a good thing. A lot of the offering is sound in their feet, functional in their kind, wide constructed, deep and good lined equaling a high quality product.

The Wheel Man influence with Desa Rae W102….. Wheel Man has done a solid job in a lot of programs across the country but his influence is solidified by the influence of dams like W102. Big outlined, high performing females like these two will never go out of style. Big footed with ground grabbing motion when in stride is synonymous in this pair along with depth and length of side.

The daughters of Last Call…. Last Call was acquired as an outcross sire of choice to all Legacy influenced pedigrees, but when his numbers came back, it was an added bonus. Still today he ranks in the top 3% of the breed for marbling and API while being in the top 10% for Calving Ease. It’s always been evident to us for his place in our program, but we believe this set of near mature females is a great representation of what’s ahead for this sire group.
P B S M | D OB: 9.2.14 | ASA: 3094300 | TATTOO: 130 B
This particular Last Call is from the Tiara cow line represented by a pair of Quantum Leap daughters in the open offering. She assumes the power and shape brought to our program by her dam and offers the balance of symmetry, smoothness and length of her sire. She’s a very complete breeding piece loaded with carcass and the look.

The United sire group is one of the best Simangus sire groups in the business. He’s a bull that can work with on both sides of the aisle, if you will, he is utilized to enhance numbers, performance, and phenotype. The influence of Dew The Stroke doesn’t hurt an individual like lot 62 when sired by the likes of United for sure. In fact, this bred blends the likes of Legacy and Powerstroke which is a given for maternal and carcass combined. She’s a definite must study and would be a great addition to any program. These females are mates to the 21k high selling female at the 2015 Buckles and Banners. They are tied to one of the most profitable flushes of simgenetic cattle in our first production sale a year ago as maternal sisters that gathered $38000 on three head. Their dam is a past champion that has paid for herself time and again; like a gift that keeps on giving. We are certain that these females will walk in the like path forged by their dam and siblings with the valid influence of United. A year ago a flush of Brush Creek daughters averaged over $16000. Lot 10, selected by Owen Brothers, went on to be the Reserve Champion Percentage Female at the National Western this year. There’s a pair of full sisters to those heifers in the first two slots of this very useful trio of bred cattle. We think a lot of the Brush Creek cattle and recognize their flexible use to other aspects of the beef industry. There’s no reservations on any of these three in terms of quality and kind and we feel like they are mated as right as they can be for a positive return on investment. With the influence of the great Daines Zenyatia 32X and Joy 802U, how could you go wrong adding these to any breeding program?

The one cow that Craig set out to acquire from the famed Triple C program’s dispersal is the dam of this trendy daughter of Upper Class, the one and only, Liberty. Upon acquisition of the legendary female, she was in a stale and stagnant phase of reproduction, but due to dedication of a great animal husbandry team, she’s back on track and working very successfully. Expect more to come from this cow family in future Circle M sale offerings. If you like them saturated with pedigree and a modern look, you should find this female on your short list October 15.

The bred cattle from the Rocking P division are as real world as they get. The cattle forage on fescue pasture with minimal inputs, but yet they outproduce their means and their dams bring big calves to the weaning pen annually. If you like them broody, easy fleshing, and built with great longevity in mind, then the next four will be on your list October 15. The Love Me Don’t You and Caliente cow families highlight the selection. A year ago, a progressive breeder bought the very last heifer through the sale ring A.I.ed to Quantum Leap, based on her cow family was the reason for the purchase, the resulting calf is his best and most valuable calf on the ranch.

A breeding program can be defined in a lot of different ways. Technology has allowed us to “multiply success” through embryo transfer and IVF, but almost to the point that the actual working cowherd is non-existent. The “market” and land availability has steered smaller breeders to focusing on a handful of cows and running commercial cows or recipients where a natural calving cow once was. The working cowherd allows for contemporary groups and ratios where as DNA is used to determine the like values of ET calves. The program also focuses on limited bull selection to be used within the herd to tighten the gene pool, thus, assumingly, enhancing uniformity or like kinds in greater number. A beginning program acquires those bulls suitable for the production goals of the ranch and then management maintains a path of discipline and unwavering focus by using the genetics at hand, progressively mating the right animals to one another, branding the progeny with the prefix, and continuing the cycle to the next step. When that program sets out to market the results of their dedication, their ultimate wish is for each one of the cattle sold to carry the brand or prefix and one day that four generation pedigree will only have that program brand in each pedigree line. That will be the case here at Circle M and it will be the path that Craig McCallum and staff will continue down to remain in their elite status. Craig did an amazing job assembling some of the breed’s best cows and cow families to not only excel on the tan bark, but to also produce bulls for breeders and commercial outfits alike. The Ownership and Staff have an insatiable desire to be the best and breed the best each and every time. As you study this book, evaluate the information and photos, I think you will trend to agree that as good as last year’s set was for your appraisal, the class of 2016, the sophomore class of the Circle M Production Sale series is undoubtedly much improved from 2015. Several of the open heifers and breds are maternal and full sibs to those sold a year ago. The bred heifers are saturated with pedigreed and bred up to match what supports them genetically. And, the donor offering is very exciting in it’s own right with proof positive progeny in the offering to represent just that. It’s no secret that the commercial market place if off from a year ago. Those of us that pursue our daily livelihood in the beef industry knew there would be a correction, and that correction has been made. It’s evident that it’s leveled out and going to go back in the right direction. Yes, it’s also an election year, an uncertain one at best, but we are in PRODUCTION AGRICULUTRE. We are the fighting, resilient kind that survives without government bailouts. The undoubted upside in times like we’ve experienced in the last 6 months are times to take advantage of the market place and invest in the kind of cattle that work. The registered beef female has more value today than her commercial contemporaries because she is certified. Ranches like Circle M have done everything possible to make her a value added product through a stringent herd health program and extraordinary bull selection for the breeding schematic. These cattle will turn profit and some will have multiple returns on investment. Now is not the time to lay low, it’s the time to be aggressive and acquire outstanding seedstock that will take your seedstock or commercial program to the next level. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you October 14 and 15th at the Ranch just outside of Grand Saline.
