The Family Y is one of sixteen social service agengies supported by the United Way. In 2013, the Family Y gave over 530 scholarships so people in need could send children to camp and participate in over a dozen youth programs.

Indoor Triathlon

Test your stamina and race against the clock! The Y will be hosting it’s first ever indoor triathlon on Saturday, February 22, 2014. You will be allotted a certain amount of time for each event and your goal is to cover as much distance as you can in that amount of time. See page 8 for details.

Adult 5v5 Basketball League Games will be played on Monday nights from December 2 through mid March. Teams’ win/loss records will be used to determine end-of-season tournament play. Pick up a registration form in November at the front desk. Team captains are to attend a pre-season meeting. Members and non-members welcome. $380 per team.

Pick-Up Soccer for All Ages Open soccer for all ages will be Wednesday nights from 6:30-10:30pm beginning in November. Members: $0 Non-Members: $3

Adult Racquetball League

Adult Volleyball The volleyball nets can be set up upon request with advanced notice. Call the Y or ask the front desk.

Racquetball/Wallyball Courts Courts can be reserved up to 24 hours in advance. Non-members must pay the daily admission fee to play.

Adult Pick-Up Basketball Pick-up games are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-1:00pm

Sunday Soccer Begins October 27, 2013 and runs through April 2014. Time is 5:30-10:30pm. $2.50 for players and spectators.

Sign up for the A,B, or C League. Registration opens in November. League play will begin December 2. The length of league play depends on the number of entrants (typically 1215 weeks). Players’ scores throughout the season will be used to determine end-of-season tournament play. Member: $8 Non-Member: $25

Adult Pick-Up Pickleball Pickleball equipment is available at the front desk for checkout. Two courts are also marked in the gym. Pick up games take place at various times. Common times of play are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:00pm.

Fountain Lake 5 The Fountain Lake 5 is a five mile run, jog, or walk around Fountain Lake and takes place on April 26. Entry includes a dry-fit t -shirt and post-race refreshments. Awards are given to the top male and female and to the 1st-3rd place finishers in each age group. Check out page 8 for more information.

Youth Outdoor Soccer Middle School Dodgeball League January 6-February 10 Gather a team of your friends and dodge, New duck, dip and dive your way to victory! ! There will be 5 weeks of regular season play, then 1 week of playoff games. Teams can be made of boys and/or girls. Members and non-members welcome. Teams must consist of 5-8 players. Five players will be on the court at a time. Sign your team up at the Y prior to the start of the season. All team members must be in 6th or 7th grade. Gym shoes must be worn, no street shoes. Mondays 3:45-4:45pm. $5/team member for the entire 6 weeks

June/July Children ages 3-10 are invited to participate in the Y’s outdoor soccer program. Games take place at the Y and being in June. Watch for more information in the summer program guide!

British Soccer Camp June 2013 The Albert Lea Family Y and the Albert Lea Soccer Association have teamed up to host the Challenger Sports Company’s Bristish Soccer Camp. Camp runs June 9-13, 2014.

Youth Sports

April 5—May 17 Youth volleyball is for boys and girls in grades K-5. Practices and games are played on Saturday mornings and teams are divided by age groups. Times of games to be determined. Free t-shirt with registration!


Kids Day Off Throughout the school year there are several days with no school for the kids. On those week days, the place for K-5 elementary school youth to be is the Y! We offer games, crafts, group activities, swimming and lots of fun. Children can arrive as early as 7:00am and must be picked up by 6:00pm. The Y staff lead all activities. Parents need to bring a sack lunch, swim suit and towel for their children. Members: $20 Non-Members: $30 School’s Out Parents: Be sure to register your children in advance. For children not enrolled in School’s Out Program: Payment is required before your children participate. Attention Parents: Be sure to register your children for the day in advance. The fees listed are the preregistration fees. You’re still allowed to register the day of, but there will be an extra $5.00 charge per child. Pre-registration ensures we have the appropriate amount of staff and materials for projects.

The Y’s School’s Out Program Looking for a safe, fun place for your children to go after school? Try the Y’s School’s Out program at Lakeview, Halverson, Hawthorne, and Sibley. This program is for children grades K-5 and is run by the Y in cooperation with District 241. The program starts when school is over and ends at 6:00pm. Activities include games, group activities, snack time, crafts, study time and occasional field trips. Participating youth will be bussed to the Y once each month to take part in special enrichment activities. There will be a site coordinator and supervisors at all activities. $34 week per child for members and non-members $40 one-time registration fee $5 one-time registration fee for additional siblings Limited sliding fee assistance available The program will run every day school is in session!

Family Time Every Sunday from 2:00-4:00pm during the 2013-2014 school year bring the entire gang to enjoy the Family Y. Come and use the gym, racquetball courts, and swimming pool. Families must pay before 3:15pm. Members: Free Non-Members: $8/family, Sundays only

Playroom Service The playroom child care service is for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years while their parents are at the Y. Monday—Friday: 8:30am-11:00am Monday—Friday: 5:00pm-7:30pm Saturday: 8:45am-12:00pm Payment for playroom services is by playroom cards only. Cards can be purchased at the front desk and come in increments of $12 or $24. Fee: $2.00 per child per hour

Parent & Toddler Stay-4-Play Parent & Toddler Stay-4-Play is an opportunity for toddlers and pre-schoolers to be active with their parent(s) through games and activities in the gym. This is a parent run class, so come and enjoy some time away from home with your children. Toy cars, balls, nets, a parachute, and other equipment will be available for the children to play with. You may also bring your ride-on toys to use in the gym. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30am-12:00pm. Children 0-12 months are free. Members: Free Non-Members: $2 per child, max $5 per family


The 3:30 Fit Club is for 6th & 7th grade students that want to have fun and be active after school. Participating in this program will help students burn off extra energy, experience different avenues of fitness, and learn about living a healthy lifestyle. After completing a session of the

3:30 Fit Club, students receive a free membership to the Y for one year! For more information contact Susie at the Y. Ask about transportation from Southwest Middle School to the Y after school. Teen Night Teens may enter the Family Y free of charge on Fridays by presenting their Student ID from Southwest Middle School. Albert Lea Senior High School students may attend with their ID for $2.00. See gym and pool schedule for hours.

Team Trainings Team trainings are for groups of 5 or more athletes of any kind or any age. Whether your sport is hockey, wrestling or Tough Mudding, these group trainings are designed to push your team to the next level of fitness specific to their sport. Groups will meet twice a week for one hour for 7 weeks. Members: $70 Non-Members: $140

Summer Camp 2014 It’s never too early to think about what the kids are going to do this summer! The Y’s Summer Day Camp program is for children who just finished Kindergarten through 6th grade. Daily activities include games, crafts, sports, learning opportunities and swimming! In addition to the daily activities, campers also take part in canoeing, hiking, bowling, and field trips to local attractions. Past field trips include Waseca Water Park, Bounce World, and Como Zoo. Personal Training

Based on your specific fitness goals, your personal trainer will work with you one-on-one to provide exercise prescription and hands-on feedback. Fill out paperwork at the front desk to request a trainer. Costs are based on one-hour trainings. Members: $25/single one-hour training $84/package of 4 one-hour trainings Non-Members: $42/single one-hour training $168/package of 4 one hour trainings

Small Group Training Small group training consists of 2-4 people who want to work with a trainer. This is a great, cost effective way to get the results that are catered to your groups’ goals. SilverSneakers® Fitness Program SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading older adult fitness program aiming to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, agility, and coordination. SilverSneakers memberships to the Family Y are provided with Humana, Medica or BCBS Platinum Blue Insurance Plans. Contact your insurance provider to see if you are eligible for a Y membership. For more information, contact the front desk. SilverSneakers classes are also offered. Classes are free for members or $5 per class time for non-members.

Fitness Assessments A fitness assessment can include one or all of the following: resting blood pressure, body fat analysis, strength and/or endurance , and flexibility. Call the Y to schedule an appointment. Members: $15 Non-Members: $25

Fountain Lake 5 Orientations Whether you’re new to working out, new to our facility or a long time fitness pro, a Y staff member can walk you through the proper way to use the equipment in our SMB room (where all the cardio and weight machines are located). Not only do we talk about equipment, we can educate you on the standard exercise recommendations and help you get started with a routine. We can answer questions such as: How often should I do cardio and strength training? How many minutes should I exercise? How much weight should I be lifting? How many reps should I do? To schedule an orientation contact Susie or the front desk! Orientations are free to members!

Children’s fun runs also take place the same morning at Brookside. Look for brochures at the Y for more details.

Land Classes

CSI: Cardio Strength Interval Alternate segments of cardio and strength training exercises and you got one great workout! Get in as many reps as you can (or care to) in each time segment and modify each exercise to your liking; this is why all levels are welcome! No dance-like choreography, just exercise. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Kettlebells Your instructor will guide you through a series of power and momentum based movements using the kettlebell. This is an intense cardio and strength training workout rolled into one. You must be orientated to kettlebells prior to attending class. Orientations are made on the first class of the session or by appointment with the instructor. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week SilverSneakers Classic Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and ease of daily living. Dumbells, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and/ or standing support. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Step and Tone A class that performs choreography using the step platform and also mixes in other toning exercises. A tried and true classic! Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Lean Body Strength Training Strength training for the entire body! The first 45 minutes alternates between the body’s major muscle groups. The last 15 minutes includes floor work—anything from pilates and yoga to resistance ball and mat work. *It’s recommended that you warm up

for 5-10 minutes prior to class.

Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Mat Conditioning Using pilates, yoga and other body weight exercises, this class aims to strengthen the core and a variety of other muscle groups. This gentle, no-impact class still packs a punch so expect to sweat! Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week

Tabata

Tabata is the training method that aims to improve both your aerobic and anaerobic capacities in one workout. In layman’s terms: a high intensity interval challenge! This class is great for those who want hard and fast workout in a short amount of time. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Yoga Tighten and tone the body, enhance balance, improve flexibility and build core strength through different yoga poses and focused breathing. This mind-body workout improves health, athletic performance and mental acuity in people of all ages and fitness levels! Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week YogaFit for Seniors These series of poses and methods will allow seniors to increase muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and stamina. The class also promotes a deeper mind/body connection that will help mental acuity and stress reduction. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week

ZUMBA

This is a high energy cardio class that utilizes Latin music and dance to energize and strengthen your entire body. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week

Water Classes

Deep Water Workout Because this class is done in the deep water, zero impact is experienced by the joints. Intermediate and advanced levels. No swimming experience is needed, a float belt may be worn. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Swimnastics Enjoy a refreshing workout as you tone and strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. This shallow water class enables you to exercise with less strain and impact on joints. Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Joints in Motion This water exercise class is for any age male or female that experiences mobility issues such as arthritis, MS, or injuries. The low impact movements and range of motion exercises will keep your body healthy and your joints moving. (Formerly known as Rusty Hinges). Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week Joints in Motion 2 This class is the advanced more intense version of the Joints in Motion class. Class includes range of movement exercises, low and high impact movements, intensity intervals, and strength training. Keep your body moving and healthy! Non-Members: $28 per session/one day a week

Cycling Classes Indoor Cycling Your instructor will simulate a group ride as you travel on flat roads, climb hills, chase the pack, or race to the finish line! All levels welcome. Non-Member: $28 per session/one day a week Perpetual Motion per·pet·u·al; adjective. Continuing or enduring forever; everlasting. This class alternates bouts of cycling and bouts of strength training off the bike. A great combination of strength and cardio that will leave you asking for more! Non-Member: $28 per session/one day a week Cycle Kettlebells

Cycling and kettlebells are both great high energy workouts, so why not combine them into one? This class alternates segments of cycling and kettlebell exercises for a total calorie blast. You must be orientated to kettlebells prior to attending class. Orientations are made on the first class of the session or by appointment with the instructor. Non-Member: $28 per session/one day a week

Swim Lessons

Parent-Toddler Swim Lessons (1&2 yr olds) Parent-Preschool Swim Lessons (3&4 yr olds) Parents/guardians are in the water with the child. This is an instructor led class intended to help young children become comfortable and safe in and around water. Techniques will be taught to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner. These classes involve both parent and child in the water. Parent and child will focus on floating and basic skills. Members: $31 Non-Members: $46

YMCA Swim Lessons The Albert Lea Family Y’s curriculum offers different skill levels that emphasizes stroke mechanics, water games, personal safety, rescue skills and stamina. Please see the Y swim lessons flyer to see how the Y levels compare to Red Cross levels and to find out which level best suits your swimmer. Registration begins two weeks before the first lesson of each session. Levels with fewer than two swimmers may be cancelled or combined with a group one level above or below. Private Swim Lessons—Youth & Adult

Private swim lessons allow you to work at your own pace with an instructor. Learn to swim for the first time or perfect certain strokes. Schedule your classes around your schedule. Contact the Y for scheduling information. Participants must fill out a registration form. Red Cross Lifeguarding For ages 15 and older. Red Cross Lifeguarding is a national certificate that is recognized by many organizations. Those who successfully complete this course will receive certification in life guarding, first aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. Prerequisites include a minimum age of 15 and strong swimming ability. For more information, contact Robyn Sailor.

Pool Classification Lap Swim: Open to all ages for the purpose of swimming laps. Open/Lap: Two Lane max. will be set up for lap swimming. Open Swim: All ages open to free swim. Children under age 8 must have a responsible person in pool with them. No lap lanes will be in pool for open swim.
