It is always a pleasure to report good news, especially in these times of “austerity”. The official inauguration in April of the stunningly remodelled Port Adriano represents a robust act of faith in the ongoing prominence and potential of Mallorca as one of the world’s premier boating destinations. Featuring state-of-the-art commercial and communal areas designed by Philippe Starck, and new mooring berths for mega-yachts, the marina has been expanded and revamped in accordance with strict environmental quality standards, ensuring its future as an elegant international showcase of cutting-edge 21st century port amenities. Next issue we will have full coverage of the celebrations, including the official inauguration on 26 April and the associated Superyacht Days from 28 to 30 April. In the meantime, this first issue of spring is packed with special features and sections to help us enjoy the great Mallorcan outdoors this year. For the past 35 years comic-book characters have been leaping out of the pages and onto the silver screen and now Marvel Studios are giving us the mother of all superhero movies. Back in 2006 the studio started a long-term plan with Iron Man (ROBERT DOWNEY JR.), followed by The Incredible Hulk (MARK RUFFALO), then Thor (CHRIS HEMSWORTH) and finally last year Captain America (CHRIS EVANS), to complete the most formidable superhero team the silver screen has ever seen. Global security is threatened when Loki (TOM HIDDLESTONE), Thor’s adoptive brother/nemesis, comes to Earth with the idea of ruling the human race and giving his sibling a tough time. During all the above movies, Nick Fury (SAMUEL L. JACKSON) has made a cameo appearance assembling this alliance as S.H.I.E.L.D., an international peace keeping agency that will protect the world against… whoever. And with the above threat this team will need all their

With the Twilight Saga coming to a close soon this has been touted as its successor for the twenty-teens generation and is based on the first of a bestselling trilogy of books by SUZANNE COLLINS. In the future North America is divided into 12 districts, which every year have to each send a girl and a boy to the “Hunger Games” for the live televised “tributes” fights – and only one competitor will survive. Sixteen-year-old Katniss (JENNIFER LAWRENCE) volunteers to take the place of her younger sister (WILLOW SHIELDS) and has to face 23 rival tributes who have trained for this their whole lives including the sadistic Cato (ALEXANDER LUDWIG). It’s been described as The Running Man (1987 ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER movie) meets the X-Factor with a love triangle thrown in amongst all the blood for good measure. The release in Spain is four weeks behind the USA and the UK, where it has been hyped to the extreme, but lovers of the books will feel let down as many scenes have been cut so it can attract a younger audience. A good marketing ploy for when it is finally released on DVD as a director’s cut will no doubt be a top seller. Also stars JOSH HUTCHERSON, LIAM HEMSWORTH, ELIZABETH BANKS, LENNY KRAVITZ, WOODY HARRELSON and STANLEY TUCCI.

The Cold Light of Day

Worldwide release: 6 April After his family is kidnapped during a sailing trip in Spain, a young Wall Street trader (HENRY CAVILL) only has a few hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy involving a mysterious briefcase and find the connection between the family disappearance and the secrets of his father. Also stars BRUCE WILLIS and SIGOURNEY WEAVER.

Release dates: 13 April (Spain & UK); 18 May (USA) Epic action-adventure based on the popular board game which takes place at sea, in the sky and over land as our planet fights for its survival against a superior force. It is also attracting a lot of attention as music sex siren RIHANNA makes her movie debut as a weapons specialist. Also stars TAYLOR KITSCH, ALEXANDER SKARSGARD, LIAM NEESON and BROOKLYN DECKER.

TAKE ONE It looks like the clock has stopped on the movie version of 24 as there are scheduling issues around KIEFER SUTHERLAND, who is currently shooting and promoting the new Fox TV drama Touch. SYLVESTER STALLONE will kill off his war machine in Rambo: Last Stand… the plot will involve him going to Mexico and maybe not returning. In the meantime SYL is teaming up with ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER in The Tomb, playing a security expert who designs the most secure prison known. When he’s framed for a crime and sent to the said prison, he must outsmart himself to escape. ARNIE is an inmate who helps fellow prisoners stay in touch with their own humanity and JAMES CAVIEZEL (Jesus in the controversial MEL GIBSON movie The Passion of the Christ) stars as the prison warden. BILL MURRAY has finally made his mind up and will not return for Ghostbusters 3. DAN AYKROYD now has to decide if the film will materialise. SIGOURNEY WEAVER, HAROLD RAMIS, ANNIE POTTS and ERNIE HUDSON have all signed up to return plus ANNA FARIS (Brokeback Mountain) and ELIZA DUSHKU (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Filming starts this month on The Railway Man with COLIN FIRTH in a real life story as a World War II prisoner of war, and his quest to reconcile with one of his captors 30 years later. JEREMY IRVINE (War Horse) will play the younger version of the man during flashback scenes and NICOLE KIDMAN is the wife who helps him come to terms with the psychological damage he endured in a Japanese POW camp. Clapperboards also start snapping this month on the long-awaited remake of the 1947 comedy classic The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. BEN STILLER is a shy magazine photo editor who gets lost in a world of his own fantastical daydreams and finds himself on a real-life adventure when he goes searching for a missing negative. The venue recently increased its lineup for this summer, which opens on Tuesday 5 June featuring ED SHEERAN. Other artists in June include LABRINTH (12th) and KAISER CHIEFS (26th). In July: KASABIAN (10th), PROFESSOR GREEN (17th) and CHASE & STATUS (31st). In August: PAOLO NUTINI (7th), TINIE TEMPAH (14th) and EXAMPLE (28th). And finally in September: BLOC PARTY (4th), NEW ORDER (11th) and TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB closes the season on the 18th. Acts for 19 June, 3 and 24 July and 21 August are still to be announced. He originally became known in Europe at the age of 15 when he won the first of his five Grammys with Me Gustas Tal Como Eres (I Like You Just The Way You Are) featuring SHEENA EASTON in 1985. Then next month a fellow Puerto Rican and Latin Grammy winner, DADDY YANKEE, brings his brand of reggaeton to the Palma Arena on 5 May. What have we done to deserve this… back in Biblical times they had drought, famine and plagues of locusts and what do we get in the modern world? An S CLUB 7 reunion. It seems the septet want to follow in the footsteps of STEPS, who last year did a documentary series and recorded an album and are going on the road next month, including the PETE WATERMAN Hit Factory concert in Hyde Park on 11 July. Didn’t we suffer enough all those years ago with those Hit Factory songs? Somebody should hit WATERMAN for putting on this gig. JUSTIN BIEBER recently coughed up £6.8 million for a Hollywood Hill mansion, complete with a nursery – well, at least he’s got somewhere to throw his toys out of his pram now. Last month we informed you the original SUGARBABES line-up are in the studio and the current crop might be looking for pastures new – well, they may be making one more album before all going their separate ways.

GUNS N ROSES will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for their 1987 seminal album Appetite For Destruction but despite pleas they will not play live. The feud between AXL ROSE and SLASH seems to have mellowed after the latter wished the former a 50th birthday in February and they both agreed (the first time in years) that the Glee TV programme could not use their music for a special show. The feud of all feuds (except for the GALLAGHER brothers) between MICK JAGGER and KEITH RICHARDS over “todgergate” has finally been sorted but the ROLLING STONES will still not tour to celebrate their 50th anniversary as drummer CHARLIE WATTS says he’s not interested. Things looked good after they kissed and made up, plus original bass player BILL WYMAN, who left the band after “differences” in 1992, has made peace with the others. But CHARLIE said, “I’d say yes to a few gigs but not a tour.”

JOHN FRUSCIANTE has decided not to join the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS when they receive an award… “‘I’m just not really comfortable with that”. New Album round up Top of the pre-order charts for this month is Now That’s What I Call Music! 81 (released 2 April), which features top UK chart songs from the past five months including the recent number one Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye feat Kimbra; Paradise by Coldplay; Marry The Night by Lady Gaga; Sexy And I Know It by LMFAO and last year’s Christmas number one Wherever You Are by the Military Wives. This collection jumps around from dubstep to reggae to jungle and features three past singles in his 2010 debut, Let the Sun Shine, Earthquake (featuring TINIE TEMPAH) and the recent chart riser Last Time. Big on the hip hop pop scene NICKI MINAJ, who backed MADONNA at her Superbowl appearance, releases her second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, on the 2nd. She also didn’t do her reputation any harm debuting Roman Holiday at the 54th Grammy Awards in February and Starships was hovering around the top of the UK

singles charts last month. Other tracks causing ripples are Turn Me On (with DAVID GUETTA) and Va Va Voom. Other releases include the debut solo Blunderbuss from JACK WHITE on the 23rd; Out Of The Game by RUFUS WAINWRIGHT (23rd); Boys & Girls by the up and coming US rock band ALABAMA SHAKES (9th); The Power Within by game players favourite heavy metal band DRAGONFORCE (16th); and the re-release re-master of the month, The Visitors by ABBA (23rd).

The Beginnings Born on 15 July 1976 in Algermissen, Diane Kruger was raised in Germany with her younger brother Stefan, attending a Catholic school while also being sent to student exchange programs to improve her English. Her childhood dream was to become a ballerina and she had a successful audition at the Royal Ballet School in London, but injury ended those aspirations when she was 18 and she returned to Germany and a career in modelling (using her birth name, Diane Heidkrüger). A celebrity agent called and apparently her client, a big A-List star, is looking for a new stylist and she wants me, ME, to style her for an awards event in London. She’s coming out here in one week. The agent wouldn’t tell me who the star is. Apparently it’s all top secret because she has a stylist who won’t be happy she’s defected to me.

10 pm – It’s just dawned on me. All those years of styling old ladies at the Rotary club and getting accosted by that one client who wouldn’t believe that her size 16 bum didn’t look good in white Gucci jeans has been worth it because I’m styling a celebrity and not just any celebrity, an A-list star.

… Marco’s screech is so loud that his chihuahua, Fi Fi, jumps back into his Louis Vuitton doggy bag and growls at us both. “Darling, you’re going to be a famous stylist! You’ll be like that shrivelled old prune who dresses all the stars. She has her own TV Show now.” Marco’s my best friend. We meet once a week for lattes and a chat.

“Oh no,” I say, batting the comment aside, while secretly thinking the exact same thing. I’ve even thought about titles. “Amy Plays Dress Up” “Amybots” “Amy Clones” “Amy Works Wonders” “Amy: The transformer” (Might sound like an ‘80s toy but I like it.) Oh the possibilities…

It’s my time, my moment. That sounds like a song… but you get the message. This is the best thing that’s happened to my career. It’s even better than that time I got 50 per cent off Prada after persuading my favourite client to buy the entire shop. 11.59pm – Can’t sleep. Wondering who it is. What if it’s Angelina or Jennifer Lopez. Oh but she’s probably English. Perhaps Emma Watson or Kate Beckinsale? Why does it have to be top secret? I want to tell everyone but I’ll keep it to myself.

„I’m a stylist not a shop!“ 9am – So. Exciting. I’m at the studio waiting for her to arrive. I’ve checked the racks of designer clothes, shoes and accessories and they look fabulous. I called every designer I know and they sent through their best pieces. Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Prada and more are all here waiting to be tried on. As I stand there I spy the new Dolce. Purple Floral applique, tight fitting. It would look perfect on me. I could easily try it on. No, of course I won’t. I’m a professional. 10am – She’ll be here any minute. 11am – Still not here. Midday – Still not here. Celebrities have no concept of time. I once read that Madonna keeps everyone waiting. Ooooh, perhaps it’s Madonna. Maybe I could just try on the Dolce number. 12.10pm – It looks amazing. I must have it. I’ll call Dolce and pay for this over the phone or get them to send me a new one if Ms A-Lister decides to wear it. Oh dear. A spotty teenager bounds into the room shouting that the “client” is going to be here soon. Then she asks if I have the following: Bottled water from Fiji Red and yellow skittles Chocolate bunnies A vase of lilies and roses Some puppies At the last request I have to put my foot down as I think about sending back the clothes I’ve been loaned with doggy bites in them. I veto everything apart from the water and skittles and tell her that of course I do not have those things, that I’m a stylist not a shop, and that she must get them. As soon as she’s out of the room I unzip the dress and

let it fall to my ankles just as an entourage of 10 people burst into the studio. I freeze. They freeze. Hours pass… It seems like hours… I grab my dress and throw it on as a chubby girl with scraggly extensions who looks like she’s been tangoed sticks out her perfectly manicured hand. “Nice undies. I’m Lucy.” I pause, taking her in. Against the white backdrop she is literally glowing. “I’m Amy. Where is…” I’m about to say “the star” when a girl with a head piece steps forward. “Hi, we spoke on the phone. I’m Patricia. This is my client Lucy, Lucy Left (*).” I play for time by fiddling with a button, hoping that her face will come to me. “I’m sorry, what have you been in?” I ask after a minute.

“It will show off your… figure, accentuating your assets, and play down your flaws.” “Nah, it’s boring.” She flicks through the rails of pristine clothes as I think about the dry cleaning bill. Then she starts taking handfuls of dresses off the rack. I snatch everything away until she’s pulling dresses out of my hands. “No, this will be an unflattering shade,” I say as I yank another Prada number from her paws. “I wanna try it,” she says, yanking it back. Then her hand rests on the purple Dolce which I’ve lovingly placed back on the hanger. I really don’t want her to have the Dolce number. “That’s mine,” I say as I snatch it. “Why’s it here then luv?” She eyes me suspiciously. “I sometimes bring my own clothes to see if they’ll fit my clients but I can tell this is not for you.“ “It’s still got the labels in it.”

“Sorry luv, I fort you knew who I am. I’m a glamour model, personality, actress. Well, being in reality show or docusoap, as they like to call it, means I ave to act.” She lets out a cackle.

“It’s new,” I say meekly as she grabs it and strides to the changing room.

My jaw falls.

“Yuck,” I say. Everyone stares at me but Lucy is oblivious.

To say this is a disaster is putting it mildly. If you ever want to be taken seriously as a stylist you don’t style reality stars, animals or convicted criminals (unless they’re famous). I look over at the clothes. I have to send every item back to the fashion houses. Even the one she wears will be sent back. OMG. How will I explain the fake tan? I’m hoping she picks one of the lesser known brands. “I’ll be branna for the ceremony so I want something that shows off my colour,” she says in her Essex twang as she flicks through the clothes. I’m really starting to panic. Designers do not like their works of art displayed on second-rate Oompa Lumpas. They’ll be furious if they find out they’ve unwittingly lent their clothes to a Z-Lister. I have to do something. “I think this is more you,” I say as I pick up a nondescript black number and snatch the cream Lanvin from her hands.

She comes out and everyone oooohs and ahhhhs as I start to feel sick.

As she turns around I see her huge bum stretching the beautiful fabric to breaking point.

“Being in a reality show means I ‘ave to act” I’m avoiding all TVs, imagining myself styling the dancing dog on Britain’s Got Talent, when my phone rings.

6 March

“Oooooooooommmmmmmmmmgggggggggg. You’ve got to see her. She looks like a cross between a carrot and a turnip.” “I’m not watching it,” I tell him defiantly. “It’s the best car crash. Dress doesn’t look too bad, though. Oh and I like the shoes and bag you chose. She looks fabulous. Tacky, bright orange and awful but well styled.” I flick on the TV and there she is in all her glory. I have to say he’s right: the styling looks great, but the scraggly hair and luminous skin do not. I look on miserably. Is this the end of my career? (*Names have been changed)

“It looks well fit,” she says as she twirls. “It doesn’t fit properly across the bum,” I say bluntly. “My bum looks reem,” she says and everyone else agrees. What can I do? She’s won. I give her shoes and accessories and I let her go as I wonder about my ruined career.

Confessions of… Last year I gave birth to a baby boy. As a 30-year-old woman, married, with a successful career I ticked all the right boxes for bringing a child into the world. Twelve years ago, aged 18 and with no life boxes ticked at all, I fell pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. Becoming a mother for the second time caused me to reflect on my first pregnancy, the reactions to it and my feelings towards pregnancy and motherhood at two very different life stages.

„You‘ve ruined your life,“ mum said flatly, her eyes fixed on the frying pan. I stepped backward. An unexpected fist in the solar plexus. She turned to face me, paused, turned back to the precious pan. The conversation was over. Looking back I wonder what I expected her to say. How I felt she should respond to the news that her eldest daughter was pregnant. I’d been dating my boyfriend for two years when I found out. We were best friends but we were in no position to have a baby; I was at college, he worked in a supermarket. Despite this, from the moment I felt life growing inside me abortion was out of the question. Soon after I announced the pregnancy I moved in with him. My friends, who had been supportive, clearly saw this as the death knell to my life. With a baby at 18 I would remain uneducated, rely on benefits and disappear into an existence of nappies and more babies. I didn’t see myself the way others did and I had already applied to retake the A Levels I’d missed. Still I was concerned: where would we live? How could we afford to look after a baby? Was I making the biggest mistake of my life? As my stomach swelled, the stares increased. When I was seven months pregnant an elderly woman approached as I was out shopping and asked how old I was. When I told her she tutted, shook her head and

A secondtime mother walked away. I was left staring after her, tears welling up behind my eyes. In contrast, when I commuted into central London last year the only stares I got were from people about to offer me a seat on the Tube, and when strangers spoke to me they offered conspiratorial advice and kind words. Looking back to my first pregnancy I was naive. I had no experience of babies so I was not prepared for the onslaught of motherhood. The biggest shock was caring for a tiny person, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Now I know that motherhood can be isolating at any age. Staying at home day in, day out, with a small baby and no adult company is hard. The difference at 18 is that I didn’t know any other mums with babies, teen or otherwise. The friends I remained in touch with were, understandably, more interested in drinking, partying and dating than discussing dirty nappies over coffee and cake. At the health visitor’s suggestion, I attended a postnatal group so I could meet other mums. The first to arrive, I pulled my chair into the centre of the room and waited, cradling my daughter in my arms. A second mother appeared with her baby and sat apart from me. Other mothers arrived and together they created a circle of chairs to which I was on the outside. A few threw cursory smiles my way but none talked to me. At least ten years older, they clearly assumed they had nothing in common with a teenager. And yet all I could see was the one thing we did: our babies. I left early, feeling numb. I didn’t understand why I was being excluded.

In Person My son is 16 months old and, as if to compensate for the loneliness I felt as a young mother, I signed up to every class, coffee morning and activity I could find. Having a support network to share stories with and to call when I’m having a bad day is something that I cherish. So is it easier? Do I think I’m a better mother because I am older? In truth babies knock you sideways, however old you are. I think motherhood is just as tough second time around and I feel no wiser simply because I have more years behind me. The difference now is that people don’t openly tut and stare when my baby screams as we queue in Waitrose. As a woman in her thirties it is assumed I can handle my baby. Admittedly I was more prepared for the all-consuming nature of a new-born and I am also lucky to know that time with my baby boy is fleeting so I cherish it more than I ever could as an impatient teen. But I wonder if this is a privilege I have as a second-time mother rather than something that comes with age. I certainly feel more pressure now, or perhaps as a product of the “have it all” generation I put more pressure on myself. I feel I should be writing, keeping the house clean, cooking, getting fit, all while looking after a small baby. As for my husband? I’ve stayed with my best friend. When I told him we were having a second child he smiled. “It will be easier this time. We’re older and wiser.” Now, though, he has conceded it is no easier. “I’ve aged 10 years,” he complains as he smiles at our son.

“Staying at home with a small baby and no adult company is hard” As a teenage mum I felt I was on the outskirts of society, but rather than choosing to stay there I studied hard and got two degrees, carved out a career and got married. My daughter is now 13 and when people meet her they see a polite, well-spoken girl and they are impressed that I have done such a good job with her. Still, as if they never thought I would. So how did my mum react when I told her the news I was pregnant again? “I’m delighted,” she beamed. “Being a grandmother has brought me such joy over the years.”

Chef’s Selection This month we are invited into the kitchen of another of Mallorca’s top chefs, Argentinean-born Eduardo G Cribiloni, who studied in Hamburg (Germany) and is now in his seventh year as head chef at Restaurante Port Alt in Portals Nous. He reveals how to prepare one of the restaurant’s more exotic dishes, Kangaroo Saltimbocca.

Kangaroo Saltimbocca Ingredients: Fillet of kangaroo Pancetta (fatty bacon) Fresh sage leaves For the sauce: Tomato (peeled) Chilli Shallots Sugar Salt

Sweet wine or port Lime juice Side vegetables: Aubergine Red pepper Green pepper Potato Olive oil Coarse salt

Preparation: • Cut the kangaroo into thick strips of approximately 60 grams. Thinly slice the pancetta. Wrap the kangaroo in the pancetta with the sage and fix with a toothpick. • Peel the tomato and cube finely. Chop the shallots and the chilli. • Slice the aubergine, peppers and potato one-centimetre thick. With a little oil and at a high temperature, grill the vegetables (in a grilling pan if you have one – if not, a saucepan). Remove from the heat and put into an oven (180ª or gas mark 4) for 10 minutes. • In the same grilling pan on hot heat, mark the kangaroo on both sides and add to the vegetables in the oven for the last three minutes. • While the vegetables and kangaroo are grilling in the oven, use the same pan and fry the shallots with the chilli. Add the tomato and sugar – reduce and add the port/wine. • Serve the vegetables and garnish with olive oil and coarse salt. In the same plate place the kangaroo and finally add a dash of lime juice to the sauce and serve. • The kangaroo should be medium rare (overcooked, it is tough) and the sauce the consistency of a jam. Do not add salt to the kangaroo as the pancetta is salty. • The kangaroo can be substituted with ostrich if preferred.

Whatever is fresh and good quality produce – I love all types of food and adapt to seasonal changes too. Fresh herbs are very important to me, but I use a lot of garlic and ginger and experiment with spices. you also change your products related to where you are living and the type of client you are cooking for. In Germany I cooked with a lot of butter, but in Spain this has been replaced with olive oil. BEST KITCHEn AID? My knives! FAVOurITE FOOD TO COOK? A barbecue – it is in my blood, being Argentinean. I marinate different meats and fish with herbs and spices (using oriental flavours too). The smoking coals compliment the food. TELL US ABOUT yOUR RESTAURANT? Port Alt is a Mediterranean restaurant including Maghreb influences. Our concept is to use fresh ingredients, free of preservatives and colorants. we adjust our menus to what our ecological farmer has to offer and therefore change the menu seasonally. The atmosphere is relaxed and laidback – an oasis. HOw MuCH IS THE AVErAGE COST OF DInnEr FOr TwO, wITH wInE? Approximately €70 for two, but depends on the type of food and wine.

My original cookbook when I was studying is still my principal reference, but whenever I travel I buy cookbooks, as I love to read them and extract new ideas. My plans are to work hard throughout the season and my objective is that all my customers leave the restaurant with a smile. During the low season I would enjoy teaching small groups specific dishes. Now these wines are the queen of Spanish whites. Comparisons with the rhine wines come close. Albariño grapes were allegedly brought from Germany by the monks of Cluny. Strung along the northern border with Portugal, this Galician wine region follows the River Miño. Wet and cold in winter, with mild summers… perfect for making white wines, and some reds.

1 The Agro de Bazán bodega has always

been a reference for Galician wines made with the Albariño grape, and its production is among the top 10 of Rías Baixas. Winner of several awards, it makes dependable wines, around €13, widely available. Agrodebazansa.es

The Eidosola winery was founded by a small group of vineyard owners in 2003 and functions as a cooperative. It makes three wines, Eidosela, Arbastrum and Eidosola Selección Barrica, each just a little bit different from the typical Albariños of the Condado do Tea region and actually all the more interesting for it. Palacio de Fefiñanes was founded in 1904 and the winery is housed in a baronial palace dating back to 1647. Even before Albariño became a brand and when rías Baixas was still to be put on the map, this bodega made the only Galician wine that was drunk widely in the rest of Spain and called for by name. There are two wines, the Fefiñanes 2011 at €13 and the Fefiñanes III Año 2009 at €30. Buscastellvins.com

Bodegas La Val is one of the producers that got Rías Baixas off the ground during its unsure beginnings. One of its labels (there are four, priced between €8 and €18), La Val Crianza sobre Lías (€12) is a complex wine that has reinvigorated the debate within the region about whether it is better

Martin Códax is for many people the classical Rías Baixas wine, probably because it can be found in most restaurants. A cooperative from 1985, the wines are all pure Albariño and it has a reputation for producing consistently good wines ranging from €10 for the standard wine up to €17 for the barrel-aged Organistrum. Arousana is the largest cooperative in the area (18,000 members), and is run by a young team. The whole operation has been designed to be as modernistic as possible, starting with the name of the flagship wine, Paco & Lola (Albariño), with its polka dotthemed labels. The Pazo Baión bodega is a 15th century manor house where they have been making excellent wines for several decades. These are perfect examples of the new style “Atlantic” Albariños, and sell well in the uS where the export market is three times bigger than any other country. Pazo Señorans, apart from being one of the most picturesque bodegas in the region, makes Alabariño wine as good as anyone. It is a family-run bodega and one of the few that distils its own orujo (grape alcohol) in-house. Owner Mari Sol Bueno presided over the region’s regulatory body for many years and is one of the most powerful ladies in the area. 11 Bodega Señorío de rubios is a small

operation founded by 57 farmers in 2003. That’s a lot of backed-up experience and the wines prove it. Unusually it has a range of five reds, unique in the area, although the oenologist still has his work cut out to get them into line. Very fairly priced with the whites starting at €7 and the reds at €5. Enotecum.es

Bodegas Valdamor, owned by a Madrid restaurateur with Galician roots, Manuel Dominguez, has proved it can make the best of the typical Albariños from the Salnés Valley. The wines range from €5.50 for the Namorío, up to €18.,30 for the oak-aged Albariño. The standard Valdamor is €11.50. If you try the Crema de Orujo on ice, at around €8 a bottle, you will wonder why people Baileys. Palmersons.com

Initially you will notice a strange tingling sensation as each electric impulse activates its target muscle. But this soon becomes a familiar part of an EMS workout. You will notice you are working to a far higher capacity, minus the strain on ligaments, joints or bones – thus greatly reducing any chance of injury. Six finalists gathered with their friends and supporters to compete in the grand final of the popular singing competition The M Factor. The competition, which had been running for the previous six weeks, drew to a spectacular close with a hard-fought battle between the singers. The event was hosted by DJ Jon White and presented by singer Nicky Stixx. About 200 people attended to show support to their favourite performer. The six singers, Sylvia, Steve Reye, Steve McCann, Margaret, Alejandro and Jo, all sang three songs: a pop song, a show tune and their own choice. Then the audience voted for their choice and the two singers with the most votes went through to a sing off. This saw Steve Reye and Steve McCann going head to head, with McCann eventually winning the majority of the audience votes and being presented with the €1,000 cash prize. Terracotta Army Lands on Mallorca

Over one million visitors around Europe have already seen this enthralling exhibition… now the Terracotta Army (also known as “Terracotta Warriors and Horses”), a collection of sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, will go on show on Palma. Now, after a major re-modelling project, Port Adriano is due to re-open with the addition of new mooring berths for yachts of up to 60 metres, the enlarging of the dry dock and a state-of-the-art commercial area designed by Philippe Starck – putting it well and truly at the forefront of international ports for mega-yachts. One of the world’s leading designers, Starck visited the project last summer to check progress on his innovative vision for Port Adriano. His aim as designer was “to place the human and the sea in the centre of the project”, including overall town planning, architectural design and artistic direction of public spaces as well as special creations such as mooring poles. Starck was commissioned on the basis that his designs “offer the talent, sobriety and beauty that Port Adriano wants for its clients”. He was responsible for the design of the new commercial area and the decoration of the communal areas.

Located in a privileged setting on the south-west edge of the Bay of Palma, in Calvià municipality just half an hour from Palma international airport, Port Adriano has optimal communications with the Mediterranean’s other main marinas, as well as further afield. The expansion project was undertaken with respect for and a solid commitment to the environment and seabed. A new dyke runs parallel to the current one, meaning the work has not taken up any additional metres of coastline, and the new-look port features the most advanced environmental protection system for mega-yachts. Port Adriano offers clients a wide and varied range of services “with the aim of solving their needs and, above all, to make their stay in our port a unique experience”. These include: boat sales, charter, services, storage, maintenance and repairs; mooring rental and sales; nautical school and diving centre; restaurants, bars and lounges; and fashion and accessories boutiques.

The Starck-designed commercial shopping extends over 4,000 square metres, with 40 business premises and over 600 parking places to complement the port’s nautical facilities. To ensure “the correct interaction between the shopping area and the port zone”, the operating company manages all the premises on a leasehold basis, thus maintaining strict control over the quality of services provided. The official inauguration of the new amenities is scheduled for 26 April, while other special events being held in conjunction with the re-opening include the invitation-only Superyacht Days from 28 to 30 April.
