SYNOPSIS A consumer has really become a King at the premises of a business house as he is protected well by the new CP Act 2019.So business houses have to be more conscious on the updated system. Features of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 E-commerce, multilevel marketing, direct marketing, electronic service provider, product liability, un fare trade and un fare contract are some of the added definitions, a business house need to take cognizance of. Similarly consumers have been given added protection and extended rights like filing jurisdiction, electronic filing, pecuniary jurisdiction, video conferencing, mediation process and above all one independent regulator - Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA). How the consumers are protected and benefitted? © Consumers can file cases electronically- e-filing from the place where they reside © They need not engage a lawyer and can file cases up to 1 crore at the district level © No fee for cases up to 5 lakhs and mediation process at district, state, national level. © Mediation facilitates for both business and consumers to avoid legal battles
