Operational Excellence Towards Business Excellence - Group B & C

Page 1

OVERVIEW Operational excellence can simply be described as a philosophy that embraces problem-solving and leadership as the key to continuous improvement. However, while continuous improvement is important, it is not enough on its own. As the organization continues to refine its process, product, or service, it needs a way to continue to grow. This is where operational excellence comes in. Ultimately, operational excellence is not just about reducing costs or increasing productivity in the workplace. It is about creating the company culture that will allow you to produce valuable products and services for your customers and achieve long-term sustainable growth. Operational excellence when understood and deployed well must lead to Business Excellence, because by focussing on Effectiveness and Efficiency, the twin goals of Customer Orientation (Effectiveness) with sustainable Organisational Health (Efficiency) is accomplished in a balanced manner. The formulation of operational strategy and the successful implementation thereof requires a holistic understanding of the entire value chain of manufacturing industry over the entire product life cycle, i.e Innovation to Customer Support, rather than functional silos which is the bane of the industrial world for many decades. The metrics of “success” has both external (Customer) and internal (Organisation) implications whether it is innovative products/services, quality improvements, cost optimisation, leadtime improvements or customised manufacturing approaches. The Operational Excellence Course of MMA is designed for manufacturing industry leaders and practitioners wishing to transform their organisations through strategy and culture, and through the application of a bouquet of operational excellence approaches, methodologies, processes and tools, that create value for your customer. As you travel on your value generation journey, you will wish to select the appropriate approach, methodologies and tools – based on your organisation's current situation, future strategies and goals, resource availability and limitations, as well as urgency and schedule needs – that will provide immediate value.
