Gold Coast Cultural Precinct
The Gold Coast is continually developing as one of Australia's most popular tourist destinations. Its pride lies in its beautiful beaches, world-heritage hinterlands and entertainment attractions. However, due to its urban layout the city lacks the qualities of a pedestrian environment. Therefore, together with ongoing refurbishment of the public transport system, the Gold Coast City Council decided to hold the 'Cultural Precinct Design Competition' in 2013 in attempt to gravitate and express a new cultural platform for the Gold Coast's identity. Responding to this situation, my proposal was to establish an 'urban forest' as the heart of the city which expresses the relaxing lifestyle prevalent within the Gold Coast.

Common Ground Apartment
The site was located in multicultural West End, where indigenous Australians and immigrant have cohabited for a long period of time. These people bring diverse values to the area, creating a unique vibrant cultural atmosphere. However, ongoing gentrification and urbanization is changing the urban profile. Responding to historical context and
St Mary’ s
changes, my intention was to define 'soft edge' and 'backyard' zones in my proposal to create a place where people can enjoy both informal public life and private time.

Bus Stop on the campus
Inspired by the lively exuberance exhibited by cicadas every summer on the campus of University of Tsukuba, I created a bus stop that captures their kinetic beauty. While at the same time, I made reference to the gateway at the entrance to a Shinto Shrine. Repetition of form combined with particles of light allow people to focus their minds in passing this node between the university and the outside.
