“Our philosophy is, as the Grand Hotel/Railway Hotel business grows and succeeds, it is anticipated that other community members and existing business owners might be inspired to start a new business of their own or enhance their existing business.
“When those businesses grow, they generate competition and the need for innovation.
The result is a diverse set of local businesses that are all striving to meet the community's needs in unique ways,” he said.
The reduction of the number of operating hotels is not expected to have a negative impact on the community.
Mr Chapman said that our business research provided insight in terms of the impact Hotels has on community cohesion.
“Overall, we found that Hotels had a positive, statistically significant impact on social engagement and involvement among residents living in the regional countryside.
‘We also understand the positive effect will increase due to our hotels becoming increasingly important as other essential services and community shops have closed.
“In addition, the Hotel provides sponsorships to local sporting teams, hosting local events and is one of the largest employers of the community. We believe that two Hotels will be sufficient,” he said.
A cease-trading date for the Railway Hotel has not been determined.
“There will be definite changes, and accommodation will be available at the completion of settlement,” he said.
For local punters, there will still be a community TAB in the town.
“We are in the process of working closely with Tabcorp to ensure the community will always have access to the TAB facilities. Let us be clear, TAB is earmark for installation at the Grand Hotel, ensuring the Grand Hotel becomes a one stop shop for the
needs of our community.
The Cook-Beaumont group are currently developing business strategies and believe the new look “Railway Hotel” will re-open in stages.
Mr Chapman said community impact went beyond mere corporate social responsibility.
“It’s about our Hotels actively engaging in initiatives that directly benefit the Mount Morgan community.
“Our approach will recognize the well-being of our core business is intrinsically linked to the well-being of our residents and community.
“We believe in seeing our small community thrive, the Grand Hotel and soon to be Railway Hotel will see a corresponding uplift in our sustainability and reputation.
“Likewise, as both hotels thrive, we can give back more to the community, creating a feedback loop that benefits everyone involved.
“No-one will be inconvenienced during the acquisition, Patrons and our guests truly matter, therefore, we encourage you to approach me and I will be happy to listen and answer any of your questions.
“We understand, this is a sensitive matter and a massive change for our community, please support us during this time and I am positive you will enjoy the benefits this change will bring,” he said.

FIRE PREPAREDNESS WORKSHOPS
A dedicated group of 18 Mount Morgan landholders braved the heat on Saturday 9 November, attending an educational bushfire preparedness workshop held recently in Mount Morgan.
Facilitated by Hannah Etchells, fire ecologist at Healthy Land and Water said the landholders engaged in an insightful, lively, and timely discussion on bushfires, fire ecology and the importance of fire preparedness.
“It’s encouraging to see so many landholders from the community get together to learn about recovery, resilience and preparedness ahead of the bushfire season,” Etchells said.
Workshop participants found the session valuable with positive feedback around the informative interactive sessions, tangible actions and planning to prepare for the worst with one attendee stating it was “reassuring to hear from local authorities and know how much knowledge and professionalism we have to rely on in our community”.
The event was delivered in collaboration with Rockhampton Regional Council and supported by the Queensland Fire & Biodiversity Consortium, through funding from the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program.
