National Simultaneous Storytime
Advertisement
This year, National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is on Wednesday, 24 May. NSS is a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate reading, storytelling, and Australian literature. The book chosen for this year’s event is the Speedy Sloth written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie. It’s a funny and inspiring story about following your dreams, and what it really means to be a winner! Come along to your local library at 11:00am for a reading of the Speedy Sloth, followed by some fun craft activities.
If you can’t make it to a library event there are still ways to be involved. You can borrow the Speedy Sloth from your library (after the event date) and have your own private Storytime or you can join thousands of other people from around Australia (and the world) listening to the story online via the ALIA website – https://www.alia. org.au/Web/Web/Events/NSS/ ALIA-National-SimultaneousStorytime-2023.aspx

Sherlock Holmes Day
Did you know that 22 May is Sherlock Holmes Day? The Sherlock Holmes stories –comprising four novels and fiftysix short stories - were written between 1887 and 1927 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. With so many stories, movies, series, and games inspired by the character, there are many ways to celebrate Sherlock Holmes Day. Come to the library and pick out a Sherlock Holmes book, audiobook, or movie to take home and enjoy, or be a detective with our Scavenger Hunts or Trivia booklets! Sherlock Holmes stories are also available through BorrowBox, Libby and Beamafilm. Here are a couple of our more unusual crossover Sherlock Holmes book titles: Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein by David Whitehead (Large Print Fiction) - Holmes and Watson travel to Germany following the murder of a gravedigger.
Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula by Christian Klaver - a Transylvanian nobleman named Count Dracula seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes after his wife is kidnapped.
Rockhampton Regional Libraries are located in Mount Morgan, Gracemere, South Rockhampton, and North Rockhampton. It is free to become a library member. For more information, please call the Mount Morgan Library on 4936 8169 or the Rockhampton Regional Library Administration Office on 4936 8043.

The boys came out strong as Zayveon led the boys for the first half making a few threes and fastbreaks to keep the team up.
Travis and Kyran kept the Emmaus boys on their toes with a few steals and lockdown defence on their side of the court.
Oatesy had a riveting afternoon stirring the boys up and ensuring the game did not get too far away from them.
In the second half, the boys slowed down and started scoring fewer points letting the Emmaus boys get ahead by ten points, but overall kept their heart in the game.
Overall, the boys had a great game and played the best they could. Final score was 54-44 Emmaus total.
