Dog Food For Breakfast
DOG FOOD FOR BREAKFAST
Written by: Donna Bianco Campo for Lily Rae Campo
For Joseph who is my hero As you dedicate your life to your children always remember that even though you guide them
through life, sometimes they will
learn the hard way. Challenge and lessons in life shaped you into the
man you are, with your mom right beside you.
You didn’t always listen but you always learned.
Love you forever, Mom
Joe was happy to be going into the first grade. He made a lot of friends in kindergarten and now he’s going to a big school!
Joe was excited to see that all his friends were in his class. His teacher announced that they were all going to learn how to read.
She gave the children their first reading homework. His teacher put all of the words Joe had to learn in his book.
When Joe came home from school his mother was waiting for him so that she can hear all about his first day of school. Joseph told his mother that all of his friends were in his class and that his teacher said they were going to learn how to read.
Joe’s mom said he could have a snack before his homework. While Joe was having his snack his favorite television show had started so he didn’t want to learn his reading words. He only wanted to watch TV and refused to do his homework.
The next day his teacher gave him more words to learn and a book to read. Joe just wanted to watch tv.
Joe’s mom took him shopping for new shirts and he got to pick out whatever he wanted. Joe saw a red and black shirt that he thought was his favorite basketball team. His mom bought him the shirt and he wore it to school. Joe was excited to show his friends that he was wearing his new Bulls shirt. His friends all laughed at him. Joe’s shirt didn’t say The Bulls, it said Barbie!
Joe was invited to a birthday party with all his friends. Joe had to go to the bathroom and wasn’t sure which door was the boys room so he guessed. He felt very bad because all of his friends at the party knew he had gone into the girls room and they were all laughing at him.
All the kids in his class were reading except for Joe. He would say that he couldn’t do it. When it came time for Joe to do his reading all he did was cry. Joe’s mom was very upset and she had a great idea to teach him a lesson.
His mom decided to take Joe to the supermarket. While they were shopping she asked him to choose his own cereal. He picked Chocolate Krispies with a big dog prize on the box.
The next morning when it was time for breakfast, Joe opened the box and discovered that he had picked out a box of dog food! He thought the prize on the box was a dog toy! Joe didn’t want to eat dog food for breakfast.
Joe realized how important reading was. He tried his hardest and reading was easier than he thought.
Joe was proud of himself because when he went to the supermarket with his mom, he picked Fruit Loops cereal with an action figure prize inside the box instead of dog food.
