In week five of summer camp, the children traveled to Oz, sailed the high seas, and raced to home plate.

In Drama Camp, the Summer Camp Players worked out problems and solved conflicts as the characters of Oz. The production crew learned stagecraft and how to direct.

In Beginner Camp the pirates made pirate hats and treasure maps. The pirates in the Preschool and Kindergarten Camp had sack race. Both classes went on a treasure hunt.

In Sports Camp, the athletes practiced pitching and batting. They played a variety of games and participated in the daily homerun derby.

Drama and Production Crew Ms. Sylvia, Mr. Richard, Ms. Susan For the first week of drama camp, the Summer Camp Players performed “Munchkin Mediation: Conflict Resolution in Oz - The Musical.” The characters, including favorites like the Wizard and Toto, solved problems through song. They learned how to control anger, how to include others, and how to listen to each other. In just one week, the actors memorized their lines, their cues, the songs, and the choreography. On Thursday, the group performed for Ms. Liz‟s Preschool and Kindergarten camp and for Coach Cam‟s sports camp. Then, on Friday, the main show was attended by parents. The Production Crew designed the set, made the costumes, and assisted Ms. Sylvia.

Beginners, Preschool, and Kindergarten

Ahoy Mates! The beginning of the week may have been stormy outside, but inside the children enjoyed many pirate activities. The activities included: making Little Critter Pirates, making pirate treasure maps by dipping them in tea, doing a pirate maze, and learning some pirate words. They also enjoyed making a special pirate snack. The children had the chance to dress up as pirates on Ms. Liz Thursday. On Friday the children went on a treasure hunt. They loved using their treasure maps to find the treasure.

There’s No Crying In Baseball There was definitely No Crying in Baseball this week! Campers rocked the outdoor sessions with a series of wiffle ball games and a daily home run derby. The week was specifically aligned to go with the Major League Baseball All-Star break and Home Run Derby.

Each student learned about the derby and the contestants, and made predictions for the winner. There were even baseball crafts. They finished the week by playing “barefoot bathing suit baseball.” Baseball continues to be summer‟s greatest game.

This week in the beginner class, the little swashbucklers made their own treasure maps and then got to search for hidden treasure. During the treasure hunt they discovered a treasure chest filled with sparkling jewels. On Thursday, the children had a chance to dress up like pirates. Shiver Me Timbers!
