Greeting Sorors! I am so excited about 2018 and all that it has to offer us as a chapter, state, region, and Sorority. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to serving our community and supporting our national initiatives. As I enter into the last few months of this presidency, I am very reflective of the goals of this administration and will continue to implement them with excellence. We have become a stronger chapter due to the hard work of the membership. I am forever thankful and grateful that you have made Epsilon Rho Zeta your home and chosen to live and breathe our principles. As this is the “Year of Sisterhood, I want us to continue to focus on strengthen our bond within our sisterhood. Remember to create your sisterhood circles, attend outings (Zeta or otherwise), and share moments. I appreciate and love each one of you! Sisterly,

We kicked off the first quarter of the 2017-18 sorority year with a bang! In June, we closed out the year with a chapter retreat. Sorors participated in group activities and bonding exercises. Collectively, new ideas were discussed to implement for the 2017-18 year. In July, we continued to bond as we enjoyed another successful game night hosted by Soror Abenlemah Jones. The chapter Basileus & First-Anti conducted a refresher course titled “EPZ 101” for Sorors who were interested in staying “in the know” about Zeta and the chapter. In August, we held a chapter discussion for all financial and MIP certified members at the Green Turtle. During this meeting, membership consideration, for 2017, was discussed. Soon after this meeting, we conducted interviews for interest who were seeking membership into our organization. Also, our Executive Board met to discuss the business of Zeta as they prepared for the 2017-18 sorority year. In September, we officially resumed with our regularly schedule chapter meetings that are held primarily at Troop 2. Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Job 5:15-20 15 He rescues the poor from the cutting words of the strong, and rescues them from the clutches of the powerful. 16 And so at last the poor have hope, and the snapping jaws of the wicked are shut.

17 “But consider the joy of those corrected by God! Do not despise the discipline of the Almighty when you sin. 18 For though he wounds, he also bandages. He strikes, but his hands also heal. 19 From six disasters he will rescue you; even in the seventh, he will keep you from evil. “Our prayers and thoughts are with Sorors who have experienced difficulties during the first quarter of the sorority year.”

The Atlantic Region held our 57th Leadership Conference, in Atlantic City, from October 12-14, 2017. We want to congratulate the following Sorors: Janice M.T Johnson and her daughter Christine Johnson, a former Amicette & Archonette; and Ivy Green-Blue and her daughter LaTrelle Blue, a former Archonette & Debutante, as being the First Charter Members of the Atlantic Region Legacy Club 2017. Both, Soror Blue (Soror Jorelle Green) & Soror Johnson (Soror Vanetta Turner) were inducted with their sisters during the last Boule. Let the ZETA light continue to illuminate. Also, Madam President presented a workshop titled “90 Minute Chapter Meeting or Less.” It was well attended. “The process of selecting the endorsement of the Atlantic Region candidate for International Grand Basileus very intense. There were adjustments to the by -laws that enabled us to choose a candidate.”- Reflections from Soror Blue

Epsilon Rho Zeta is committed to advancing the mission of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The emphasis on service has helped to relight and reenergize the Zeta light for many Sorors. Zudos to Soror Mack-Williams for holding true to the 3 R’s: Recruitment, Reclamation, and Retention. Our senior Sorors are our precious Doves. Our Doves are the backbone of not only our chapter, but our sorority. We all hope and dream to become as knowledgeable as they are in Zeta. They keep us motivated, inspired and full of life. Our Doves share their feelings, thoughts, and memories of their journey to Zeta. As they share their stories about Zeta, we hope they are proud of the progress we have made as an organization and a chapter. Our R.O.S.S. Committee has done a wonderful job ensuring that our Doves are taken care of and feel loved. If you wish to do something special for our Doves, please contact Soror Jayme Govens.

We love our Doves! Soror Addie Cole, Soror Virginia B. Coleman, Soror Josephine Reynolds, Soror Albertha Roberts, Soror Will Ella Jackson, Soror Carolyn Jackson, Soror Joyce King, and Soror Grace Reeves-Garrett.

Often times, as women, we forget to take care of ourselves. During the month of October, we worked to increase awareness about health issues and also engaged in many service events. Research has shown us that women of color are affected by cancer, primarily breast cancer, more than other races. We need to continue to educate ourselves through early detection (Mammograms are a must!) and raising awareness and funds for events such as Making Strides & Every Woman Matters. We will continue to collaborate and support such noteworthy and important service projects.

We also spent numerous hours involved in service events such as Adopt-A-Highway, Family Math Night (which was held at our sponsoring elementary school Thomas Edison), donations of non-perishable items (for the Thanksgiving basket sponsored NPHC,) and Wreaths Across America. We encourage all Sorors to continue tracking their service hours as we prepare for Centennial in 2020. Remember our goal is 20 million hours of service by 2020! In the future, Epsilon Rho Zeta will be partnering with Lambda Delta Sigma for a voter registration drive. Stay tuned for more details!

Thank you to our co-chairs, Sorors Tracye Waters and Abby Jones, who planned and had a well-attended open house at the Bear Library. Some of the former members shared their experiences with the new inductees. Our youth have been very busy learning and growing into young women. Outside of their monthly meetings, the youth have done the following: submitted a blue & white ornament to adorn the national tree, sang at our elder care facility, and collaborated with our debutantes. Thank you to the youth advisors for their dedication and hard work! Activities: Archonettes had a slumber party, at the beginning of the year, and bonded with each other into the late hours in the morning. Our Debutantes participated in many workshops and events such as: the Boscov’s Cosmetic and Career Clothing Workshop, the Mother Daughter Tea kickoff, UNICEF gift-wrapping for the holidays, mentor/mentee holiday luncheon, and supported the Christmas Cookies with Santa event where they dressed as elves. The Amicettes teamed up with the Archonettes for a cupcake decorating event. Our Pearlettes helped us to sing at Millcroft and participated in the Cookies with Santa event.

This January we celebrated 98 years of existence as an organization. As we reflect upon this momentous occasion and look forward to Centennial, let’s remember our oath. We took an oath to uphold our principles and live our lives as such. Our sorority has withstood many trials and tribulation, and; yet we stand. Our sisterhood continues to grow and we must ensure that we keep our Zeta light shining. Founded in 1920 and stronger than ever!

We would like to welcome Baby Langston James Mitchell who made his grand entrance on November 7, 2017. Congratulations Soror Loren Holland on your new baby!

Congratulations to Soror Curi Q Calderon- & Greg Lacy. May your joining bring you both more joy than you can imagine. May the love you share today grow stronger as you grow old together.

Soror Abenlenmah and Omar Jones are patiently waiting for the arrival of their 1st bundle of joy. The coolest part about being parents is catching a glimpse of yourself in your little one! Congratulations and Happy Parenting!
