Do You Have Trouble Understanding g Voices?
It could be hearing loss...or it may just be wax buildup. There’s a simple way to find out...
FREE Video Otoscopy and Ear Canal Inspection. OFFER Valid June 23rd - 27th ONLY!
Your ears are actually self-cleaning! Using a cotton swab to clean your ear pushes wax deeper into the ear canal and can create a blockage. Wax blockage is one of the most common causes of hearing loss. If you touch the ear drum with a cotton swab, you press on the little bones of hearing underneath — the hammer, the anvil and the stirrup. Pressing on those bones sends shock waves into the inner ear and can cause problems with your hearing and balance. The worst-case scenario? If you put a cotton swab into your ear you could puncture your eardrum and may require surgery to fix it. It can even make you lose your hearing in your ear forever. More commonly, the cotton swab is exactly the size of your ear canal, so when you put it in your ear, you push the wax in deeper and it gets stuck. The wax just needs to be removed. We have an easy and painless way to check your ears for wax buildup. We’ll use a miniaturized camera to do a complete inspection of your ear canal and ear drum to see if there’s a wax problem. Please call today to make an appointment for your FREE Ear Canal Inspection!

Bent Creek Winery The rolling hills of southeast Livermore is the picturesque site for the Bent Creek Winery, creating award-winning wines since 2002. “The goal when people come to our tasting room is to make it their best tasting room experience that day, that month or that year,” says Pat Heineman who owns the winery with her husband Tom and friends Carol and Rich Howell. Add a beautiful setting, fantastic staff that is knowledgeable about wines, a personal greeting by one of them, and the warm and friendly atmosphere, and you have the best in this category all at the end of a ¼-mile driveway.
Pat and Tom purchased the 12-acre property adjacent to some of Wente’s vineyards and took grape growing classes through UC Davis extension before planting their first Syrah grapes in 1997. They sold their grapes to Concannon Winery for the first five years before the Howells joined them and they all decided to embark on their second careers, winemaking , which sent them back to UC Davis for winemaking classes. Bent Creek Winery has about 6,000 vines of Petit Syrah, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Franc grapes on eight acres and annually produces about 3,000 cases of award-winning wines. Pat calls Rich “the brains” behind the science of the winemaking, but all four of them take an active role in the blending of the wines before they are bottled. Come for a taste and leave with a bottle of your own.

French Restaurant
La Note Restaurant Provencal Dorothee Mitrani-Bell opened this authentic Provencal restaurant in a charming 1875 building in the heart of Berkeley. A graduate of UC Berkeley’s environment design program, MitraniBell also won an award in excellence in 1998 for “outstanding storefront improvements” and the charming rehabilitation of the classic building. Known for its traditional breakfast and lunch bistro fare, La Note also serves rustic Provencal dinners inside or on the patio. The menus are extensive and in French with English translation. The countrysideinspired breakfast include a delicious assortment of eggs (les oeufs) or omelets with many special additions like Ementhal and goat cheese, spicy lamb sausage, or ratatouille. The challenge will be deciding among the les pancakes or le pain perdu (French toast). Do we add crème fraiche, lemon and gingerbread, homemade raspberry and blueberry compote or indulge on cinnamon brioche instead of semolina French bread. Dinner selections are equally enticing with a selection of open-faced Provencal sandwiches on warm rustic French rolls, pastas (lemon ricotta ravioli), fish (bouillabaisse) and chicken and meat. Happy Hour; Mexican Restaurant
La Tapatia Voted best happy hour and best Mexican restaurant for the second year in a row, La Tapatia continues to serve its authentic Jalisco cuisine to its devoted customers while being serenaded by Mariachi musicians every Friday and Sunday nights. Served indoors or on the patio, lunch and dinner features their famous sizzling fajitas, enchiladas verde and a wide selection of seafood. Banquet rooms can seat up to 200, and take out and catering is available. Maybe it’s the 32-ounce monster margarita made with 100 percent agave that makes the happy hour so popular. Or it could be that they offer 100 different tequilas. Either way come and indulge during the “happy hour” from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Speciality Cocktail
Barrel Aged Restaurant and Cocktail Bar No pre-made juices or cocktail mixes here, just an extensive menu of hand-crafted classic cocktails Owner Ashley Afferino opened Barrel Aged in July 2012 and serves fresh California cuisine for lunch, dinner and brunch using locally sourced ingredients. But the list of cocktails is just as long as the food menu. There is even a “Brunch Cocktail” menu featuring “bubbly” mimosas; “bloody” marias; “egg-based” ramos gin fizzes; or “fresh squeezed juice” treats like a pomegranate daiquiri. So how do you choose from a modern classic like Remember the Maine (rye whiskey, cherry heering and orange bitters) or a Mint Smash (bourbon, mint and lemon bitters)? Does an “older fashioned” cocktail sound enticing like a Blood and Sand (scotch, fresh orange, cherry heering and vermouth) or a Rob Roy (scotch, vermouth, maraschino and bitters)? Maybe a farm fresh cocktail is more your style like a ginger margarita (blanco tequila, lime, fresh ginger and agave) or a One-Eyed Horseman (spiced run, mint, lemon and cardamom). Decisions, decisions. Barrel Aged Restaurant and Cocktail Bar 823 Main St., Martinez 925-228-7795 www.barrelagedbar.com.

Tahoe Joe’s Located near the Sunvalley Mall in Pleasant Hill, Tahoe Joe’s Famous Steakhouse open in 2001 and is the only Bay Area location for this chain of nine restaurants. The steakhouse is known for its Tahoeinspired mountain lodge with exposed pine log beams, hand painted teepee lamps, stone pillars and outdoor patios. Inside is an open fireplace, full bar, five flat screen televisions and lots of room for large parties. Don’t forget the great food. Steaks are king at Tahoe Joe’s. They are USDA, Midwest corn fed beef, cut thick and charbroiled over a hard wood fire. Favorites include the slow roasted Joe’s Steak, the Railroad Camp Shrimp and homemade Nevada Cheesecake. The Steakhouse was designed around the noted chef Tahoe Joe, known in the lake Tahoe region during the mining days of the 1870s. They use old-fashioned cooking techniques such as wood fire grilling and slow roasting. Its first location was in West Fresno in 1996 and grew throughout the Central Valley where they continue the tradition of Tahoe Joe’s way: Serve “quality food” with “enlightened hospitality” and be “a place where people want to be.”

The 28,000 square-foot museum in Larkey Park opened in 1993, but the concept of a wildlife museum to teach children about nature began back in the early 1950s by Alexander Lindsay. The museum became the first wildlife rehabilitation program in the United States in 1970 as people brought injured or orphaned wild animals to the museum. Today about 600 volunteers work at the museum in education, wildlife care, museum operations and fundraising and outreach. More than 100,000 visitors visit annually including 40,000 school children. Interactive exhibits include a behind-the-scene look at the hospital as the staff performs medical exams and treats injured or sick animals. Livermore Valley Wines, Beer and Cocktails
Livermore’s Downtown is in Livermore Valley Wine Country, which boasts over 50 awardwinning wineries. The best of the Valley is showcased throughout our restaurants. There is great pride in the history of our wineries themselves dating back to the 1840’s and it is not unusual to see the current generation of these wine making families hanging out in Downtown sipping one of their creations.
Livermore is Beer Country too. Tap Rooms and Alehouses offer great selections of craft brews from the San Francisco Bay Area and our own Livermore Valley local breweries, all providing premium beer quality that stands up tall next to the premium wines of the Valley. Sometimes the evening calls for a cocktail. Our Livermore bartenders are true mixology masters. Each restaurant and bar has their specialty cocktail list and just when you think you have seen it all, a new creation arrives that has you finding a new favorite!
We love our beautiful weather and outdoor adventures in the Livermore Valley. Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) offers hiking trails, BMX, skateboard, bicycle, and dog parks. Del Valle Regional Park offers beautiful scenery with a lake where you can visit for a couple hours being close to town, plan a day trip or even camp. The options at Del Valle are endless. You can swim, windsurf, boat, fish, hike, horseback ride or picnic… just to name a few! All within minutes of each other and perfect for the nature enthusiast!
Looking for something a bit more adventurous, or not? Try our indoor kart racing track, new ice skating rink, or join us for the world’s fastest rodeo. Or not?... Relax by the pool with a spa day and a breathtaking view. Who is your Lizzie –
We are so proud and honored that our Downtown’s Lizzie Fountain won for Best Landmark in the East Bay. This fun and beautiful, spray ground fountain, is definitely a popular spot on our hot summer days and summer nights! But… there is a bit of a local historian debate around who Lizzie was.
1. Was she our City’s founder, William Mendenhall’s daughter, Elizabeth Mendenhall ?
OR
2. Was she Lizzie Oliver, Downtown eccentric, porch preaching resident that terrorized anyone who came to her front porch on their way into town?
You decide! Who is your Lizzie? Follow us on Facebook, Livermore Downtown. We will be launching our “Choose your Lizzie” contest of fun in July! Lots of fun… lots of prizes!

Gass, who runs the store with a lot of help from her husband, Virgil, says the store specializes is stocking home décor and personal gifts, garden and home accents, Brighton purses and jewelry, greeting cards and special gifts for newborns plus a few more goodies here and there. The gift items are current, and trendy (but still traditional), are well priced for quality and are in wide range of prices, says Gass and this sets Clover Creek Gifts apart from other boutiques. Gass is also very involved in the community and is on the Chamber of Commerce board of directors, a member of the convention and visitors bureau and has served as president of the downtown association. Additionally, she says she helps the local schools a lot and participates in local fundraisers including the annual Christmas Tree Lane at the Palm Center and benefit for the Valley Medical Center. The LDA is dedicated to preserving Livermore’s historic downtown district and destination for residents to come and eat, drink, shop or stroll and enjoy cultural activities year round. Lizzie Fountain, Livermore A well-known landmark in the heart of the Livermore downtown constructed in 1976 and restored in 2010 is Lizzie Fountain, the center of a small corner park and popular spot to play among the vertical streams of water gushing from the shallow pool. But just who “Lizzie” was, and why a landmark was named after her has incited debate and many a discussion in town, according to Rachael Snedecor,
the director of the Livermore Downtown Association. Depending on whom you talk to, the Lizzie Fountain could have been named after Elizabeth Mendenhall, the daughter of William Mendenhall, the founder of the City of Livermore. In 1869 he established a 100-acre town site on his property, according to Livermore history, and named the town site “Livermore” after his best friend, Robert Livermore. It is believed that “Lizzie Street” which is now Livermore Avenue was also named after the founder’s daughter. But the fountain could have been named after the “other Lizzie” in town. Lizzie Oliver lived in the first house built on then Lizzie Street and where the Pacific telephone building was. Known for wearing fancy hats, Lizzie had a reputation for being a little eccentric and a very colorful character in town, according to Livermore history. The debate continues, but the fountain also keeps flowing providing a delightful respite from the Livermore summer heat and ideal gathering place before or after a stroll through the downtown.

Solar Company
PetersenDean Roofing and Solar Jim Petersen and Joe Dean founded PetersenDean in 1984 in their San Jose garage and they have since built thousands of solar energy systems across the country. General Electric invited PetersenDean to be the builder of choice for its new BIPV solar tile in 1999 when they designed, constructed and deployed 500 solar-powered homes. That was the beginning of what would be a successful business integrating roofing and solar power solutions for homes and businesses throughout the state. PetersenDean is partnered with SolarWorld, the largest solar manufacturer in the nation. SolarWorld used American-made solar systems installed by U.S. workers and will supply its solar panels that are manufactured at its Hillsboro, Oregon headquarters for PetersenDean residential installations. Solar4America is PetersenDean’s initiative to support American jobs, manufacturing and energy independence by sourcing solar panels and system components from domestic producers. They employ more than 2,500 workers in eight regional offices throughout the state and operate 15 regional offices in five states.
