Enhancing Parks for Our Community The City of Compton Department of Parks & Recreation is committed to enhance the quality of life for all Compton residents by providing access to clean and safe recreational facilities. On April 15, 2014 the Parks and Recreation Department presented the City Council with the Compton Athletic and Recreational Enhancement program for 2014-15. The Department refers to the program as CARE. The CARE program is an aggressive effort to infuse over $4,000,000 into the City of Compton’s Park and Recreation System. The CARE program goals are: • Increase amenities in parks to meet the needs of the City’s populations • Create a park system to provide space for recreational and leisure activities • Improve access to safe and sanitary facilities • Provide park services to meet the changing recreational demands throughout the year • Develop unique local and regional recreational space CARE Program improvements will be integrated into the existing park system, which include eight neighborhood parks, Jackie Robinson Baseball Stadium, two walking parks, two swimming pools, the Compton Par-3 Golf Course and six community centers to support diverse year round youth, adult and senior leisure time recreational programs.

How We are Paying for Improvements Over the years the City of Compton has received state, federal and local funds resources to improve our parks. FUNDING SOURCES Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District Grant The County provides cities with some funding for parks: $250,000 is available for Lueders Park and $50,000 for Wilson Park. Lease Revenue Bonds In March 2008, the City Council voted to move forward with issuing Lease Revenue Bonds to finance the rehabilitation of several City-owned parks. About $1.2 million remains for further park improvements. Sibrie Park Restoration Funds The City transferred $200,000 from the Public Works/Municipal Utilities budget to the Parks & Recreation budget to restore the recreational areas at Sibrie Park.
