Q. What is the overall online content scenario? India is a lucrative multiscreen video market given the country’s high hourly consumption. This has been growing annually at 66 percent since 2015 and has given rise to several OTT platforms across the globe over the past two years. One of the main drivers of growth is the change in our demographic, with users from ages 15-34 now accounting for 65 percent of the overall market. To put this into perspective, there are about 1.3 million paid OTT video subscribers and about 66 million unique internet-connected video viewers in India. At Limelight, we conduct an annual research to discover consumer patterns and habits around online content consumption. In our recent State of Online Video research report last year, which included responses from consumers in India, we found that online content consumption is growing worldwide. Consumers are taking advantage of the ability to watch what they want, when they want, especially now with constant access to smart devices. We see this especially in India, with smartphones becoming the primary viewing device, as well as among global viewers age 35 and under. At the same time, viewers expect a high-quality online viewing experience regardless of what they’re watching, or how they’re consuming such content. Some interesting things we noted are that video rebuffering is the primary frustration with online content viewing globally, and that online advertising is generally disliked. Q .What are some of the latest trends in online content viewing? Original content is on the rise as OTT platforms are increasing their focus by catering exclusive offerings – the result of sourcing original content from media companies. There’s been a considerable rise in video streaming across all India as a result of improved internet connectivity and decreased data costs. Based on our State of Online Video 2017 report, some interesting trends we’re seeing in India include: India has the highest average online viewing time per week at 7.12 hours l Smartphones are primary devices for online video viewing l The U.S. and India have the greatest number of online streaming video subscriptions worldwide, with 1.67 and 1.63 subscriptions per person respec tively l Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and set top boxes are the most popular streaming devices for online video in India l Globally, 71.5 percent of respondents subscribe to cable or satellite TV for their television service. However, subscription rates vary significantly between countries. India has the highest rate, with 96.6 percent of people subscribing to cable or satel lite TV l Social video on platforms such as Facebook and YouTube dominate the overall landscape as they account for 47 percent and 42 percent respectively of all videos watched online. The remaining consumption is driven by OTT platforms such asHotstar, Netflix, Jio TV, VOOT, and Amazon Prime Video.

l

Q. How does your platform help your customers to secure all valuable content? Limelight Networks enables its customers to deliver secured content across all devices globally. We establish an advanced security layer through DRM-based (Digital Rights Managementbased) encryption, tokenization to authorize partner access, geo-fencing for geographical access restriction, and DDoS protection to counter service disruption due to cyberattacks. On top of it, we provide end-to-end service support to address any technical issue of OTT players 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

Platforms will divers more innovative in through the amalga emerging technolog Augment Reality. Q. How do you see CDN progressing in the Indian market? As more platforms begin to realize the significance of faster delivery of content, they’re continuing to turn towards CDNs to cater to their end-to-end content delivery needs. India has a young and large content consuming population, which is beginning to dominate numbers online, and growing the average data consumption. The monthly data consumption per smartphone at present is 3.9 GB and is expected to grow to 18 GB by 2023. This will increase the significance of CDNs for wide-ranging content delivery solutions. Q.What will be the future trend in this space? We believe that platforms will diversify and become more innovative in their content, through the amalgamation of fastemerging technologies, such as Augment Reality (which we have seen in the popular game, Pokémon GO). Channel experimentation will also become more effective for audience outreach enhancement as consumer behavior

ify and become their content, mation of fasties, such as changes. This will be driven by users adopting more evolved alternatives such as High Definition (HD) viewing and 3D, across geographies, in both urban and rural areas. Q. What are your suggestions for your clients to leverage the best out of every available source? On the topic of online content and ensuring that businesses continually ride this trend effectively, they need to first know and identify who their main target audiences are. Then, to look into how they can reach them, and best capture their attention. At Limelight Networks, we work with our clients to establish that, and to secure broadcast quality online content through low latency streaming. What we always do is to get the businesses we work with to focus on the experience that their customers enjoy – that’s the first step. To get them up to speed and competitive, we work together to develop flexibility in their video delivery infrastructure and also to ensure that content is developed in the format that their customers are watching in, so that they

can continually satisfy their audience, both nationally and internationally. Secondly, we advise businesses and identify their current workflow challenges. It’s only when these are addressed that we move forward and ensure effective and engaging delivery. For example, if it’s a problem with ensuring that media assets are secure, we look at how we can increase protection with global security services such as SSL, Geo Fencing and website attack defenses through DDoS Attack Interceptors, to make sure these issues don’t hinder their content delivery. Thirdly, businesses need to have a deeper understanding of the cloud. We have realized how an integrated cloud-based workflow has enabled countless businesses we work with to get their content to their online audiences faster and easier at the high-quality that their audiences are after. Lastly, customers should use integrated analytics to derive further consumer insights – it’s only when you know what, when, where and on what device viewers are watching content that you can continually stay a step ahead and keep customers engaged with your content.

In addition to these, some gadgets are worthy of accompanying you on your vacation while others give what lies between our ears a break and yet others open up new realms in the world of technology! Smart gadgets have forever changed the way we experience the world and act as life-savers for the modern-day nomad. Some complete must have being -

Power bank Power bank: It is not uncommon for one to brace the countryside with a war chest of electronic devices. You not only take with you your standard smart phone and tablet but also cameras, GPS devices, portable speakers, a spaceship and Ironman’s exoskeleton suit – all of which require umpteen amounts of battery. If these devices run out of juice, you’re left crippled and they wind up as dead weight on your journey. To alleviate this, device makers have created a solution to help you evade such situations. A power bank is a storehouse of energy charges that when connected to another device, transmits energy to it, thus, saving it from its impending death.

Portable Speakers: Whether you ride solo or with a bunch of friends and family, the necessity for music while on the road is inevitable. Road trips painted a picture of youth hitch hiking their way across the country in psychedelic vans or roasting marshmallows over campfires with the sound of faint guitars rising through the woods to meet a sky radiant with stars. The later generation found themselves hovering outside of CD and cassette shops days before their trip in order to have themselves listening gleefully to their favorite records. Well as for the millennial, this is clearly not their vibe. Portable speakers that can handle travelling have seen a surge in demand.

Tablets

Tablets: So instead of waiting for that German guy to finish sending his 20-page email to mum and dad, oblivious to all the people sweating away waiting for him to finish, carry your own Tablet. It is light weight, convenient and small. With a tablet and easy access to internet, planning a trip becomes easier as you can accommodate all your impromptu plans too. Besides this, it also keeps you updated while on the road.

So whether you’re an international jetsetter, or the traditional ‘I’ll just use my legs’ type or just someone who’s caught the wanderlust flu, there are a few journeys that are made more

We have a variety of content including movies, sports, games, songs, etc—all licensed content. For example, if you are going to Agra and want to know about Taj Mahal or Fatehpur Sikri, you can get all the details. Right now we have 40 to 50 good movies and we will increase the number in future. Once, we could install in, say, 500 buses (up from the current number of 200), our solutions will become commercially viable and we can offer more.” Gaurav reveals, “We will upgrade the app from time to time and add AI-based features making it an effective and desired travel companion. The AI-based features will include a chatbot to which the users can just speak and get the answers he wants. The chatbot will also tell the user good restaurants and places worth visiting in a particular place. Right now we charge 7500 per bus per month and we provide the devices to be installed. There are more goodies that we will added from time to time. We are very optimistic that our solution will be accepted and used by more and more people and operators in future”

Facebook Making Ads and Pages More Transparent anyone who sees an unlabeled political ad to report it. People can do this by tapping the three dots at the top right corner of the ad and selecting “Report Ad.” View Ads and Searchable Political Archive In Canada, we’ve been testing a new feature called view ads that lets you see the ads a Page is running — even if they are not in your News Feed. This applies to all advertiser Pages on Facebook — not just Pages running political ads. We plan to launch view ads globally in June. In June we also plan to release a public, searchable political ads archive. This will contain all ads with the “Political Increased Transparency and Accountability for Electoral and Issue Ads Last October, we announced that only authorized advertisers will be able to run electoral ads on Facebook or Instagram.
