Global Study Reveals Healthcare ProvidersMust Prioritize Business Intelligence and Analytics Initiatives to Improve Patient Care and Reduce Costs

Overcom.ing Challenges

HIMMS Analytics study reveals adoption and deployment of user-centric BI and analytics platformskey to uncovering unknown relationships among wide-ranging sources of information

A

s the healthcare industry grapples with the rising cost of care, healthcare organizations are leveraging healthcare data to drive efficiencies in care delivery, according to a new study conducted by HIMSS Analytics on behalf of Qlik(NASDAQ: QLIK), a leader in visual analytics. The study, which surveyed 400 respondents, including C-suite, vice president, and director level contactsconfirms implementation of and utilization of business intelligence (BI) and analytics platforms result in better decision-making across all segments of a healthcare organization. With four key areas explored – level of maturity across a variety of use cases, value that has been realized from current initiatives, challenges experienced from current deployments, and future investment plans in healthcare analytics – the survey revealed that BI and analytics platforms provide better internal transparencyfor easy recognition of clinical and operational efficiencies which can lead to reduction in the average length of stay and higher patient satisfaction.

Utilizing the Right Platforms Lead to Widespread Success According to the study, 56 percent of healthcare organizations that are the early adopters of BI platforms improve overall patient care, significantly reduce healthcare costs, while meeting reporting requirements and driving new opportunities to enhance population health. In addition, 48 percent have confirmed they are able to make faster and more accurate decisions, while 47 percent believe the use of BI and analytics platforms result in cost saving.

Mobility November 2015

As the study proves, BI and analytics platforms enhance abilities for healthcare organization executives to see what is actually happening within their organization across all departments, however implementing a BI and analytics platformdoesn’t come without challenges. • Among the top barrier to healthcare organizations fully realizing the potential of BI and analytics platforms (with 42percent responding) is end-user adoption. When combining the lack of data quality (41 percent) and challenges related to aggregating disparate data sources (27 percent), decision-makers are left relying on outdated spreadsheets and manual processes to analyze data. • In addition, limitations of clinical workflow integration (29 percent), dashboard capabilities (27percent), reporting capabilities (26percent), cultural resistance (22percent) and solution integration (20percent) all contributed. “Utilizing a modern and contemporary BI and analytics platform provides real-time data that is simple for self-service use, as it removes the guess work by the end-user and increases adoption,” said John Hoyt, executive vice president HIMSS Analytics. “With 42 percent of those surveyed reporting that a hiccup in leveraging BI and analytics platforms is enduser adoption, it is imperative that healthcare organizations implement a system that is user-centric and has the ability to provide quick access, analysis and disseminationof information. This enables healthcare organization executives to make operational improvements, improving overall patient care and efficiency.”

Unlocking Further Value from BI and Analytic Deployments As the value of BI and analytics tools become more widely understood among decision makers, healthcare organizations are seeking investments that unlock additional value. Integrating BI and analytics solutions with existing applications and systems is a top investment priority with 36 percent of respondents citing further investment during the next 12-24 months. Dashboard development and predictive analytics were two other top investment priorities with 36 percent and 31percent, respectively. Interestingly, end-user training was cited as an investment priority by 18 percent of respondents.

W

ith numerous options being available to a consumer, the concept of brand loyalty is becoming redundant. Access to information should be easy and the unavailability of the same should not be a reason for the particular work to stop. The speed of execution is what differentiates one business from another helping it retain and further increase its consumer base. Hence, the use of technology is becoming inevitable for companies with mobile workers. Today, since the customer has multiple options and information available at their channel of choice, everything happens in seconds, thus, leveraging technology to ensure quick decision making and driving extraordinary customer experience is the need of the hour – no longer an option

Mobility November 2015

but a mandate to retain your customer and not lose it to competitors. Customer expectations are increasing and putting pressure on organizations to digitally transform their operations in order to meet this need. If a promise was made to a customer, could you deliver that commitment? Did you keep him anxious by depriving him of a tracking mechanism? Were you able to capture his experience? Did it take time to acquire a new customer due to documentation uploading issues? Did you renew a policy and retain your old customer or was your competitor better at it? Thus making all the tasks easy mobile workforce management platform FarEye, in just over two years since

inception, performs “more than a million transactions a day, and has six happy customers per second across 40 clients and ten nations.” It is a solution to the critical problems faced by a manager which is real time co-ordination between consumer requests, mobile workers and field jobs. Such a platform can be used across industries and geographies to make businesses flexible and more responsive. It is a tool to provide business insights to deliver excellence and generate more revenue. By access to information and visibility into operations away from the workplace, companies can speedup decision making, enhance efficiency and provide a delightful experience to customers. Mobile technology is less expensive, more accessible, and easier to use in many ways, and that makes it attractive to the enterprise. The process of executing it goes beyond consumer expectations and helps companies in gaining an edge over competition. But what may not be so obvious regarding the allure of mobile for the enterprise is the degree to which it will democratize the use of technology for businesses in underserved sectors and far-flung locations. The venture of FarEye has grown 20 fold in the last 12 months, according to CTO GauravSrivastava, and while it started with logistics, has since entered industry verticals such as hyperlocals, consumer durables, BFSI, healthcare and e-commerce. It also now provides customized solutions according to the requirements and processes of any enterprise that has employees working out of the office. In this is age of information work can’t be stalled due to delay in information. Companies have started using mobility solutions to improve communication with the field workers, increase productivity, streamline work processes, and enhance customer service and loyalty. There is transparency across various stakeholders making it easy for organizations to include on-demand customer requests and keeping them in the loop at all times. Through real time co-ordination between field workers and employees back at office, FarEye eliminates the disconnect between field workers and backend staff, allowing companies to effectively handle unforeseen situations, demands and be more responsive to their customers. Mobile workforce management solutions include

everything an organization needs to increase the productivity of field personnel, improve results and generate more revenue. Made for mobile and web, the comprehensive dashboard provides exact location of employees & consumer requests and analytics for smarter decision making. Its configurable platform can seamlessly integrate into any workflow enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. FarEye delivers 99.9 % uptime SLA ensuring smooth operations and grows with its clients; being scalable it is not restricted to the size or geography of the organization. It has unique product features like auto – routing, auto assigning amongst numerous others. Such features enhance productivity through route optimization - finding the best possible route to be taken by an employee to reach a customer in the shortest possible time, thus increasing productivity and reducing fuel costs. The Auto – Assign option is becoming increasingly important for the rising on-demand and hyper local operations, it finds the bestsuited field worker to fulfill a customer request through a company’s preset criterion like workload for the day, distance to customer etc. Information can be sent across the entire value chain through the click of a button thereby ensuring seamless and smooth operation. And with the festive season ahead the company is geared up and quite excited. CEO KushalNahata says, “With the festive season upon us, we have designed a robust solution for hyperlocals, marketplace/e-commerce and logistics companies to help them beat the Diwali rush. Plans are afoot to move towards Internet of Things, Internet of Logistics, big data analytics, etc.” Incorporating technology to manage business operations is the need of the hour. Gone are the days when the customers sat by their doors and phones waiting to hear from a merchant – today with access to a plethora of information at the touch of a button organizations need to speed up and reach their customer before a competitor does. Use of technology is no longer an option but a mandate for businesses to reinvent themselves and live up to high expectations of the consumer. A New York minute is all you have to delight your customer. Your speed of execution can win her or lose her forever.

Intel Security Study Reveals that Almost Half of Indian Children Admit to

Meeting or Wanting to Meet A Stranger They First Met Online

I

ntel Security commissioned MSI International to conduct the online survey among 8,026 children and teens ages 8 to 16 and 9,017 parents worldwide. The survey was conducted in United States, Canada, Brazil, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Japan, Australia, Singapore and India. In India, the survey covered 2,370 participants (1,185 parents and 1,185 teens & tweens) in the same age band.

“As with every edition of our Teens, Tweens & Technology survey, this year too, we see some concerning issues being raised. In analyzing the responses of both parents and children, what is evident is that that there are a lot more open conversations and disclosures between them. The good news is while there are open conversations, work is required on ensuring that these go beyond casual chats. It is imperative to focus on ensuring children understand the consequences of their actions as well as agree on good Internet etiquette.”

Melanie Duca,

APAC Consumer Marketing Director, Intel Security

Intel Security released the findings of the 2015 edition of its Teens, Tweens and Technology Survey which examines the online behaviors and social networking habits of tweens and teens aged 8 to 16 years old in India. The study also surveyed the concerns of parents, revealing that when it comes to online activity, parents believe (48%) that the worst thing that could happen to their children is interacting with strangers online. This concern is warranted given that almost half (44%) of the children polled would meet or have met someone in person that they first met online. The most discussed topics are cyber criminals and identity theft (71%), privacy settings (62%), cyberbullying (57%), online reputation (53%) or popularity among friends (52%). Additionally, a surprisingly low number (17%) of parents are interested in finding out if their children are interacting with strangers online. This indicates that while parents

Mobility November 2015

believe that interacting with strangers online may be risky, this knowledge has not translated into remedial action. 90% of parents indicate that they would monitor all of their child’s online activities across all devices if they could. However the majority of the children (64%) indicate to hide (some of) their online activity from their parents indicating that even parents that do keep a watchful eye, are often deceived by what they see.

Infringing Privacy One in four (27%) children know other people’s password and 61% of them have even accessed those people’s account without them knowing. Main reasons cited are to see if they were talking to an ex (64%), wanted to see their private photos (49%) or wanted to dig up dirt on them (42%).

Cyberbullying – Cause and Effect 43% of the children active on social media claim to have witnessed cruel behaviour on social networks, while 52% of the children indicate that they have bullied people over social media themselves. Of these, 27% made fun of others, 24% called someone fat or ugly or made fun of other physical appearances, and 23% tagged mean pictures. Reasons cited for cyberbullying another child were because the others were mean to

them (49%) or they just don’t like the other person (28%). Top 5 Cyber Parenting Tips to Help Facilitate Online Safety 1. Connect With Your Children. Talk casually and frequently with them about the online risks, and make sure the communication lines are open. Foster discussions around relevant news stories or cases at schools. 2. Set Password Rules. To show camaraderie and trust, teens may share their social media passwords with friends or acquaintances. Friend or not, this is a dangerous practice. Put a consequence in place for breaking this critical password rule. 3. Read App Reviews. By reading app flags, age restrictions (ranks include: everyone, low maturity, medium maturity, or high maturity) and customer reviews on an app, you will be able to discern if an app is going to be suitable for your child. 4. Gain Access. Parents should have passwords for their children’s social media accounts and passcodes to their children’s devices to have full access. 5. Up Your Tech Knowledge. Stay one step ahead and take the time to research the various devices your children use. Stay knowledgeable about the newest and latest social networks. While you don’t have to create an account, it is important to understand how they work and if your children are on them.

“Due to the proliferation of connected devices like smartphones, tablets and laptops, an unprecedented level of personal data is now available online, expanding the risk canvas exponentially. We believe that increased education and usage of technologies like parental controls, content filtering and creation of activity logs will play a huge role in empowering parents to ensure a safe digital footprint for their children.

We want Blu to become a premium brand in India Right now we are marketing 30,000 smart phones per month and by April 2016 we want this figure to reach 150,000 mark. Our main areas of operation are Telangana, AP and then other South Indian states. Under the Make in India initiative, soon we will start our own assembling plant near Hyderabad for our products, which at present are being imported from abroad.” Bluemax has around 45 distributors all over South for mobile handsets and others. They have after-sales-service presently available in all the major towns in AP and Telangana and 3 cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Raju Harwani

Director, Blumax Imppex

B

luemax Imppex, based in Hyderabad, was incepted in 2010 and their product portfolio includes feature phones and smart phones under their brand name Blu. They plan to launch their own brand LED TVs from 2016. Bluemax has tied up with a few top brands of China such as G-Five, FORME, B’Leephone and BeeFone for their supply all over South India. In an interaction with Mobility magazine, Raju Harwani, Director, Blumax Imppex shares his rapidly upcoming company’s plans and future outlook. Mr Harwani states, “At present, feature phones and low-end Android smart phones are our main products focused mainly on B and C-Class cities. Right now feature phones form 80% and smart phones form 20% of the cell phones we sell every month. We launched our own brand Blu in 2014 and -C is the series (Blu-C).

Mobility November 2015

Mr Harwani adds, “All our products have better quality and affordable prices. They are tailor-made for the needs of the customers in the B & C class cities. Our own production plant (to be located near Hyderabad) that will be operational by Jan 2016 is expected to roll out our own brand India-made battery chargers, power banks and speakers. And by April 2016, we want to start our own brand LED TV production in our own plant with 10 production lines. Later, we will add 10 more lines to roll out Android smart phones under Make in India programme.” Though presently, they are promoting their own brand, Bluemax is also into distribution although to a small scale. They distribute the brands like Hightech and Sansui. Mr Harwani clarifies, “We are open to distribute other brands besides our own brand if the terms and the brand are attractive. New government’s initiatives like Make in India and Digital India are very forward-looking. But Make in India initiative needs continuous support from the government and time-to-time improvement to be successful. BIS, at present, adds only to more formalities and delays with little improvement on the quality side. For BIS to be successful, it should be implemented with careful monitoring. GST is of course a good policy, which once implemented, will benefit the industry a lot by eliminating the hassles of multiple taxation.” Regarding challenges they are facing and their future plans, Mr Harwani shares, “One major irritant is the unscrupulous online retailing. This has become a major roadblock to the offline distributors and other partners. In fact, it is has a devastating effect on the survival of offline partners. For our brand, we sell our products at the same price—online or offline. This will assure our channel partners. We will be getting standard quality machines from China. In the coming 5 years, first, we want to strongly establish ourselves in the South, both in terms of brand strength and availability, then expand to other states. In future, we want to become one of the premium brands in India.”
