Google Partners with SHAREit to Enhance Security
In June, Google Play has started to add security metadata to all apps and app updates to help verify product authenticity from Google Play. Now, it has trusted SHAREit to securely deliver android apps from one device to another without internet connection. The internet giant has integrated its security metadata into SHAREit platform, debuting the first peer-to-peer sharing app with such integration. SHAREit with 1.5 billion users is one of top 10 apps downloaded worldwide according to recent report by App Annie. Not only leading in file transfer area, as users demand for entertainment content has been increasing, SHAREit has also started to offer local contents such as movies and videos to its users. SHAREit has collaborated with leading Indian content aggregators to strengthen its content catalogue.
IAMAI Creates AR/VR Committee for Developing Startup Ecosystem
The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has formed a new industry expert committee, under its Emerging Technology Council, focused on Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR). The AR/VR Committee is the latest step in its efforts to evangelise AR/VR technology to drive economic growth, job creation, and skill development in the country. Nokia Chennai Factory First to Manuf 5G Radio Equipment
Nokia’s state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Chennai in South India has started manufacturing 5G New Radio (NR) based on the 3GPP 5G New Radio Release 15 standard. The Chennai plant is one of the largest telecom equipment manufacturing plant in the country, recently reaching the 4 million unit annual production milestone of 2G, 3G and 4G units. It serves both domestic as well as global customers, shipping to over 100 countries. Data use has grown tremendously over last several years. In India alone, the average consumption was 7.4 GB of data per user per month on mobile devices over mobile networks, placing India ahead of developed markets like the UK, South Korea and France. Sanjay Malik, senior vice president and head of the India Market, at Nokia, said, “This is another big leap towards the ‘Make in India’ vision as our factory continues to contribute to the Indian economy and the country’s growing profile as a manufacturing and engineering hub.”

RJio 2nd Largest in Subscriber Market Share: India Ratings and Research
India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) has published the August 2018 edition of its credit news digest on India’s telecom sector. It highlights the trends in the telecom sector, with a focus on subscriber additions, subscriber market share, broadband subscribers, data usage and pricing. The key highlights of the report include Ind-Ra’s views that Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited’s outstanding market share growth has been account of its multifaceted approach by offering attractive prepaid/postpaid plans and targeting smartphone users through ultra-cheap high-speed data and digital offerings. Steady Subscriber Growth: In July 2018, subscriber growth continued and was led by a rise in data subscriber. During the month, 10.6 million wireless subscribers were added, indicating a monthly growth rate of 0.9%. RJio added 11.8 million subscribers, led by the relaunch of RJio’s 4G feature phone, while other telcos reported flat subscriber growth.
Xiaomi Sells Over 2.5 Mil Devices in 2.5 Days
Xiaomi, India’s number 1 smartphone and Smart TV brand today announced that it has sold over 2.5 million Xiaomi devices in less than two and a half days. This milestone was achieved between 12PM on 9th October and 7PM 11th October. Xiaomi

It is the highest number of smartphones Xiaomi has ever sold in the mentioned period. Last year, Xiaomi sold 1 million smartphones during the 1st two days of festive sale between 20 to 22 September, 2017 across same platforms. This year this number has doubled to over two million smartphones being sold in less than 2.5 days. Xiaomi sold over 100,000 Mi LED TVs and over 400,000 Mi Ecosystem products and accessories, which also marks the highest number of Mi LED TVs Xiaomi has sold in the mentioned period.

Indian Smartphone Users Spend over 1 hr /day on Entertainment Content
Indian smartphone users spend 1.1 hours on an average on content related to entertainment every day. According to the total rate of content consumption on UC News Feed platform in India, Entertainment is the largest category in mobile content consumption for Indian users accounting for 27.4%, followed by Sports and Lifestyle, which accounts for 18.6% and 13.8% respectively. The report, jointly issued by Cheetah Lab from Cheetah Mobile and UC Media Lab from UCWeb, Alibaba Digital Media and Entertainment Group. The popularity of Football is second only to Cricket, beating the traditional sport KabaddiMS Dhoni more popular than ViratKohli while the latter makes headlines more with Anushka Sharma.
