Want to watch wildlife or just enjoy a peaceful paddle? Then join us for a leisurely tour of Little Seneca Lake. We could see beaver, herons, maybe even a bald eagle. Basic paddling experience is necessary (this is not a lesson), and you can expect to get a bit damp. We’ll supply boats, paddles, and PFD’s, though we recommend you bring your own PFD if you have one. And don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, and extra shoes to change into after. 5/22 All-Anglers Fishing Rodeo at Kings Local Park
Let’s round up some fishing fun! Join us during Military Appreciation Month where children of all abilities will learn and enjoy fishing with special emphasis on supporting our Troops! Prizes will be given in a variety of categories! No fishing experience or gear needed. Adaptive equipment through Fishing Has No Boundaries including wrist saver rods, rod holders, and seated rod holders are available with two weeks’ notice. Toddlers of all abilities are invited to explore the exciting natural world around the visitor center. Families will explore at their own pace using nature play prompts that will remain out for the duration of the program. Visit the front entrance of the visitor center to being your journey through our most accessible areas of the park which are stroller friendly, with shaded areas and locations to rest. Adult Nature Hour
Have you ever wanted to explore the trails after dusk? Or wanted to de-stress and recharge after work? Now you can! Join a Park Naturalist for an adult nature hour. Get in your exercise and breath in the fresh air. And as a bonus, come learn about our nocturnal animals. The hike will be on natural or paved surfaces and will cover 2-3 miles. Friday Foray
Welcome spring by taking a walk in the woods! As we observe all the bold and subtle awakenings that shrug off winter’s mantle, we’ll find our own spirit refreshed and lightened. On our two to three mile hikes on some of Montgomery Parks’ best trails we pause often to listen, look and learn, probing the natural and cultural histories of our surroundings. Directions to the trailhead are emailed to all registered participants two days prior to the hike. Attendance is kept low to assure physical distancing and facial coverings are required. Birds and the Arts
For centuries people have been fascinated by birds, turning their amazement into marvelous works of engineering and art. We’ll share their fascination as we learn all about bird life and bird physiology, from their feathers to their beaks. Then, we’ll turn our own wonderment into artistic expression, capturing the beauty and diversity of the avian world. Rain cancels the program and all participants must wear facial coverings. Flying Squirrels
Maryland Flying Squirrels are abundant, cute, and active year-round, but few see them in the wild because they are active at night - nocturnal. BNC has established a squirrel feeding station so some of our flying squirrels can be seen up close by our visitors. The program starts on the Nature Center deck 30 minutes after sunset to allow the sky to darken. Rain cancels the program. Face coverings and physical distancing required.
