About Us Moda Magazine is the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s first and only life and style publication. It was founded in fall of 2011 by two UW students who saw the need for a publication of its kind on campus. Moda was originally comprised of one publisher, three editors, and a handful of writers, and its only online sections were fashion and lifestyle. In the three years since its launch, Moda has expanded dramatically. It has broadened its reach by adding social, arts and men’s sections alongside its existing fashion and lifestyle sections. It now staffs seven editors, two event planners, two public relations coordinators, a creative director, a photography director, a layout editor, a financial director, and staff writers for each of its sections. It publishes daily online content that includes work by not only staff writers and editors, but also numerous contributing writers. It also produces one online Mini Issue each month, which includes content from each section as well as a main photo shoot. Aside from online content, Moda publishes two print issues per year—one per semester—that are distributed throughout the UW-Madison campus and greater Madison community. It also hosts UW-Fashion Week (UWFW) each year, a weeklong event that includes speaking events and social gatherings, and culminates in the UWFW Fashion Show. Moda is supported by the Wisconsin Union Directorate Publications Committee.

Online Mini Issues Each month of the school year, Moda releases an online-only Mini Issue. Mini Issues typically run between 10 and 20 pages long, and include articles from each of our main sections. Each issue focuses on a central word or phrase, with each article expressing its writer’s perspective on it. Mini Issues also include a creative spread that visually interprets the central word or phrase.

The Print Issue
Moda produces one print issue each semester with articles from each of its core sections: Fashion, Lifestyle, Social, Art, and Men’s. Around 40 pages long, each issue features images from student and professional photographers, clothing from area retailers, and stories written by Moda’s writers. Printed copies are distributed at various campus and local locations towards the end of each semester. The issue is then posted in an online format on modamadison.com between two and four weeks after the printed copies are released.

Print Issue Reach Number of people living in readers’ places of residence
In a survey conducted in October 2014 and graphically represented on the right, the average number of readers each print issue reaches is 3.7. This does not include the potential reach in communal distribution locations, such as student unions, coffee shops, and Greek life housing. Given the nature of these locations and high concentration of students on and near campus, we predict that this number is higher on the UW Madison campus.
