Welcome to the Issue As Winter months are slowly turning into Spring, February is one of my favorite months as we burst into Fashion month from NYC, London, Milan and Paris and get our first glimpses of the trends, majestic creations and explorations of elegance which will shine in the year ahead.

At Modeliste we embrace the idea of seeing culture through the lens of fashion, imbuing clothes with history and storytelling. Fashion is more than reimgainings, they are creative acts and amazing narrivtives of their own. We look forward to sharing all of the overlapping tides of expressionism, minimalism and conceptual art emerging in the fashion scene this season. It is our hope you will follow along to find inspiration for your own unique and authentic canvas.

As this issue goes to print, we are well and truly in the festive season. Deadlines, parties, running on adrenaline to get to the finish line—I’ve forgotten how much I love the end-of-year buzz and festive holiday celebrations which follow.

This year Modeliste was fortunate enough to immerse ourselves once again in overseas travels, taking us to destinations such as Bali (see our favorite hotels in our Ultimate Bali Guide), Turkey, Morocco, France, Tanzania, Kenya, Antigua, Belize, Curacao, The Hamptions, Mexico and Panama. These were all moments to savour the power and creativity of storytelling through different mediums, cultures, landscapes, cuisine, and art through the lenses, empowering and inspiring women.

In 2023, we hope to continue to bring you more awe-inspiring stories from around the world in celebration of each of our own creative uniqueness and significance standing on a global stage.

From myself and the Modeliste team, here’s to taking some precious time out with loved ones to relax, reset and recharge for the year ahead.

We have an exciting lineup of projects scheduled for the first half of 2024, all centred around hair care products that aim to transform the beauty industry. In alignment with our commitment to evolving consumer expectations and contributing to a more environmentally conscious beauty industry, technological integration remains a cornerstone of our product development.

In parallel with our product initiatives, we are embarking on an expansion roadmap. Despite our roots in e-commerce, we recognize the value of having a flagship store, which not only enhances our visibility but also opens up numerous opportunities.

So we are hoping to have the very first store in the United States by Q4 in 2024, which our dedicated team is actively progressing to ensure we provide the best services for our first store.

MODELISTE MUSE VIOLET BENSON How did you begin your career?

I started my career when I was still an accountant at a large public accounting firm as a little side hobby, to help me with my depression. I didn’t have any social media at the time and decided to create my first Instagram account, which I named @daddyissues_ . It was strictly a meme account for women about dating and life and was creating most if not all the memes on that page at the time. I hid my identity and remained anonymous for a little over a year, before “coming out” as the face behind it. I have now been running @daddyissues_ for almost 10 years (it will be 10 years in July 2024) and have since created my personal brand along with my podcast (Almost Adulting podcast) that focuses on mental health. My podcast, Almost Adulting is on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, mostly solo episodes, and has been live and thriving for almost 3 years now.

How do you hope to inspire people through your social media platform? What can your followers expect to see when visiting your social media page(s)?

I think they can expect a good laugh when visiting my meme page, @daddyissues_ , good advice when visiting my podcast page, @almostadulting, and a mixture of both plus my smile when visiting my personal page, @violetbenson.

What do you predict will be the biggest fashion trends this season?

People minding their own business.

Read a good book or watch a good movie?

A book I am currently reading is Greenlight

by Matthew McConaughey. As for a movie, I can only recommend some good shows, take it or leave it! My current favorite shows are: Hometown Cha Cha Cha, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, Crash Landing On You, Mr. Queen, and It’s Okay To Not Be Okay. ( They are all in Korean but they have subtitles!)

Do you have any upcoming travel plans?

If so, where?

I am planning on traveling quite a bit in 2024. Starting with a podcast tour for Almost Adulting, followed by the 10th year anniversary of Daddy Issues, and a book tour for my book that should be coming out mid to end of 2024. If I have any free time left between touring and work, I hope to take my parents on vacation in Europe sometime in 2024 as well!

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I personally consider myself an introvert since I am such a homebody, but anyone else that you would ask, would say I’m an extrovert! Haha. I guess I am a very outgoing person when I am around people since I love to entertain. I don’t get social anxiety, so I love making everyone around me feel at ease and comfortable, I’d say it’s part of my charm. BUT I can only be around others for so much before I need my alone time to recharge. I guess based on this explanation, I’d say I am an introverted extrovert.

What's your go-to airport look?

Essentials to pack in a carry on?

Definitely heels and professional makeup since you never know who you might run into! Haha just kidding… I normally wear comfy sweats and slides with an extra warm pair of socks in my carry-on.

My other essential items that you will always find in my carry on are: my ID, an AmEx, TONYMOLY 24K snail, Derma-e Bright Eyes Hydrogel patches, Nars concealer, Pixi On the Glow Blush Stick, Rhode clear lip gloss, and an epi pen.

Girls night in or Girls night out?

Girls night out!! We can party for 48 hours but then you gotta go home and not to mine.

I’ve never been a fan of sleepovers, not even in high school! The only girl’s night-in that I am interested in is with my cat, Pancakes.

We eat in silence, watch tv in silence, groom ourselves in silence, and go to bed in silence… I like that.

What's a typical work week like for you? Any advice you have for staying productive throughout the week?

Super chaotic because I am not as organized as I would like to be. I would probably work a lot less if I had better time management but regardless, I do it all myself and so far it works for me.

What motivates me to stay productive throughout the week is probably the need to pay my mortgage since no one else will!

What's your current skincare routine?

Any products you'd recommend for our Modeliste readers?

Eye patches are a must for me because of my eczema, so I constantly keep my eyes hydrated!! I use three eyepatch brands which are, Derma-E, TONYMOLY, and Peter Thomas Roth. As for face products, Peace Out Acne for pimples, TONYMOLY 24K snail, followed by COSRX snail mucin serum for face (tiktok really sold me on the snail products), Clarins Double Serum for face and eyes, and ending with Glow Recipe Dew Drops for a shiny complexion. Do I know what I’m doing? No. But prior to this, my skincare routine involved just splashing water on my face and calling it a day, so I’d call this a win.

What's something your followers would be surprised to know about you?

English is my third language, I am legally deaf in my left ear, and I am incredibly allergic to my cat, which is why I must carry an epi pen on me, at all times. (Hey! I never said I made good decisions…)

Where do you gain inspiration for content? Any tips & tricks you'd like to share for those inspiring to have a career like your own?

In the past when I just started, I would study the people that inspired me from their posting schedule to their content and kinda used that as my stepping stone. What helps me now for inspiration is definitely feedback from my podcast listeners. Since my job revolves around catering to them, they are definitely my number one inspiration!

Movies, shows, books, articles, and real life experiences move me and help me with my creativity.

What makes you different from other content creators?

I’m not sure what makes me different from other content creators since I don’t really pay attention to what others do. But I will say this… I am not looking to be relatable; I’m looking to inspire.

What would you like to say to your fans/ followers?

Celebrate yourself! Don’t wait on others to do it for you. From the big moments to the small ones, celebrate yourself! No one knows how hard you worked to get to where you are right now, except you. Life may not always be easy, but it is so much better with you in it!

Do you have any upcoming travel plans?

If so, where?

Yes! I am Heading to the Paradero in Todos Santos this month and then my family and I rented a villa in Merída in February.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I'm an introvert with good social skills for the most part, but once I'm comfortable, prepare yourself for the weird Jade to come out!

MODELISTE MUSE JADE LILY How did you begin your career?

Like many others, I was laid off during the pandemic from my corporate job. Since Moving to LA, I was establishing my career as a marketing and social media manager. When the opportunity arose to work for myself (I call getting laid off an opportunity now) I thought, "well I've been doing this for brands, I can do this for myself." I jumped into it head first and within the year I was signed to an agency.

How do you hope to inspire people through your social media platform? What can your followers expect to see when visiting your social media page(s)?

I hope I inspire those who find me on social media to just be who they want to be, wear what they want, live like a main character.

This is my “Hot Rich and Delusional” theory.

My followers can expect to see LOTS of outfit inspiration, my way of doing the newest hair and makeup trends, my everyday life and me oversharing on stories.

What do you predict will be the biggest fashion trends this season?

Deep red and cherry red outerwear, fur details, biker boots, double denim, long coats with little outfits… if you get the vibe.

What did you love most about your getaway to Playa del Carmen with Modeliste?

I'm going to be a cheese ball, but I loved spending time with beautiful women and making new girlfriends. It felt like a community and I walked away more inspired.

What was your favorite aspect of the Hilton in Playa del Carmen?

My Favorite part of the Hilton in Playa del Carmen was how relaxed and easy going it was. Down to the little cafes and restaurants, the spa, and even an easy walk right onto the beach.

Read a good book or watch a good movie?

Read a good book DUH! I literally finished a book on our flight back from Playa del Carmen!

My go-to airport look is a ribbed tank, thick sweater, a good pair of lounge pants that don't give me diaper butt or sweatshorts, scrunchy socks, and dad shoes.

What's a typical work week like for you? Any advice you have for staying productive throughout the week?

Monday through Friday I typically am answering emails, on calls, fine tuning my content calendar, the list goes on for administrative related things. I typically shoot content twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday). I'm still trying to find the best ways to stay productive but I love to create a schedule for the non-negotiables I need to do for the day and fill in the blanks for the rest. Something I like to remind myself is that problems will always be there tomorrow.

If I can't get to a task, I don't need to beat myself up over it. My mental health is so much more important.

What's your current skincare routine?

Any products you'd recommend for our Modeliste readers?

My current skincare routine is so simple.

Gentle cleanser, toner, moisturizer, under eye cream, spot treatment. I use a lot of Jan Marini products and the dual action Benzoyl Peroxide is the best spot treatment I've ever used. Tatcha Water Cream Moisturizer and Clarins Total Eye Lift are staples for me.

What's something your followers would be surprised to know about you?

I use to be a competitive rock climber/ boulderer.

Where do you gain inspiration for content? Any tips & tricks you'd like to share for those inspiring to have a career like your own?

I get most of my inspiration from Pinterest and watching runway shows. I also get so much inspiration from my friends and talking about work with them. I love the new perspectives and the confidence you get from them when they believe in you to achieve something.

Tips: Be consistent, I know we've all heard that. Hold other people's opinions in a little box and decide whether you want to take it to heart or throw it away! Just start, get a tripod and start taking photos and videos of everything. It'll quickly show you what you are more passionate about.

What makes you different from other content creators?

What makes me different from other content creators is that I have a strategy for all my content and socials. I treat it like a business and when I am stuck or in a creative rut, I've created a well oiled machine that can still run when I'm not at my best.

I was studying broadcast journalism back in Miami and I started modeling as a hobby. I didn’t expect for it to go anywhere but then my career took off. I graduated from college, packed my bags and moved to LA where I’ve been modeling for two years.

Sometimes my platform looks like a modeling portfolio, but on my stories I like to share behind the scenes of me being on set, videos of me working out and photos of my puppy!

I’m from Florida so I don’t know too much about layering up for the winter, but personally I like to look like a marshmallow to protect myself from the cold.

I love how I connected with all the girls on the trip and how we were able to take some beautiful photos but also have time for a spa day and fun activities.

I usually get booked on shoots 1-2 times a week. On my free days I go to castings, shoot creatively with photographers, run errands, or I’ll drop everything and have a spontaneous beach day.

Lately I’ve started giving myself a facial lymphatic massage with my gua shua and face oil. It makes my face look less puffy in the mornings. I also really like using eye gel patches - the ones from Derma E and TONYMOLY are really good!

What's something your followers would be surprised to know about you?

On my social media I can be perceived as “picture perfect” since I post a lot of modeling content, but I’m actually the biggest homebody. I spend most of my time with my puppy, dressed in sweats. Modeling is my alter ego!

Where do you gain inspiration for content? Any tips & tricks you'd like to share for those inspiring to have a career like your own?

Pinterest is the hot spot for inspiration! My advice for anyone who would like to be a model/influencer, would be to not let fear get in the way of you doing it. I moved to LA with barely anything in my bank account but I worked hard and everything worked out! I knew that if I didn’t at least try, I would have so many regrets.

Monday-Friday is about content and filming and then I also take appointments where I can for my in person clients and then obviously lots and lots of emails. The best way for me to be productive is to make lists and try to limit distractions.

I first started off my career in the entertainment industry when I competed in Miss Junior Korea in high school then won the first place title in Miss Korea when I was 19!

That was the first step that directed me into modeling.

How do you hope to inspire people through your social media platform? What can your followers expect to see when visiting your social media page(s)?

From my platform I hope to inspire other models and other Asian Amercians to follow their dreams and do what they believe in! I strongly believe in the idea that you can do whatever you set your mind to and that if you hustle and grind you will create opportunities for yourself. When I was younger I was too shy to admit that I wanted to be a model, and once I finally owned it, I was able to dive head first into it! I will say it was not easy in the beginning, a lot of no's and rejection when it came to castings and booking jobs. However the more you network, test shoot to grow your portfolio, practice your skill, and just put your energy out into the universe, it'll attract what you really want.

What do you predict will be the biggest fashion trends this season?

I think big oversized leather aviator jackets! I think brown will be a big color too.

What did you love most about your getaway to Playa del Carmen with Modeliste?

Honestly I really loved meeting the girls!

We're all so different but still in the same space. I love being around other hard working like minded individuals because we can grow from each other! All the girls were all so sweet and I can't wait for our reunion!

The service and staff at the Hilton in Playa del Carmen was impeccable! Literally whatever you needed it would just appear, they were that good! I also loved how it was right in the center of town but still oceanfront! Prime location.

A typical work week consists of being on set for modeling jobs (which I might have to travel for), shooting brand deals and content with my go-to photographer, nonstop emails, self tape auditions, and constant editing and posting. To stay productive throughout the week I always write out my schedule but also leave lots of cushion for free time between appointments so I don't feel overwhelmed and stressed.

What's your current skincare routine?

I always start with the DermaE Vitamin C serum to gua sha my face with! Then I iceroll my face. I have dry skin so I lock it all in with good intensive face cream!

What's something your followers would be surprised to know about you?

I actually really love junk food (extra hot hot cheetos are my FAV) but also love to cook!

How did you begin your career?

I was managing brands' social accounts when I was working as an intern shooting content, organizing feeds, helping them grow and realized I could be doing this for myself. As I started spending more time on my own social media I got a couple brand partnerships and that’s when things really took a turn for me. I decided to take a risk and quit my other job to fully dedicate my time to creating content and I was able to make it my full time job within a couple of months.

How do you hope to inspire people through your social media platform? What can your followers expect to see when visiting your social media page(s)?

I hope to inspire people and offer value in my content whether that is making someone feel more positive or motivated, or gaining inspiration from my personal style and wellness routines. I am always aiming to share my life in the most organic way and also create a place where not just one niche or person is welcome. I share my own personal fashion and style but I also share about health, mindfulness, spirituality, cooking and my personal life amongst so much more. I hope to create a loving, supportive community who feels like they are a part of my life.

What do you predict will be the biggest trends this winter?

I think trends always come back around and I think less is more will be very popular this winter along with bright colors. Neutrals will always stick around but little pops of colors like red will be big. I’m also loving the classy “old money” style, this kind of plays into the less is more but a prime example of a trend that is making its way back around from the 90’s and I am in love with it.

What did you love most about your getaway to Cabo with Modeliste?

This is such a tough question because I truly loved every moment and feel so much gratitude for being able to be a part of that experience. I think I loved meeting all the girls the most and just sharing funny stories and personal ones as well. It really got me out of my comfort zone and I’ll forever cherish it.

What was your favorite aspect of the Villa la Valencia resort?

Villa la Valencia was amazing! The staff and service was so impeccable I was taken back by it all. My favorite part was it being directly on the beach and the food. Every night I went out to watch the sunset and took some time for myself which was so magical there.

I also think making time for yourself every morning whether that’s for 10 minutes or a couple hours to stay off your phone, journal, workout, go for a walk outside, meditate, do your skincare routine, whatever it is that helps you feel your best is such a game changer for productivity.

Favorite book?

It totally depends on my mood but a book I always go back to and feel like I learn something new each time I do is “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” by Dr. Joe Dispenza. A life changing book that helped me heal and grow in enormous ways. I wouldn’t be where I am right now without the knowledge I learned from that book.

What's your current skincare routine?

Any products you'd recommend for our Modeliste readers?

I keep my skincare routine very simple since I have very sensitive skin and struggle with acne. I use Neutrogena ultra gentle cleanser, followed by my snail mucin and hyaluronic acid, then with CeraVe moisturizer which I know is so controversial but I’ve used it for years and it’s helped my skin so much.

If I’m breaking out I’ll use the La Roche Posay spot treatment and Mighty Patch Zit Patches which I can’t recommend enough for breakouts. They are magical.

Do you have any upcoming travel plans?

If so, where?

I am currently in Mammoth with my family.

We go every year and it’s the best reset. I love being able to go off the grid a little and soak up quality time with them. We fish, hike, go boating, play board games, and just spend lots of time in nature.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I used to think I was an extrovert because I love meeting new people and going out, but as I’ve reached my mid 20’s I think I’m leaning more towards being an introvert now. I really love spending time with myself reading, journaling, meditating, going for walks or cooking. It’s my therapy and I look forward to it so much.

My go to airport look is something always comfortable, I always wear something warm because I always get cold on airplanes.

What's a typical work week like for you? Any advice you have for staying productive throughout the week?

A typical work week for me looks like shooting lots of content and ads, editing, vlogging for YouTube, meetings with brands with my manager, planning out future projects and linking products and outfits I wear for my followers to shop. I think it can be hard to be self motivating in this industry and pushing yourself to get enough done or feeling like you’re doing enough. I find that planning out my week on Sundays helps

I think my followers would be surprised that I love spending time outdoors; camping, fishing, and riding horses. I grew up doing those things and as much as I love fashion and makeup, I have a different side that I don’t think a lot of people expect.

I gain inspiration in so many ways, from nature, art, spirituality, cooking, brands, my own relationships, and I always love spending time on Pinterest and seeing how I can take outfits and make them my own with pieces in my closet. For anyone who wants to pursue a career like my own, I think just start posting content often, figure out what you like and what your personal style is. I know everyone says find your “niche” but I don’t think you need to put yourself in a box. Share what you love and share your personality!

I think the biggest trends this winter will be over the knee boots and just very comfy/chic vibes.

Omg! I loved EVERYTHING! But if I had to pick just one thing… I would say going on the boat. I am not an ocean girl but something about the crystal clear waters in Cabo made me decide to jump in and swim with the fishies.

Villa La Valencia was SO STUNNING! I loved laying out by the infinity pool, sipping a margarita, and staring at the beautiful Cabo beaches!

I am an avid reader so picking my favorite book is a huge challenge! One of my favorite recent reads was “The Perfect Marriage” by Jeneva Rose. It’s a fast paced read that will leave you on your toes!!

What's a typical work week like for you? Any advice you have for staying productive throughout the week?

My work week varies but always includes lots of meetings and content days. To-do lists and my calendar get me through the week. I’d be so lost without them. Ticking something off a list is also such a rewarding feeling.

What's your current skincare routine?

Any products you'd recommend for our Modeliste readers?

I cater my routine to how my skin is currently feeling, so it changes. I highly recommend Elemis’ cleansing balm. It takes your makeup off so well! It makes getting unready so much easier.

What's something your followers would be surprised to know about you?

I’m a homebody! I love being at home, watching a good series with a candle lit.

Where do you gain inspiration for content? Any tips & tricks you'd like to share for those inspiring to have a career like your own?

I find inspo from other creators. So many women on Instagram inspire me every day. I love it!

What makes you different from other content creators?

I think my aesthetic makes me different. I don’t put too much effort into keeping up with an aesthetic because mine is genuine and true to me and I think that translates to my followers.

What would you like to say to your fans/ followers?

I’d love to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the continuous support and love. Being able to inspire others just by being myself is such a great honor. One I don’t take for granted.

I have always had a passion for taking photos and creating content. I did it as a hobby for a few years until I decided I needed to make it my career or find something else to get into as I was spending a lot of time on my content creation. I was able to take on social media as my main source of income in the past year.

How do you hope to inspire people through your social media platform? What can your followers expect to see when visiting your social media page(s)?

I would love to influence people with style and fashion. It’s my main goal for the new year.

What do you predict will be the biggest trends this winter?

Chunky sweaters and oversized coats. Sleek boots and UGGS. Pops of colour but nothing too bright, more softer colours.

What did you love most about your getaway to Cabo with Modeliste?

The trip was very relaxing, I really loved how chill everyone was. Cabo is stunning, the beach is breathtaking and I felt so lucky to be able to wake up by it everyday.

What was your favorite aspect of the Villa la Valencia resort?

The infinity pool.

Favorite book?

Outlander.

I would love to go to Paris in the next few months. I usually go there in the summer when it’s hot so I wanted to try something different and see what it’s like during the fall/ winter. It’s my favourite city.

Both. I love cooking at home with my friends and watching horror movies. I also love dressing up to go out and taking cute photos of each other.

Essentials to pack in a carry on?

Comfy outfit with UGGS,sneakers, sweatpants or yoga pants and a hoodie. I usually bring another jacket because the planes can get chilly. I bring vitamin c packets every time I travel. Sometimes a sheet face mask, sometimes an eye mask depending on the flight time. I can’t go anywhere without 2/3 lip balms. It’s a non negotiable.

What's a typical work week like for you? Any advice you have for staying productive throughout the week?

My weeks always look different based on what I'm shooting and any appointments I have planned for that week. I need to have a schedule or I forget everything, it always helps me map out my week. I think that’s a very crucial part of making your own schedule. I try to get my work done during the week so I can have weekends off, that motivates me and keeps me productive because I usually need the two day reset before the next week ahead!

What's your current skincare routine?

Any products you'd recommend for our Modeliste readers?

I love anything from Caudalíe, the ingredients are so natural and nothing has been harsh on my sensitive skin. Paula’s choice & Mario Badescu drying lotion is always my solution if I’m having a breakout.

I change my skincare products too often to say I have a routine by product, but I always make sure to tone after cleansing, use a serum based on how my skin feels and moisturize heavily. SPF daily too of course.

What's something your followers would be surprised to know about you?

I used to work at a cafe, probably why I'm addicted to coffee and matcha lattes now.

Where do you gain inspiration for content? Any tips & tricks you'd like to share for those inspiring to have a career like your own?

Don’t force it, if it’s not a true passion you will lose interest quickly. Find your niche and be inspired by people within it, Pinterest is a great place to find visual inspiration for almost anything.

I love being original, shooting what I like and what I want to see visually.

Find the beauty in little things and moments and be kind to yourself.
