Can you tell us a little about you? I am an Italian fashion photographer based in Brescia, I love french models … what else to say?

How and when did you get into photography? I was raised in the 90s browsing through (and admiring) pictures from magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, MarieClaire, Elle .. I mean, what could I have done differently?

Does photography mean to you? Interaction, Sensuality, Personality and Elegance. These are for me the four funda-mental aspects of photography: I never face any sho ot if I don't have the possibility to have these elements.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our rea-ders. I have a ver y specific aesthetic idea: it is based on the research of Beauty, which can be considered as such only if it coexists with elegance. I like to create images "fu ll" of light when the work requires colors, matching the palette to the mood that the model infuses - in our studio we do a ver y precise research on this - even if according to man y I express my best in black and white . Maybe because I starte d photo-graphing almost always in black and white. I like t he “time-less feeling" that it manages to convey, and mostly because the image must be thought differently from the colo red one. Lights and shadows are essential.

Where do you get inspiration from? My favorite photograp-her remains Helmut New ton, and at my beginnings I w ould have said my inspiration came definitely from him. Another photographer I sincerely admire, and whose legacy I would like to follow and make mine, is Gastel: his aesthe tic grace is ver y similar to my feeling. For some years I have b een col-laborating with a young Art Director, Paola Pecorar i, the only one to whom I grant permission to have her say on s et… At first it was difficult to find a balance, I am v er y impulsive, but we share the idea of what we consider "beautifu l", and this makes it possible to overcome any confrontatio n. Now all the projects we bring on set are conceived toge ther: we bring ideas, we discuss them and we transform them into an image. She is half my age and this union of visions creates a mix that I love.

Do you think in advance what you want in the pictur e? As said, not only I do think in advance, but all the d etails are carefully discussed and finely prepared days before .

Studio, on location or both? Studio is where I prefer to work, possibly with neutral back-grounds. I think it is the best condition to enhance the model and the dress she wears, furthermore this "forces" me to find a woman with personality, as well as with beauty. It also makes me draw imaginar y lines with the model’s pose that can fill the frame in an in-teresting way. On location is fine as well, but if I can I choose closed spaces: having full control of the light is an essential part of my artistic process. Let's say that a location out-side is always the last choice.

What has been your most memorable ses-sion and why? They all are, I always lose a lot of energy at the end of the shoot, especially on an emotional level. I like to think that the most memorable is the one is to come.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid pr ofessional? Concerning the approach I make no difference: I think that a Photographer worthy of this name mus t know how to get exactly the result he is looking for, only in this way the customer is satisfied and consequen tly is willing to pay him. Taking beautiful photos today is not difficult, technology helps a lot. It is much more complicated to make them interesting and, most impo rtantly, all refined.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens? Fuji ahahahah .. Joking aside, I currently photogr aph with various cameras: Nikon, Fuji, Sony … Each one has a different perfor mance, I like to match it to the model, to the char acteristics she has (hair color, skin ton, etc.). The lens I us e the most is a recent 85mm and a 60 year old 135mm , I love it.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own busi ness? Many would say to change their mind and do another job hahaha… I can only sug gest to him, if he is at his be-ginning , to put down the reflex camera and look at many images of more or less famous photographers, a nd to create himself a personal aesthetic sense. Only the n he will be able to turn it into a picture. And I would tell him to remember that there is no right or wrong , there is The Interesting and The Not.

What do you think of our new magazine? I think giving emerging photographers the opportun ity to be known by a large audience is a great thing. Maximum respe ct for famous photographers, this must be clear, bu t to have a generational turnover worthy of their heritage, w e need spaces that allow the new generation to make them-selves known.
