o celebrate our fourth anniversary this month, we at ModelsnTrends decided on the sensational Bollywood beauty Sherlyn Chopra for the cover. Known for her revealing and saucy style, she 'dares to bare' with panache. However, the age old question that emerges sans media is that 'How could a bhartiya nari...?’ Well, such has been the plight of the Indian woman ever since the time that the first woman drove a car; the first woman wore jeans; the first woman wore a mini skirt, a hot pant; the first woman on the screen, who wore a swimsuit and now onwards to the kiss! kis ko kiss karoon... the list of the anguish goes on. Arre, jaane bhi do yaaron....................Chhodo kal ki baatein, kal ki baat puraani. What we saw in this ravishing beauty Sherlyn as the cover choice was her determination and resolve to become a power brand after having gone through a complete transformation (more on page 42 onwards). ‘Where there is a will there is a stay’, and she is here to stay as a great source of inspiration, for all aspiring models wanting to enter this world of fashion and glamour. The ModelsnTrends family is on the move. The recent success of Manasvi Mamgai, who was crowned the winner of ‘Femina Miss India World 2010' contest was indeed exhilarating, for all of us. To refresh your memory, ModelsnTrends magazine had foreseen Manasvi's rise to stardom in its March 2008 issue, where Manasvi was featured as the ‘Rising Star’. Alisha Pekha, our ‘Cover Girl’ in the November 2009 issue, also did the ModelsnTrends family proud by emerging as the finalist in the 'Femina Miss India World 2010' contest. Our ‘Cover Girl’ in the September 2008 issue, Sanjana Singh was nominated for the 'Best Supporting Actress’ award for her role in the blockbuster movie Renigunta in Tamil. Our best wishes are always with her. Our adviser, Rohit Bal got back into action with his brilliant 'Outlander Signature Collection’. ‘Heart(y)’ welcome my dear friend after having braved the unknown depths. The 'Miss North India 2010' beauty pageant was held on May 4, 2010. Not only was ModelsnTrends the media and glamour partner but two of its models, who were given wildcard entries, also emerged as winners. Pooja won the crown and Soreiya was the finalist of this popular pageant. ModelsnTrends has been invited to be the magazine partner for an upcoming state level ‘Mumbai Amateur Fashion Week’, in which talented amateur designers from Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Delhi will participate. This goes in sync with our ideology of promoting upcoming talent. Collaborations with other beauty pageants and fashion weeks are on the anvil in the coming days ahead, both at national and international levels. Well who knows, where we are gonna catch you. So it is time to move on, take care. Ciao! Adieu!

“Let’s create an image, where everyone can have a feeling of hot and cool simultaneously.” This was the crux of the discussion between the chief editor, Anup Bhandari and ace lens man, Vishal Saxena while zeroing in on the sensational babe of Bollywood. Sherlyn, who is known for her revealing and saucy style, chipped in her best by doing something hatke this time. She deftly moulded herself into the role of a cool and cosy, ultra modern, ravishing damsel, who was all set to blaze the camera. Complemented with the makeup and hair styling by Tulsi; costumes and styling by Sana Khan and assisted by Anu, the photographer Vishal Saxena went wild clicking this awesome beauty. He did not even miss a single opportunity to capture the best of this well sculpted sexy persona. See more of her mystic transformation on page 42.

Celebrities are the vanguard propagating the latest fashion and trends. Time and again, we tend to follow their fashion and style in our routine life. Stylist Kanika Jain checks out as to how some of our celebs are poised to flaunt the latest fashion in this shimmering summer season…

Tanushree Dutta

Tanushree breaks the colour monotony of her short red dress with white high-heeled shoes and clutch bag. Her look is strong (because of the red) and clean with minimal accessories. Perfect for a night party.

Low heeled shoes and sandals make your strides comfortable. Open stiletto heels or cork platform sandals are appropriate for summer wear.

Lara Dutta

Lara’s short, collared, waist cinched shirt-dress in the most favourite colour of summer and Louis Vuitton tote and animal print high-heels add immense spark to the star’s style. Perfect tryout for a daytime event.

Sonam Kapoor

Gorgeous Sonam is wearing a waist cinched electric blue, wide legged jumpsuit styled with a long sling clutch bag that has a snake leather feel to it. Her look can be described as sexy, bright and elegant. The look is perfect for any celebration occasion.

Koena Mitra

Koena’s corset fitted thin strap short dress, beautifully shows off her well-toned body. Dull grey and white colour with all over stripes is perfect even for a day event. To make the look brighter, sporty yet sexy, she brings a hint red in her look with a small red clutch. 18

igh-end shoes, handbags and fashion accessories brand Jimmy Choo narrates an interesting tale of two ambitious genders, who were introduced to each other by destiny. Crafted by shoe couturier, Jimmy Choo and nurtured by Tamara Mellon, accessories editor of fashion magazine Vogue, the luxury brand was launched in 1996 when the potential demand for stylish but wearable shoes was envisioned.

Designer Jimmy Choo had set up his own factory in 1986 by renting out an old hospital building in London. He had to endure the worst years of his life until he was extensively covered by Vogue in 1988. His impeccable craftsmanship and trendy designs became an instant hit with the fashionistas. Although his appearance in this magazine made him famous, yet money did not pour in, till late Princess Diana spotted his designs. She immediately fell in love with his work and became his regular customer. The sales started rising only once the media publised pictures of the princess in Jimmy Choo’s shoes.

Tamara Mellon, President, Jimmy Choo

The brand is the recipient of the 2008 'Designer Brand of the Year' award from the British Fashion Council; 'Brand of the Year' award at the Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards in 2008; 'Brand of the Year' award in 2008 at the 22nd Annual Footwear News Awards in New York, and ‘Partners In Excellence’ award by Nordstrom in 2009.

Later, his association with Tamara, the cofounder and now President of the company, paved the way for this iconic luxury lifestyle brand. Tamara sensed the future of hi-end designer fashion accessories in mass market and also established a ready to wear shoe company. These products were initially sold through a stand alone boutique at Motcomb Street, London where even wholesale business was conducted.

Success all through

Since then, there was no looking back and in 1998, the brand entered the fashion world of US and opened its first boutique in New York, followed by another in Los Angeles during 1999. Tamara entered into a design collaboration with Sandra Choi, niece of Choo’s wife and creative director of the company. This association got great recognition from other top stores. By 2001, the brand had over 100 wholesale clients including Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman.

A darling of glamorous celebrities of Hollywood, the brand became synonymous with the ‘red carpet’ shoe of choice and was hailed the lucky charm for Oscar winners such as Cate Blanchett, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank and many

other Hollywood actresses. Later on, the brands’s association with hit Hollywood flicks like Sex and The City, The Devil Wears Prada and In Her Shoes heightened its success graph.

In April 2001, Equinox Luxury Holdings Ltd purchased its equity shares. During this period, the brand introduced handbags and expanded into additional territories. In November 2004, Lion Capital acquired a majority shareholding of the company. In February 2007, a majority shareholding of Jimmy Choo was acquired by TowerBrook Capital Partners, the international private equity firm. In October 2009, the brand announced a new licence agreement with Inter ParfumsSA for the creation, development and distribution of fragrances under the Jimmy Choo brand.

Impeccable designs and craftsmanship

Today, Jimmy Choo is a complete luxury lifestyle accessories brand that encompasses exquisite collection 24

of women’s shoes, handbags, small leather goods, sunglasses and eyewear. The core of all fashion accessories of the brand has been their classic designs, comfort, quality leather and excellent craftsmanship. The brand offers a fresh selection of innovative, trendy shoes, handbags and fashion accessories each season, without abandoning the classic silhouettes that are always in vogue.

Its products are available in the growing network of Jimmy Choo freestanding stores and also in the most prestigious departments and speciality stores worldwide. From its original base in the United Kingdom and United States, the Jimmy Choo store network now encompasses 32 countries. According to Tamara Mellon, "I always said that I was determined to own a truly global brand. I did not buy Jimmy Choo, just to have a couple of shoe shops in London, did I?" True to her promise, she made this extremely limited custom-made brand a fashionable mass market luxury brand.

by Anu Singh Pruthi, Tattoo Empire India

Once the time consuming process of finalising the tattoo studio is over, the actual work begins‌

tattoo design is the first thing to choose, as it is going to be on your skin for a lifetime. Thus, choose the best that suits your personality. You can also customise any design by innovating with various art forms, such as stars, wings, flags, ornaments etc. The artist can easily alter or even create a new design as per your choice. The tattoo process takes around two to three hours depending on the size of the tattoo. A prior appointment with the artist is suggested, so that a time slot is reserved for you. You may have to pay an advance for the customisation of the design, so that some options are presented to you, when you come for tattooing.

Paperwork:

Before starting the process, a 'tattoo release form' or an 'indemnity' form is to be filled as a declaration related to your health, consent, age verification, etc. Then you will be directed towards a chair or spa bed depending on the reach of the tattoo artist.

Tattoo process: First of all, the tattoo area of the skin is cleaned and shaved. The artist does not start tattooing with the machine immediately. First, he sees the placement of design on the skin. For this, he makes a stencil or an outline image of the 34

The best time to get a tattoo is during the colder months. This period is essentially beneficial for your health and the tattoo. Getting your first tattoo will definitely be an unforgettable experience. Getting it done right the first time may even become a greater experience, which you will love to repeat.

design with a carbon paper and then transfers it onto the skin by an adhesive like gel.

Some artists may make a freehand design on the body with an alcohol based pen. Use a mirror to satisfy yourself with the design, its size and placement. After this, the artist will start taking out the consumables for the tattooing process. You must inspect the quality of these products carefully before giving a go ahead for the usage of these items. The artist will then start filling the new ink cups and begin mounting the new needles onto the machine that is used for tattooing. The

tattooing process begins now. Relax, stay calm and enjoy the experience.

Tattooing experience:

One is often anxious thinking about the pain during the tattooing process. Tattooing pain is not so hurting and is quite bearable. However, you can even opt for a numbing cream for a painless experience.

Buzz it now: The artist starts the machine, dips the needle into the ink and starts working on the skin. Hold on tight and breathe normally. As the process continues, the anxiety is reduced and you start feeling much better and relieved. If you still feel uncomfortable after a few minutes, it maybe because you are sitting in an uncomfortable position. Get into a more comfortable, reclining position but make sure to ask the artist first before trying to move. Most people can sit through for over an hour at a stretch. However, if you become uncomfortable, just ask your artist for a break. You might consider having a candy or taking water to give you a boost. After this, the artist covers the exposed portions with a poly covering to prevent cross contamination.

Model: Piya Trivedi

Tune up the tattoo: At first,

the artist will make the outline of the tattoo. Starting from the bottom to top, it will require regular wiping of ink with tissue and working on the needles. After this, he will do the colouring and shading, proceeding to the final corrections and touch-ups. After completion, the artist will wash your tattoo and click a few photographs. Then your tattoo will be bandaged and you will be advised as to how to take care of your new tattoo, commonly referred to as ‘after care’. Now your new tattoo is a part of you, nurture it, cherish it and flaunt it.

Anita Dongre World Class Indian Designer

'Global Desi In Support Of Aseema'

Anita Dongre, the queen of cosy fabrics and cool colours, is known popularly for liberating women from the straitjacket of traditional tailoring. Her designs and apparels vouch for the freedom, fashion, attitude, desire, tradition and individuality of women from all walks of life. Each creativity of Anita embodies her diligence for style and design, which are inspired from her love for life, nature, art and movies. Little wonder then, that she is also associated with environment awareness and NGOs for charity . She belongs to the category of those special designers, whose creativity adorns not only royalties and celebrities but masses also. She has won several accolades nationally and internationally for her creations and has recently designed exclusive clothing for the 18 finalists of Miss India 2010 beauty pageant. A designer of international approach, Anita Dongre is the favourite World Class Indian Designer of Anup Bhandari, Chief Editor, this month.

How do your labels cater to the fashion loving modern women? How are these labels different from one another in style, designs and targeted consumers? I have five brands. Primarily, the product, the price range, and the final intended customer make them different. My label ‘Anita Dongre Timeless’ is couture and bridal wear brand that speaks about nothing less than luxury; ‘Anita Dongre Interpret’ is a globe tottering mix and match collection of contemporary styled occasion wear; ‘Global Desi’ is a funky mix of international cuts styled with typically Indian fabrics and embellishments; ‘Grassroot’ organic range is created with natural dyes and hand-block prints on organic fabrics and ‘AND’ is a young and trendy everyday wear line with a punch of glamour. 38

Do you still remember the day when you decided to shape up your creativity and vision? What is the difference between that day’s Anita and today’s flourishing Anita? I have grown creatively and otherwise. Had I been the same, I would not have been here. My perceptions are broader but we all work towards the same vision and goals. I have always focused on creating an extremely well managed company and here I am today.

What is the secret of your jovial colours and cool fabrics selection? How do you keep a tab on people’s preference in fashion? The secret is to be jovial. People like to wear clothes that are comfortable, different and unique. You need to think out of the box and that means, do not follow trends. How essential is inspiration and creativity for a successful collection? What are your sources of inspiration? Very much, these are rather the core of every creativity and art. Rajasthan is my source of inspiration. However, the colours and textures of India are beautiful. I also get inspired by art and festivals of the country. I am creatively inclined to use mixed mediums. What kind of image do you have in mind about the wearer while designing a collection? My every label changes the look and feel of the garments. The only common thread among all these labels is that they are designed keeping an independent, smart, and stylish woman in mind.

LFW SS ‘10

Designer wear is still inaccessible to the masses. Is fashion meant for any particular category? No, not at all. I am trying to be accessible to the masses. You do not need to pay an exorbitant amount of money to wear something high fashion. I make high fashion clothes at affordable prices.

LFW Summer Resort ‘10

Are style, passion and sensuality vital for women’s fashion? To a certain extent, yes. However, I also believe that if you are confident then all these qualities just follow you.

Do you think that a designer has some responsibility towards society, apart from designing clothes? Of course, a designer at the end of the day is a citizen of the country and has the same responsibilities like any other artist or citizen. More and more fashion weeks are happening nowadays. Is this trend good for designers or is it a burden on their creativity to present something new frequently? From the buyers’ point of view, there should not be more than two fashion weeks per season for India to emerge as a strong market. Fashion weeks should be considered as a platform where serious trade is conducted. Anything more than two fashion weeks creates awareness and a desire to buy fashion clothing, but serves no other purpose. What changes do you observe in Indian and international fashion? Do you think that Indian fashion is capable enough to make a mark on the global map? India has always been a source of inspiration for most designers in the West, in terms of textiles and fabrics. Unfortunately, no Indian designer has made a mark globally but I can definitely perceive that change in the next ten years.

How are you planning to enhance the reach of your labels on the retail front? What are your plans for launching new stores on the national and international level? I have a team that identifies proper locations for opening stores across the cities in India. By the end of this year, I will be opening some more stores across the country. There is nothing in the pipeline internationally but eventually, we will be opening a store abroad. What is the future of couture fashion in India? How do you keep a balance between prêt and couture? What is the forte of your couture label ‘Anita Dongre’? Couture fashion is dying out in other places but India is a great market for couture fashion and definitely has more potential to grow. Currently, I have only one couture store ‘Anita Dongre Timeless’ at the Palladium in Mumbai.

Her clothes are full of feminine spirit, youthfulness and are very chic. The colour palette of these clothes is vivacious and fascinating. The cuts and silhouette perfectly suits the Indian figure. — Alisha Pekha, model

I am also looking at opening these stores in other cities. I have prêt labels like ‘AND’ and ‘Global Desi’ and the advantage is that prêt is fast moving. I am now focusing energies on my couture label. ‘Anita Dongre Timeless’ is simple and classic with good quality clothes and focuses on what a women needs.

Do you think Indians are as fashion conscious as Western or European people? Awareness of Indian fashion is growing and our prints and fabrics are becoming increasingly popular in other countries. The exposure to art has also increased. There is a burst of embroidery and textiles. Internationally, people of other countries are adopting a sense of our culture with a new found sense of fashion.

Anita understands women thoroughly. Thank goodness, all her clothes are not size zero. Her creations look absolutely stunning when worn. —Juhi Chawla, actress

In India, the popularity of a designer is measured by the number of Bollywood stars that the creations are made for. How do you see this trend? I have always maintained that my client is hugely intelligent and buys with personal taste. Bollywood creates fads that are far from what my clientele follows. The fact that I am still doing my own thing means it is not a trend. What are the things that you keep in mind while designing dresses for a celebrity? While designing clothes for a celebrity, I keep her persona in my mind and accordingly I create an outfit that makes a style statement.

What do you look for in a model for presenting your collection? They need to represent the everyday woman. Their attitude and aura should be confident and stylish. I look out for different qualities in a model for each label of mine. For ‘AND’, I look out for a model, who is younger and enjoys fashion in a casual kind of way. For ‘Global Desi’, I look out for a model, who is comfortable in ethnic clothes. For my label ‘Anita Dongre’, I look out for an older model, who has a timeless sense of style. How would you like to be remembered amongst the fashion fraternity? Nothing much but my work should speak for itself.

'Global Desi In Support Of Aseema'

Models have been a part and parcel of the fashion industry. How do you see the current modelling world, especially with the inflow of many new faces? It is an opportunity and a choice for designers to experiment. We have broken out of the shell of skinny or beautiful models. The fashion industry has become more acceptable to unconventional looks.

COVER GIRL

Sherlyn Chopra This hot and happening damsel can surely allure and fascinate the fantasy of any man with her sculpted body. The glamorous Sherlyn is the envy of many an eye in tinsel town. However, her journey from a simple life to stardom has not been a cakewalk. Here this ravishing beauty reveals about her transformation in life and persona ‌ Q. You are known for your bold and outrageous image in the industry and publicly. However, how is the real Sherlyn Chopra? I am naïve in real life but I pretend to be street smart. I am naughty and prefer to be a child like girl rather than being all grown up. There is nothing outrageous about me. Even though I lead a simple life, yet I have been misunderstood. Q. You said that you were an ugly duckling in your school days, then how did you transform your image? What inspired you for this metamorphosis? I was bored of my thick reading glasses. So, I opted for contact lenses. Then I got bored of being a flat chested girl, so I got myself a pair of implants. One thing led to another and the incredible transformation happened for real. 42

Q. Tell us about a childhood incident, which you will never forget? I was in the tenth standard when I asked my dad to help me with a speech to contest for the Presidential election in my school. He wrote a two lines speech that got me a standing ovation from all the students and teachers. No prizes for guessing, who got elected as the President that year. My dad always had a way with words. This memory will always be special for me. Q. It is said that this industry is full of nightmares for an outsider and a novice. Do you ever feel so? In every walk of life, one comes across such people, who do not mean what they say. Then there are others, who lack integrity and self respect. I often come across such people everyday. By choice, I avoid associating with them. Q. What has been your experience with the industry and its people till date? The industry has been kind to many promising talents. It is mainly perception driven and perception can be a far cry from reality. Q. Why modelling and Bollywood? Was it your dream or you wanted to do something else in your early days? I was the topper in my school and then in college. There came a point of time when I got mentally tired of books. I also wanted to break free from the hostile environment at home. So, I quit home and drove to the city of hope, Mumbai.

Q. What exactly do you want to become – a singer, dancer, model, page 3 celeb or a sincere actress? More than these. Actually, I want to become a power brand that has the potential to generate a huge turnover per annum. Q. Did you get any formal education in dance and singing? Yes, basic knowledge is essential. Q. How was the experience of being a part of the TV show ‘Bigg Boss season 3’? Why was every housemate against you in the show? In terms of visibility, it was terrific. The show has helped me immensely to connect with the masses of India. However, the stay in the house was not quite pleasant. I prefer solitude to mediocre company. I could not bond with anybody in the house, either emotionally or intellectually. Maybe, this was the biggest reason for their antagonism. Q. Are you planning to be a part of any TV serial in future? Not yet. Currently, I am focussing entirely on ‘A’ grade films. Q. You are often very outspoken on sex and extra marital affairs. Is it a publicity stunt to get people or media’s attention or is it your natural instinct? I speak with an open mind and I like to call spade a spade. It is better to express than to repress. However, I guess that the media finds my expressions and thoughts quite outrageous. I really wonder why? Q. What was your parents’ reaction to your decision of entering the glamour industry? Initially, there wasn’t any reaction but later, the reaction was one of shock.

Q. How is your relationship with your parents now? My dad passed away a few years ago. I am struggling to have a cordial equation with my mother. Q.You are working in new projects with big banners of Bollywood. Are you choosy about your roles or go for each and every role that is offered? Talks with ‘A’ grade film makers are in the pipeline. I am chasing excellence, since I believe that there is no excuse to put up with mediocrity. Q. Do you think that nowadays good looks and good physique helps one to excel in any field of working? Comment. The mind and the body are co-related. It is very important to stay fit to be able to look fit and feel fit. Fitness is about strengthening the mind and the body both, which cannot be ignored in the competitive world that we live in. Q. What is fashion and style for you? Tell us a fashion tip that you think really works. For me, fashion is interesting fusions, which are simple. Style comes from inside and nobody can teach you about this trait. My style mantra for dressing is ‘less is more’. Fashion can be subtle and simple. Do not decorate yourself as a christmas tree. Q. Who inspired you to launch your fitness and yoga CD. What is the idea behind the launch? When the opportunity to feature in a fitness DVD came to me, I grabbed it with both hands. I have been an ardent admirer of actress Jane Fonda. She had introduced fitness as an indulgence, which could be termed as ‘fun’. I would like to promote fitness vehemently, as I strongly believe in it. I would also like to blend beautifully the fun element in my workout regime.

Q. You have done a Telugu movie and an international movie. Are you not happy with Hindi movies? I am waiting for a suitable breakthrough in Hindi movies. Hopefully, it will happen this year. Q. What sea changes do you observe in today’s cinema and its audience? The audience of today has become very demanding with zero tolerance for mediocrity. Our Hindi cinema has evolved drastically. Today, content has become the king and is above the banners, stars and directors. Q. What are your future plans? I am currently working on my fitness DVD and I am also preparing to hit the 70mm with a bang.

amous American actress Lana Turner once remarked that she would rather lose an expensive earring rather than being caught without makeup. American model, actress and singer, Tyra Banks loves the confidence that makeup gives her. Makeup is an art, which inspite of its importance, every woman is not perfect at. Professional makeup is not always possible and

in any case, it consumes considerable hours and money. This exercise should only be reserved for special occasions. For any other presentation, every woman must know how to exploit that best in her, through proper makeup, so as to exude charm and sensuousness. It is important to know your own self and for a fast getaway, it is possible to give your face the best lift. These tips will guide you through.

Before applying any kind of makeup on the face, first clean it with a face wash. Apply toner after cleaning and lightly moisturise it. If it is summer season then mix your sunscreen and foundation before application. One coat instead of two is sufficient, in this case.

3 Shape up your eye brows with the help of an eyebrow pencil and then apply eyeliner. Use eyeliner pencils instead of liquid liners. Apply a coat of compact over your liner to keep it from running.

4

Put a dash of colour on your eyelids with the lip liner that you will use on your lips. Smudge well to give a smooth look.

2

Now apply a coat of translucent powder over the foundation. It is better to use mineral powder, which is without talc, chemicals, fillers, dyes etc. that may cause allergic reactions.

Use the same lip liner (as mentioned above) to colour your lips for the final finish. JULY 2010 Models Trends

Sun sins T

Shahnaz Husain

The effects of sun damage on the skin are much more profound than we realise. Recent scientific studies show that sun exposure is responsible for many dire skin effects, including pre-mature ageing...

he sun is more intense during summer, but basking in the warmth of the sun in winter is always a pleasure. However, we do not realise the cumulative damage being caused by sun exposure. Sun tanning is one of the immediate effects of exposure, resulting in a darker or tanned skin. It is one of the short-term results along with moisture depletion. So what causes tanning? Exposure to the sun increases the production of melanin, which is the skin’s pigment or colouring matter. Melanin actually protects the skin from the sun’s harmful ultra violet radiation. In fact, the production of melanin is a protective mechanism of the skin. Once melanin is produced in the lower layers of the skin, it moves up to the skin surface. Since it is dark in colour, the skin also becomes tanned. In the West, fair skinned people chase the sun in order to acquire a tan. However, in India, a high premium is placed on fair skins, so sun tanning causes much despair. Apart from tanning and moisture depletion, there are other effects of sun-exposure too. The skin is exposed to harmful ultraviolet radiation, which has several long-term effects. It leads to oxidation damage, resulting in premature ageing of the skin. There can be other problems too. Sometimes, the uneven transfer of melanin to the skin surface can lead to dark spots or freckles, patches and blotches on the skin.

Models Trends JULY 2010

So, what is the solution? Physical protection from the sun’s rays by applying sunscreens, wearing a hat or carrying a parasol, is the only answer. Also, try to avoid sun-exposure between noon and 3 p.m., when the sun is directly overhead. Most sun block products have built in moisturisers. If the skin is very dry, a sunscreen cream should be used, otherwise a sunscreen lotion may be quite adequate. It is essential to apply sun block products not only on the face but also on all exposed areas. The back of the neck and arms are also extremely vulnerable to sun damage. The sunscreen should be applied about 20 minutes before sun exposure. If you happen to be in the sun for more than an hour, you should apply the sunscreen again. If the skin is more sensitive and tends to burn easily, one should use a sunscreen with a high SPF. The SPF stands for ‘sun protection factor’, denoted by a number, which is usually mentioned on the label of the sunscreen product. It is related to duration of sun exposure and also to individual skin sensitivity. For sensitive skin that is prone to dark spots and patches, a sunscreen of SPF 40 and above should be used. If the skin is oily, use an ‘oil-free’ product. This may also be mentioned on the label. Remember to take your sunscreen while playing outdoors, or holidaying by the sea or in the hills. Reflective surfaces,

like water and snow actually increase the effects of UV radiation. Some sunscreens with natural ingredients like aloe vera, sesame seed (til), sandalwood and sunflower help to counteract sun damage and moisture loss. They are natural sun-filters, emollients and moisturisers, which help to maintain the optimum moisture level and protect the skin from dehydration and sun damage. These sun-filters do not allow the sun’s rays to be absorbed by the skin and hair. These are also powerful antioxidants. Since the ancient times, sesame seed and sandalwood have been known for their sunscreen properties. They also help to soothe the skin and reverse sun damage. The question of removing tan is of immediate concern for those affected from it. A facial scrub is useful in tan. Use a facial scrub according to the skin type. If the skin is dry, a scrub should be used only once a week, but for oily skins, it may be used more often. The scrub should be applied and rubbed gently on the skin with small circular movements. Then wash it off with plain water. This helps to remove dead skin cells containing the pigment. The skin becomes brighter and the tan is gradually removed. You can also make a scrub at home with kitchen ingredients. In fact, many such ingredients can be applied on the skin to gradually remove the tan.

Some home remedies to remove tan Scrub: Almonds make a good facial scrub. Soak them in hot water till

their skin comes out easily. Allow them to become totally dry and grind into a powder. Every morning, add a little curd or cold milk to two teaspoons of the powder and rub the mixture gently on the skin. Wash it off with water. Mixing rice powder with curd and using it as a scrub helps oily skin. To remove tan: Apply daily a pinch of turmeric (haldi) added to curd and wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, apply one teaspoon honey mixed with two teaspoons of lemon juice or half cup dried lemon peel mixed with cold milk or yoghurt. To remove tan on oily skin: Mix lemon juice and cucumber juice in equal quantities and apply for 20 minutes daily. You can also use

yoghurt in the mixture. Wash it off after 20 minutes. It will suit oily skin, since cucumber is an astringent. You can try tomato pulp after mixing it with one teaspoon honey. For sunburn: Apply cold milk daily using cotton wool. It will not only help to soothe the skin, but also keep it soft. It also makes the skin colour lighter over a period of time, if used daily. It would suit normal to dry skin. To soothe sunburn: Another remedy to soothe sunburn and to protect the skin is by using sesame seed, or til. Take a handful of the sesame seed, crush it and add to it half a cup of water. Let it stand for two hours. Strain the liquid and use it to wash the face. For dark spots: Mix half spoon of coarse salt with cream or even plain white petroleum jelly. Apply on the dark spot areas and rub gently. Wash off and then apply cold milk on the entire face. Wash it off after 15 minutes. Cleansing and skin lightening mask: Mix cucumber and papaya pulp with one teaspoon curd, one teaspoon honey, four teaspoons oatmeal and one teaspoon lemon juice. Apply the mixture twice a week on the face and neck and wash it off after half an hour. Body: Massage daily with sesame seed oil. Mix besan with curd, lemon juice and a little turmeric. Apply on neck, arms and legs three times a week for 30 minutes. Wash it off and then apply the oil. For hands: Take coarse sugar and lemon juice. Apply on the hands and keep rubbing till the sugar dissolves. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse. You can also try two tablespoons sunflower oil and three tablespoons coarse sugar. Mix together till it becomes a paste. Apply and rub into the hands. Rinse off after 15 minutes. For feet: Add lemon juice in water and soak the feet in it. It will cool, clean and remove tan and odour. Rubbing lemon on the feet also helps. Write to shahnaz@modelsntrends.com for all your beauty queries. nail art Aashmeen Munjal

The quest towards beautification is no longer restricted to the skin and face only. Nail aesthetics using art forms is the latest rage amongst the fairer sex‌

A

rtistic creations on the nails of both hands and feet are a major draw. This fad is quite popular amongst young girls. This art provides them a chance to stand out and embody a style of their own in colleges, parties and other day to day occasions. Even school going teenage girls can sport colourful artistic nails, especially in summer vacations without having to worry about the school discipline.school discipline. Nail art is not a high priced fashion. You can even try this art at home. For this, a little practice is all that is required. 72

n

Models Trends JULY 2010

Try some colourful stripes on your nails. Mostly double colour or triple colour stripes on nails will make you look smart. You can even try polka dot patterns on your nails, which are very easy to make. Little practice will make you perfect. One can also try making geographical prints, hearts, flowers, leaves and abstract designs on the nails. You can also create your own designs, depending on how creative you want to be.

Nail art to try this summer

Summers are dreary, dull and sweaty. As such, you are left

with little choice to experiment with clothes and makeup. Thus, nail art is the best form with which you can express your creativity in summers and also add that extra dimension to your looks. Colourful nail art spices up the way you look and can make you feel glamorous, even on a sunny day when you sport a smile tee and denim shorts. Swarovski nail art is the hottest fad this season. Swarovski in different colours can be used to decorate the nails. It can be matched with the embroidery of the outfit being worn. Diamante, kundan or polka studded readymade nail jewellery is also the current trend. The hottest fashion in nail art is nail piercing, where a small ornament can be hung from the tip of the nail. For an elegant look, keep it simple with a french manicure (a style of manicure featuring white tips that are accentuated by a natural looking base). This trend works best for the professionals and executives females. To garnish any form of nail art, apply a coat of shimmer or glitter nail polish. It is ideal for those, who are not blessed with perfect nails. Try gel or acrylic nail extensions which last for long, even though their refilling has to be done periodically.

Nail tattoos are the simplest form of nail art to use. They immediately stick to your nails and look quite cool. Computerised nail art is also available in the salons nowadays. It enables the nail art procedure to be done by a computer and printer. You can even print your own picture on your nails. Gothic nail art is also popular amongst teenaged girls, who have an adventurous streak. Darker shades are used in this art, where black is the most common colour. Dark blue, navy blue, deep green and dark purple are popular as the base code. Nowadays, the gothic designs chosen over these are primarily christian cross, axe, skull, sword and other abstract weapon designs. If you adore sophisticated designs, then go for floral nail art. Such nail art is done using natural spring colours like baby pink, rose red, fuchsia pink, coral blue, misty green with myriad designs. You can either use simple petals of a flower, a bud or bunch of buds, or different flower replicas like rose, sunflower or lotus. For an unconventional look, you can also try abstract tulips and lilies, which are a rage these days. Add a diamante or Swarovski at the centre bud of the flower to give it a jewelled look. This type of art can complement a plain dress or even a floral dress. Alternatively, there is a technique called permanent nail art, where the designs are engraved and embossed by laser cutting on an extension nail. After making the desired design, this extension nail is pasted on the original nail.

Taking care of nails:

Like any other form of art, nail art too needs to be relished. It is important that proper care of nails be taken since negligence can disrupt the beauty of this delicate form of art. While doing household chores using water and chemical detergents, wear rubber gloves to preserve the nail art. Maintaining the nail art requires care just like the delicate forms of jewellery, silk etc. For preservation of nail art, you should use liquid nail art fixture or nail cellophane coating, which helps laminate your nail and in turn protects the nail art.

How is Shazahn by nature, romantic, naughty, extrovert, introvert or rationalist? I am a fun loving person, who is sometimes emotional too. How do you feel being the brand ambassador for Skechers in India? It is really incredible. I have been wearing Skechers shoes for a very long time now. For me, it is fresh, young and fashionable. I am excited and amazed to be associated with a brand that my favourite Hollywood celebrities are part of. You recently walked the ramp in fashion shows. How do you consider modelling as a profession? I have only walked the ramp as a showstopper for some eminent fashion designers. Modelling was a stepping stone for me to enter films. I have done eight commercials with the best brands in the country and internationally. The modelling industry in India is flourishing but my heart lies in films.

Cute and bubbly Shazahn Padamsee marked her presence on the silver screen with her debut in Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year by Yash Raj Films, opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Nowadays, this dashing damsel is busy dazzling the fashion world with her charismatic presence. Here Shazahn reveals more‌

Why did you decide to join the Bollywood industry? I was very shy as a teenager but was always interested in acting. I have seen my dad working on so many plays and my mom performing so many characters in theatre that I realised acting and movies was a vital part of my life. I produced and acted in my own play 'Unspoken Dialogues’ three years ago, paving the way for modelling and then movies. Did your parents help you in Bollywood? Not at all. I knew that I do not have a filmy background. I attended many auditions and worked hard for myself. Although my mother and father did make a few calls but at the end of the day, I had to showcase my talent. I wanted to be launched with an 'A' grade film. Fortunately, I got Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year, which is a very special film for me. What has been your experience with the industry and its people? It has been a great pleasure to work with everyone in the industry. The entire Yashraj team, Ranbir, my director Shimit and also all the people whom I interacted with when I was in the modelling profession, have been great. I have made lots of new friends, which is one of the best part of my working experience. I believe that controversy is part and parcel of this profession but we have to accept it. I respect my parents a lot and share everything with them. They are like my friends and always know the truth.

Are you also planning to be a contestant in any reality show? Not really. Currently, I am only concentrating on movies. What is love, romance and marriage to you? What kind of person would you like to marry and what about your work after marriage? It is too early for me to say something about love, before or after marriage. Love is very precious to me. In a relationship, I would prime most like us to be best friends first. I would like to marry someone, who understands and loves me enough to let me continue with my work after marriage. William Shakespeare’s poetic lines, ‘But love is blind, and lovers cannot see; the pretty follies that themselves commit’, are appropriate in context of the Bollywood actresses, who have managed to entangle married men and have been successful in tying the sacred knot. From the ‘dream girl’ Hema Malini to recently married yogini Shilpa Shetty, one thing is for sure that married men are ‘hotcakes’ for the hotties of tinsel town. However, the reasons for such marital relationships remain sacred between two individuals and the complexities are difficult to comprehend. Here are some of the famous jodis, who have time and again made the media headlines with their koochie koo’s…

Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar

Hema Malini and Dharmendra

Sensational Hema Malini from the south was thoroughly bowled over by the desi jaat paaji Dharmendra from north, who was married to Prakash Kaur at that time and already had children. The couple fell in love on the sets of blockbuster Sholay. And, this was here to stay inspite of paaji’s many widely talked escapades in that era, including the gorgeous Meena Kumari.

This leading lady of parallel cinema and daughter of renowned poet Kaifi Azmi was earlier charmed by the internationally acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur but somehow this love story did not take off. Later, Shabana got lucky as she wooed the famous Bollywood scriptwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who was already married to Honey Irani and had children from her.

Sridevi and Boney Kapoor

This Roop ki Rani shocked everyone in the industry when she married actor Anil Kapoor’s elder brother and film producer Boney Kapoor, who was already married and had two children. Sridevi was earlier rumoured to have had affairs with co-stars ‘Jumping Jack’ Jeetendra and Anil Kapoor, who were married at that time. However, it was Boney, who finally wrapped it up.

Amrita Arora and Shakeel Ladakh

Sizzling babe Amrita Arora is more known as the sister of sensuous Malika Arora Khan. Amrita’s journey towards fame was a roller coaster ride and so was her love life. She was romantically linked to Kevin Otter, Upen Patel and Ashmit Patel. However, bidding goodbye to all her previous relationships, she finally tied the knot to divorced businessman Shakeel Ladakh.

Page 82 - 83:Layout 1

6/12/2010

5:09 PM

Page 83

K arishma K apoor and Sanjay K apur

The hot blue eyed babe of legendary Kapoor khandaan of Bollywood rocked the industry, inspite of her father disapproving of her acting career. She was romantically involved with Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Bachchan. She had even announced her engagement with Jr. B but soon it was called off. Later, she entered into wedlock with married and divorced industrialist Sanjay Kapur. Their subsequent altercation after their marriage was buzzed in the media but subsequently, it seems they did patch up.

Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani

Actress Raveena Tandon had entered the industry with great fervour but after receiving lukewarm response, soon she turned towards more serious roles in parallel cinema, which helped her to win the ‘National Film Award’ for best actress. Just like her movies, her personal relationship too remained fruitless and despite of a much talked about romance with actor Akshay Kumar, she finally got married to film distributor Anil Thadani.

Mahima Chaudhary and Bobby Mukherjee

After winning the ‘Miss Darjeeling’ crown in a local beauty pageant, Mahima Chaudhary aka Ritu Chaudhry set upon her journey towards glamour. Thanks to Bollywood showman Subhash Ghai, who provided her a chance to taste the success in the industry with his movie Pardesh. It was godfather Ghai, who changed her name and later tried to control her career and life but in vain. Though Mahima got attached to tennis star Leander Paes, yet she wed architect Bobby Mukherjee, who was earlier married with two kids.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra

The curvaceous beauty Shilpa Shetty had a great stint with her movies. However, it was her captivating smile and troublesome deeds that made her a darling of the media. Shetty was notoriously famous for dating Akshay Kumar and later film director Anubhav Sinha. However, in November 2009, she married businessman Raj Kundra, who had been married and divorced. As per Shilpa’s statement, she had made it clear to Raj that their relationship could go no further than friendship until he actually went through his divorce.

Well, this fascination of Bollywood babes for married men is going to continue and no doubt, the list will add more romantic angles in future too.

Oomph!

The fashion statement Whether it is the snowy storms that give way to thousands of crystal drops or whether it is the icy winters. When green fields rejuvenate their colour and the weather forecast suggests shelter from dancing drizzle, we then gear up to face the strongest gusts of wind and rain with our vital accessory, an umbrella. Today, it is chic; it is comfy; it is compact and it is trendy, to have one anytime! So, this season, calls for the ‘Parasols’ in style...

Since when?

Thanks to the creative intellect of the Europeans and the Chinese for coming up with this wonderful creation long before the 16th century. They crafted it with wood and submerged it in various beliefs and myths. Surprisingly, the early religious thoughts symbolise umbrella with fertility and harvest, death and rebirth. It was carried as a sign of royalty, as is transcripted by great historians.

Shadow on fashion

Until 1600, the use of umbrellas was confined to the women folk only. Later on, Romans started using the umbrella to protect themselves from the sun. It was during this era that the umbrellas got catalogued in fashion. In the 17th century, men revitalised its existence and since then, the globe has been basking in the cosy shadow of this umbrella.

Page 84 - 85:Layout 1

6/12/2010

5:14 PM

Page 85

By 1800, the umbrella redefined its identity with its sister creation, ‘parasol’ and fixed its cushy place in the world of luxury. Parasols gradually began to be addressed as a light and an elegant tool, constantly changing in style and colour, whereas, the umbrella was only considered as a protective mask, neglecting its refinement in terms of a fashion accessory. The charismatic lifestyle, finally led the basic use of umbrellas and parasols to gain prominence in the contemporary fashion world of today.

Let’s be choosy to choose

International brands of parasols are now ornamenting the style statements of the fashion conscious. Exclusive and elegant designs of this modern canopy are consistently creating waves and a fashionistas’ eyes are continuously hunting for more chic styles and designs. They are now fabricated with beauty and categorised in order to satisfy the perspective consumers’ taste, status and excellence. Be it ‘Midnight Blue’ or ‘Pink Kiss’ (international brands of parasols), the sexy curves and colours are complimenting the airy designs and creating magic all year round.

It’s here ...it’s everywhere…

Be it the Indian film industry or the advertisng world, this age-old shelter is mesmerising everyone by its appearance. These man-made mushrooms have sprouted the fabulous waft of romance through the famous Bollywood movie, Shri 420 . Who can forget the on-screen chemistry between the romantic jodi of Raj Kapoor and Nargis, romancing under the black umbrella in a downpour, which has left an indelible mark in the history of romantic scenes. This umbrella bitten formula was further tested conspicuously on many reel lovebirds in movies such as 1942 Love Story, Kareeb, Saawariya and the list goes on. Many soulful or romantic scenes and even films such as Blue Umbrella owe their success to the magic of umbrellas. Lets face it, an umbrella is larger than life, be it a fantasy or a cosy moment of togetherness in the majestic rains, umbrellas have a charm of their own. So splash each rain drop and sing, ‘Rain, rain, come today, we can’t wait for another day’.

The footsie fetish Trendy custom made footwear is the ultimate luxury for a fashion aficionado. Couturist Anil Sarin discerns on what makes custom made footwear so special. He is driven by his passion to carve that special feel around your feet.

O

ne reason why people go in for custom made footwear is because of proper fit and comfort. Feet of any individual are different from all other feet. Even both feet of an individual are not alike and are also slightly different in size and shape.

For economies of scale, the manufacturers cluster footwear into a minimal range of sizes. In English and American sizing, the gradation in length between sizes is 8.5 mm. and in European sizing, it is 6.7 mm. Indian manufacturers usually make footwear in a single width for each size. As a result, the standardised

factory made footwear may suit only about half the population. Buying shoes abroad has additional sizing issues. Most Indians spend considerable time bare feet or in open sandals, resulting in splayed feet and a higher ratio of forefoot width to heel width. Factory made footwear for European and American feet is often not a good fit for Indian feet. Fitting is also important for high heeled sandals, as these tend to push the foot forward and exert pressure against the straps. Loose straps let the foot slide forward, extending the toes beyond the front

Page 88 - 89:Layout 1

6/12/2010

5:53 PM

Page 89

edge of the sandal. Overhanging toes not only look unattractive, but also are prone to injury. Tighter straps bite into the feet and make it uncomfortable to wear the heels for a long period of time.

The other reason for custom made footwear is the desire for differentiation and individuality. You can have your shoes made exactly the way you desire; the style, the colour, the leather, the embellishments and the heel height. If you like a particular shoe or a sandal, your couture shoemaker can make the shoe of a similar design and can also change the specifications as per your requirements. For example, the heel height in some stilettos has reached five inches, which can be reduced as per comfort in hand crafted shoes.

The process of custom making footwear

The process of making customised footwear begins with a discussion of your requirements and the use of the footwear (office, evening wear, formal or casual wear). Then comes an accurate measurement of the feet. The shoemaker will take a print of the sole of your feet, measure the length, the width, the girth at the joint, waist of the foot and the arch. These measurements are used to make your customised mould (also called as ‘last’). There has to be a separate ‘last’ for each toe shape and heel height. The shoemaker sometimes makes a ‘fitter’ (a rudimentary shoe of inexpensive leather) to be tried on by you to check the fit of the 'last'. Pattern for the shoe is now made and the leather, as approved, is cut according to the pattern. The cut leather is sewn together into an ‘upper’. These stages of shoe crafting are called ‘closing’. The upper is moulded around the last and allowed to rest for a few days to take the shape of the last

permanently. The soles are then attached. These stages are called ‘making’. Many times the closer and the maker are separate individuals working together to make the footwear.

Changing trends

In the past, Indian women wore mostly saris, where the feet were covered and the footwear was relatively unimportant. Custom made footwear was made by shoemakers, who were often of Chinese origin. These Chinese shoemakers made good shoes but these were seldom at the leading edge of design and fashion. Today, the Indian woman is dressing in clothing of varied styles. Hence, footwear is perhaps the most important accessory required. Fortunately, there is also a new generation of custom shoemakers, some of them trained at footwear or fashion institutes combining both the technical knowledge and the flair for fashion. Others have migrated into custom shoemaking, attracted by the design and style possibilities and the satisfaction of crafting a unique creation. So, how much time does it take and how much does it cost? Making custom made footwear usually takes at least three weeks but may take even longer depending on the backlog of the shoemaker. The cost of customised footwear is more as moulds and patterns for each customer has to be made separately. As a rule of thumb, this footwear costs nearly three times as the factory made footwear of similar materials. Give custom made shoes a try and you may never return to factory made shoes again.

Actor Brad Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston has become conscious of her growing age. The 41 years old actress is busy shedding weight. For this, instead of hitting the gym, she is following a special diet plan, which is recommended by Madonna's former personal trainer. However, Jennifer denied reports about her dieting but the fact is that she is very much intimidated by actress and model Brooklyn Decker, who is just 23 years old and is the wife of tennis champion Andy Roddick. Brooklyn Decker is shooting with her in a movie and everybody speaks high about her sexy and slim figure on the set. Jealousy thy name is woman. Queer, queer!!!

Arshad in agony

It seems that actor Arshad Warsi’s stars are not favouring him. First, his home production movie didn’t do well at the box office. Later the actor got a notice from The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) for smoking in an educational institution and now he and his wife Maria are reportedly set to part ways. The couple has finally decided to call it quits and move in different directions. Arshad has left his home and is nowadays living in an apartment, far away from his home. The reason of their separation is his reported romantic involvement with actress Diya Mirza. Well, it takes one woman to be behind the success of a man and two it takes for his slaughter!

Defamed actor Shiney Ahuja is on the look out for a second innings in the film industry. Many producers are willing to lend him a hand but alas, our Bollywood damsels still remain petrified of him. Therefore, as soon as the news spread about the infamous actor being cast in a fresh flick, actress Vaishali Desai immediately backed out of the project. Sources revealed that she had backed out, as she was earlier told that the lead actor would be Adhyayan Suman. However, this news of Shiney Ahuja being cast was a shock to her. Now the producer is contacting other actresses for the role. Poor Shiney’s past is now haunting his present. That’s why this one time eye candy is now like an eyesore. Truly said ‘once a thief, always a thief’.

Banderas the brainy

Earlier, Antonio Banderas refused to launch his own collection of fragrances until the fragrance company’s bosses agreed to combine his passion for charity in every step of the perfumes' promotion. The star became one of the first celebrity perfumers in the mid1990’s, when he signed a deal with ‘Puig’, a leader in perfumes and cosmetics industry. To his surprise, the company has now agreed to his terms and thus, he is ready to launch his seventh men's fragrance this summer. Banderas is also negotiating with many giant companies to promote his new fragrance and his charities simultaneously. Bravo to him, for killing two birds with one stone.

Scarlett – a mixture of body and song

After a hectic schedule, gorgeous Scarlett Johansson is busy shaping her body by hitting the gym every day. The actress and singer has also revealed that her third album is on the cards. The sensational beauty insisted that she is fond of music therefore would love to do another album. The 25 years old beauty’s previous albums received mixed response from the critics. Even after the release of her first album, magazine Rolling Stone commented that her “voice is unremarkable and her pitch is sometimes unsteady.” Meanwhile, the sensational beauty has shelved such comments now and says that this ruckus does not trouble her anymore and she is determined to create music of her own. Copying is not just her style. Well, isn’t that original? Hear, hear!!!.

Bruce Willis plays foul

Veteran actor Bruce Willis often acts the hard guy on screen, who fights for justice. However, this time the actor has been unjust with a company selling magnificent carpets. This Los Angeles based company ‘Mansour’ has filled a lawsuit against Bruce for damaging a costly handmade wool and silk carpet, which was picked up by his interior designer from the store without paying for it. According to the company, the carpet on delivery was in good condition but now the actor has not only altered the carpet by few inches but has also spoiled it by dropping red wine on it. However, Bruce’s lawyer claimed that the carpet was delivered on a trial basis. The rug is neither damaged nor dirty, but still his client has offered to clean it. A fire without smoke kya ? Strange but true!

Mysterious ways of SRK

Shahrukh Khan was earlier in the fray with Salman, then Farah and now Ritesh Deshmukh. Actually, Ritesh was the first choice for the villain role in SRK home production’s new movie, but finally Arjun Rampal got the chance. This has hurt Ritesh and now SRK and Ritesh are not on talking terms. Anyhow, this sudden shift of Shahrukh towards Arjun might have some luck factor involved, so says the superstitious industry. Everybody knows that in his blockbuster Om Shanti Om, Arjun played the villain and the movie was a big hit at the box office. Maybe king Khan would like to repeat the winning combination for commercial reasons. Well, God moves in mysterious ways and so do our Bollywood stars

Deepika’s punctuality

Bollywood stars are famous for their late latifi on the sets. However, for Deepika Padukone it is merely a myth and the lovely lady recently proved it by getting ready early in the morning, for her movie shoot in Mauritius. She reported on the sets at an early 6 a.m. with complete makeup. According to the latest reports, the actress got up sharp by 4 a.m. for the shoot. For Deepika, it is a normal thing in her life. Now, hearing about Bollywood stars and their hectic lifestyles, this bit of news is surely weird. We wonder what has made Ms. Padukone so punctual. Well, obviously how can she sleep so peacefully, inspite of her continued flop films and rising popularity of rival actresses.

I Hate Luv Storys Love happens in strange ways

Inspite of the lukewarm response to his recent movies, director and producer Karan Johar hasn’t given up. This time he has handed over the reign of this romantic comedy to debutant director Punit Malhotra, who is the nephew of stars’ favourite fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Punit has earlier worked as an assistant director in Paheli and Kal Ho Naa Ho movies. But, of course, Manish Malhotra will design the costumes for the film. The movie is a love triangle amongst a film director, his assistant director and production designer, played by actor Sameer Dattani, Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor, respectively.

Paan Singh Tomar A tale of destiny

Imagine a day in your life when you relentlessly search new ways of eliminating the pangs of hunger and poverty. This was the turning point of a talented runner turned dacoit Paan Singh Tomar, whose life is painstakingly filmed by director Tigmanshu Dhulia in this crime story of UTV Motion Pictures. Actor Irrfan Khan is the protagonist of the movie, who trained himself rigorously to prepare for this role. He has attributed the movie as the ‘most physically and mentally demanding film’ of his career. The movie has been filmed in Rajasthan and in the same barracks, where Paan Singh Tomar used to actually live in.

Starring Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer and Monica Bellucci, the movie is based on 1890’s symphonic poem by Paul Dukas and 1797’s ballad, written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The Expendables Action unlimites

Legendary actor Sylvester Stallone is still not in a mood to say good-bye to his filmy career. The 63 years old veteran hunk is the director and writer of this hard hitting action thriller. Starring Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin and Mickey Rourke, the story revolves around a group of mercenaries, who are hired to infiltrate a country to overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men find themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. During the shooting of this action packed movie, Stallone even broke his neck, which required a metal plate to be inserted. A must watch for Sly’s fans.

Takers

A cat and mouse game

This crime story revolves around a notorious group of criminals, who continue to baffle the police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies, without leaving a clue. However, when they attempt this one last job, which has more money at stake than ever before, the crew find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective, who is hell-bent on pursuing them. How they ditch him and prolong their escape, will be interesting to observe. Director John Luessenhop has strikingly directed stars like Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Idris Elba and Jay Hernandez in this nail biting thriller.

Director Phillip Noyce has earned accolades for his notable movies such as Dead Calm, Clear and Present Danger, Rabbit-Proof Fence and The Quiet American, to name a few. With this action thriller, the Australian director has once again adopted his favourite genre to create an edgy atmosphere for the audience. Starring Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber, the movie narrates the story of a female spy, who is on the run to prove her loyalty and to unmask the real culprit. As per reports, earlier actor Tom Cruise was being approached for the lead role, which was later performed by Jolie. How the effervescent lady fits the bill, should be interesting to watch.
