Fall is a time for long sleeves, hot drinks that smell great and pumpkin everything (and I mean everything). It’s also a time for change. As we transition from long and toasty summer days into another colorful fall, I’d like to share a few thoughts to both keep us all on track toward our priorities while also taking the time to stop and smell the pumpkin spice.

First, spend a little time thinking of the goals that you would like to continue making progress toward over the next couple of months. After doing this, consider what small tasks can be done to move closer to these goals each and every day. The main idea here is to be able to look back at a long string of successful days that build momentum toward your goals.

A great example could be if you would like to have less stress in your day-to-day life. Considering that gratitude is basically penicillin for the soul, our strategy to approach our goal of reducing stress could be to practice gratitude each day via journaling or simply reflection.

Set aside a few moments each day to

reflect upon something that means a lot to you. Try not to get stuck on the same things every day. Really put some thought into this so that you can begin to cultivate a habit of looking for things to appreciate.

Remembering the ever-changing nature of things can help here. You’ll never have the same cup of hot cocoa again or feel the warmth of the same campfire again. If you’re fortunate enough to be experiencing these things with a little one, remember that they won’t be so little forever. Autumn is full of opportunities to feel and express appreciation for the things and people in your life that you love, and who are certainly fortunate to have you in their life as well.

We may not always know what change the future may bring, and that’s okay. Do what you can to deserve good things before they happen but also remember to be grateful for the beautiful things in your life now. For our part, we appreciate you, Reader. Thank you for being a part of this journey, and here’s to many more. (More what?) Take care of each other!
