The Aquinas Institute ofRochester'is a Catholic, coeducational high school that has been a Rochester, NY tradition since 1902. The mission of the Aquinas Boxing Program is to provide a positive influence in the physical and emotional development of each student participating in the program. History has it that the program began 73 years ago as a result of two students fighting on school grounds. A priest stopped the fight and had the two boys come after school and settle it in the ring. They did, and the students who showed up to watch paid 5 cents each, which went to Catholic missions. Today, the program raises between $4,000 to $,5,000 for Basilian F:.~ther :Nlissions in Mexico and Columbia.

The Aquinas program is run by Dom Arioli , Joe Inclema, and Chris Schwab.
Chacigo Leo Leo is a Catholic, all boys high school located on the south side of Chicago. It was founded in 1926 by the Irish Christian Brothers. Current enrolment is 350 Students. Leo competes in the Chicago Catholic League. It used to be known primarily as a football school, but now has a strong tradition in many areas including basketball and track. The President is Robert Foster (Leo 1958 Graduate) Coach Mike Joyce (1986 Leo Grad) s tatted the Leo boxing program to give students an opportunity to learn amateur boxing while representing their school. Leo has had boxers compete on the high school level and in community shows. Coaches: Eddie Perkins- World Junior Welterweight Champion 1963-67; Luther Rawlings #1 ranked lightweight 155; Herman Mills 78 years old European Theatre Champion U.S. Army WWII.over 150 Pro Fights;

Cincinnati has a strong tradition in amateur boxing so it is no surprise that students from all over our dty are learning the sp::>tt of Olympic-style ooxing.

The ooxing program started at Moeller High School in 1996 vvith 5 athletes and has since grovvn to 50 l:x:>xers from 5 different high schools.

The objective is to provide a safe ~mel orgmized forum fron1 which to leatn Olympic-style ooxing. The boxing season statts in mid-November ::mel culrninates with the Cincinnati Golden Gloves Tourruunent in April. We have had boxers who have competed in an1ateur bouts aroLmd the state ::mel at the Golden Gloves tourrurunent on the novice level.
