Traditional Greater Catholic League South powers St Xavier and Moeller head this year's Division I preseason boys' golf coaches' poll. But the Bombers, third at state last season behind runner-up Moeller, are the overwhehning choice as the area's top team. Seeing as the three seniors have found themselves in this situation three years in a row, it's easy to understand the confidence they have in their abilities. "I think we have one of the best teams in the state,"said Gusweiler of Loveland. "We ha\'e as much depth as anyone else does." Joining the three seniors in the Crusaders top five are cousins Mark and Matt Reinhold. The two Sycamore Tmvnship juniors posted team-best scores of 74 and 75 in the district tournament. Head coach Rick Bohne says that now with the pressure of advancing to the state tournament is gone his team can relax and play its game. "I think once you've gotten to state as an underclassmen, vou always want to get back," Bohne said. "Now that they are there'they can go out and have fun." The state tournament will take place Friday and Saturday at Foxfire golf course in Columbus. The Crusaders played in a tournament at Foxfire twu weeks ago, placing fourth and adding to its confidence. ·~ of tl:e good teams were playing there," Gusweiler said of the tournament at Foxfire. "We finished fourth and we were right there the whole time. The Crusaders figure to be in a tight race lvith St. Xavier, which finished first in the district tournament, Upper Arlington, and Dublin-Jerome. Gu!-.weiler knows that this team has an opportunity to bring the state title back to Moeller if it plays to its capability. "We need to just keep the ball in play and not make any mental mistakes," Gusweiler said. Andrew Mock made the turn at Weatherwax, the site of the Division I district golf tournament Wednesday, at even par. Over the next nine holes, Mock required only nine putts and recorded five birdies on the way to a new Southwest District individual round record, a five-under-par, 67. Leading by three strokes over Moeller after the front nine, St. Xavier - led by Mock's charge over the final nine holes - buried the competition and set a team district record with a final score of 290, 14 strokes better than runner-up, Moeller. "Last year we won by 15 (strokes) and that definitely set the bar for this year and I think we did pretty good," said Mock, a senior and third~year player. Mock earned the medalist award ahead of defending district medalist and teammate Alex Martin, a senior who shot a 1-under 71 to finish as runnerup. "I was kind of in shock until I got

Seeing as the three seniors have found themselves in this situation three years in a row, it's easy to understand the confidence they have in their abilities. "I think we have one of the best teams in the state,"said Gusweiler, of Loveland. "We have as much depth as anyone else does." Joining the three seniors in the Crusaders top five are cousins Mark and Matt Reinhold.
