e opened the doors to the 2019-2020 school year with the completion of Classroom 2.0, a newly renovated chapel and upgraded restrooms in the main building. Enrollment remains strong, and our Mission – Catholic. Marianist. Forming our Students into Remarkable Men. – remains at the forefront of all we do here at Moeller. That’s a testament to the commitment and support of our financial donors, our volunteers and our faculty and staff. It hasn’t always been easy. We’ve had to adjust our processes and make difficult decisions. We’ve asked more from our supporters than ever. But the result of all that effort is undeniable. Moeller High School continues to be the leader in educating young men and will continue a path of continuous improvement for the Men of Moeller. The driving force is a strategic plan that encompasses everything from academics to alumni to technology and faith. I am proud to report that 27 of the 34 strategic plan objectives have been completed, and a plan is in place to complete the remaining strategic solutions.

Throughout this journey of change and growth toward the future, one thing has become very apparent. The Moeller Family has and will always be the backbone of this school. Giving Back in a

Meaningful Way

onna Rice has been giving of her time to Moeller High School since 2010 when her oldest son was a freshmen. Ten years later and Donna is still generously supporting the school she loves.

Donna started out by getting involved in the Moeller Moms’ Club as well as volunteering at her son’s games. Over the years, she has provided and served food, planned events and served as the team photographer. These days, Donna is an integral part of the Fashion Show and Main Event, two of Moeller’s biggest fundraisers. “I believe in the school, the boys and the legacy,” Donna explains as her reason for continuing to volunteer her time even after her boys have graduated. She wants other young men to experience what her boys did. Donna and James Rice have two sons, Collin ’14 and Conner ’17. Like his wife, James has been devoting his time to Moeller for the last 10 years running the Junior Crusaders program.

That feeling was evident again when attending Conner’s lacrosse game in 2016 when a near tragedy struck a Centerville player. As some worked to save the boy, Moeller players and families surrounded Centerville players to pray. The outcome was a positive one, and that moment of togetherness stayed with both teams well after that game. They went on to celebrate one another’s games and graduations.

Coming from public schools, they were excited to be a part of the Moeller Family. Donna shares a significant point in time when she realized exactly what that Moeller Family meant. Attending an event, she was asked by a coach how she was doing. She immediately responded with updates

“These four years become so much more meaningful to your family, particularly when you see the impact that your investment makes on the students of Moeller High School.” With Donna’s help and that of countless other volunteers, the Fashion Show and Main Event have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for tuition assistance. “I am proud to be a part of it and all that we do for Moeller.” When Moeller High School asks for donations, they aren’t just asking for money to invest in themselves; what they are really asking for is an investment in students’ lives, students who are currently in the same position you or your son who attended Moeller once were. It doesn’t even have to be a big amount to be a quality donation; it’s about giving back what you can, when you can for a mission that speaks to your heart. That gift will make a difference in someone’s life. Join Donna Rice and others who make a difference at Moeller. Charitable Giving Through the generosity of alumni, parents and friends, Archbishop Moeller High School is able to provide a quality Catholic education in the Marianist tradition to all of our students each year. There are many ways to make a gift to Moeller. Regardless of the method of giving you choose, please know that your gift is greatly appreciated. Every dollar you give directly impacts the educational experience provided to the students at Archbishop Moeller High School.

Gifts for Current Programs Cash Gifts: Moeller accepts gifts made with cash or a debit/credit card. Gifts of Stocks or Bond: Making a gift with shares of stocks or bonds is a wonderful way to support our Mission and helps the donor avoid paying capital gains tax on the shares of stock used to make this gift. IRA Charitable Rollover: Gifts can be made directly to Moeller from your annual IRA distribution. Matching Gifts: Please check with your company’s human resources department to see if they will match your gift to Moeller – it’s a great way to increase the impact of your gift!

Gifts Planned for the Future There are many ways to support Moeller’s Mission of through your estate: Bequest: A bequest is a gift made by a provision in your will or trust naming Archbishop Moeller High School as 12 • ARCHBISHOP MOELLER HIGH SCHOOL | ANNUAL REPORT 2019

beneficiary. You can also include Moeller as a beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy, an IRA or other retirement plan. Charitable Gift Annuity: This gift allows the donor to receive income for his/her lifetime and qualify for a charitable tax deduction. Funding this type of gift with appreciated assets also allows the donor to avoid capital gains taxes on those appreciated assets. Charitable Remainder Trust: This form of support transfers assets to a trustee, who in turn manages the trust and pays an income back to the donor for life or for a specific time. When the trust terminates, the remainder passes to Moeller. Key benefits to the donor may include an income tax deduction, the avoidance of capital gains tax (when appreciated securities are used), as well as an estate tax reduction. Life Insurance: This gift names Archbishop Moeller High School as a beneficiary of an existing policy, or creates a new policy that names Archbishop Moeller High School as the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy – and the premiums may be a tax deductible gift.

The results are in and Moeller alumni answered the challenge. With your generosity, we raised enough to provide 20 scholarships to assist young men who demonstrated financial need. In addition to the financial impact, overall alumni engagement increased as well. In fact, alumni donors increased by 331 for Fiscal Year 2019, a 29% increase, along with overall participation increasing from 8% to 12%.

n March of 2019, the Alumni Association and Advancement Team worked together to launch a class challenge campaign that built on the pride of our alumni community and the competitive spirit of each class and the respective decades represented from the 1960s-2010s.

It is one of the most important things we do as alumni - making sure that other young men can have the education that we received

Each of these decade winners will be hosted by the Alumni Association at a football tailgate on November 2 at 12:00 p.m , Moeller vs. Canada Prep Academy, at the Moeller High School backfields.

We are launching a yearlong campaign to build on the momentum created from this year’s challenge. Be on the lookout – lots of plans to get our alumni back home and engaged in our beloved Moeller High School.

he Hartman Family has been a part of Moeller for almost 40 years. Fred and Patricia Hartman, as parents of four sons, became involved in many aspects of the school and continue to support the mission of Moeller High School for the future Men of Moeller.

Reflecting on this lasting association they noted: “That’s a long time to validate our initial assessment that Moeller High School provides an environment where each student thrives as a ‘whole person’ in mind, body and spirit. This was an essential concept for us as parents and for our sons Chris ’84, Mike ’86, DJ ’94 and Nick ’96.” Parents of sons who were involved in many activities from athletics to leadership positions, they likewise actively participated in numerous events including fund raising projects for various school initiatives. These opportunities kept the whole family busy, but also offered a strong foundation for the future. “Our sons identify the long-term benefits of their Moeller experience as a viable, inclusive community sharing mutual trust and friendship with students from different areas; an interacting faculty and staff that challenged while supporting academics, athletics, co-curricular programs; multiple opportunities to develop leadership, give back, problem solve real-life issues, and spark the drive to succeed.” The four brothers made a deliberate choice to seize what Moeller offered, honed it and continue to leverage every 46 • ARCHBISHOP MOELLER HIGH SCHOOL | ANNUAL REPORT 2019

Today the Hartman Family continues their involvement with Moeller through the Annual Fund and the Need Based Named Scholarship Program.
