Inspirational Moments

MINISTER SONJA PRICE-WARD

M

My name is Sonja Prince-Ward, I am a mother, wife, and minister. I love the Lord with all of my heart, and I love sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. I am a contributing author on a book project entitled Empowered to Win, and my inspirational word called “Morning Glory with Minister Sonja” can be heard every morning on the Gospel Time Machine, an internet radio station (www.gospeltimemachine.com). I knew God was going to have me share my incredible testimony about my battle with mental illness and medication management. For the first time in my life I speak candidly about what I call my deep dark secret. I share how God has miraculously changed my perspective when it comes to my condition and how I have been able to cope and thrive as a successful business owner, mother and wife. So many people who battle with Bipolar My dream is to help people who are suffering in silence to struggle to lead a normal life. But God understand that they are not alone. It is important for them has blessed me with a great job, a to see a success story and realize that no matter what the successful business, a loving husband enemy throws your way, you can overcome it and walk in and wonderful kids. I knew I had to Supernatural Favor. share my story of triumph. I faced many challenges along the way. n my chapter of Empowered to Win entitled “Supernatural I talk about being diagnosed at 13 and Favor”, I never name my particular illness because I want not wanting to take my medication people to relate it to whatever it is they are dealing with. I because it reminded me of how want my testimony to help others become free. different I was. I recall hiding this secret and feeling so much shame. I knew that God was going to have me share my incredible I battled with bouts of depression at an testimony and all my life I have been told, you need to early age and then more recently the write a book. When Reverend Allison Daniels approached incredible highs associated with this me to be a part of her Anthology, I knew this was my illness. opportunity to share my story. 6

It is indescribable to explain the roller coaster of emotions someone with Bipolar experiences. Despite many hospitalizations, I finished high school with honors and received a full four-year scholarship to my University of choice. Despite it all, I still managed to excel in my Federal career, and become a successful entrepreneur. My mother and I own and operate four Assisted Living Facilities in Maryland and I recently was honored for over 25 years in the Federal ln Government. My biggest challenge was having children. I always wanted to be a wife and a mother. When I got pregnant with my daughters, I had to stop taking my medication and this can be extremely dangerous for a person with Bipolar. Being able to raise 2 healthy girls, who are well rounded, and exceptional students is definitely my biggest accomplishment. My illness would often get in the way of my romantic relationships and I found myself being a single Mom and raising my girls without their fathers. I always had a wonderful Village who continue to help me today. In 2015 God blessed me with the perfect husband and I often share my testimony of how we dated 20 years ago and broke up and reconnected like no time had ever lapsed.

Being a wife and a mother is by far my greatest joy. .My mother and I own and operate four Assisted Living Facilities in Maryland and I recently was honored for over 25 years in the Federal Government. Being a wife and a mother is by far my greatest joy. My biggest inspiration is my desire to be in Gods perfect and holy will for my life. It is so important to me that He be pleased with everything I say and do. Becoming a Minister and being able to teach God’s word in a way that anyone can understand and relate, is the most important thing to me. I am also inspired by my children.

I want them to have a healthy Mon that they are proud to call their own. When I went through my last episode, I remember the hurt I saw on my youngest daughter’s face when I had to be hospitalized. She asked me to sleep in her bed one night and she told me I was her best friend. I am sure that may have changed by now, but I will never forget that conversation. I want to be her best friend and in order to be that best friend I have to be my best self. That means managing my medication effectively and doing what I need to do stay healthy. I recall telling my husband, this is going to get rough. He grabbed my hand and told me we will get through this together. I love 2 Timothy 1:7, which says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” If you are afraid, know that fear is not of God, replace that fear with power, and love and move forward and tell your story. Someone is waiting for you to share your testimony so they can also be empowered. I love the title of our book. When I was afraid and anxious, I replaced that fear with power (I was empowered to write), and love (I have a love for God’s people and I want to see them win) and a sound mind (I knew that God did not deliver me, just for me). I was empowered to win and I knew my story would help someone else. 7

18 FAITH, FAMILY, FINANCE BY MONICA SMITH FINANCIAL CONSULTANT FIRST FINANCIAL SECURITY

wo are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. For if either falls, his companion can lift him up. If someone overpowers one person, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). This verse is the foundation for The Cord of Three Strands which symbolizes the joining of one man and one woman by God in a marriage. Faith, Family and Finance can be symbolized by The Cord of Three Stands. We are stronger together than apart. I believe Family is Everything! I had praying Grandmothers and I’m blessed to say I still have a praying Mother. I can truly say I was covered mentally, spiritually, physically and financially. My Father retired Lt. Colonel in the Air Force. He worked hard, obtained two Master’s Degrees, became a Real Estate investor and currently Pastors a church. My father is 12truly a Provider and a Problem Solver. He always told us that you can have whatever you want if you’re willing to work hard for it. Growing up, I didn’t bore him with my stories of heartbreak but if I needed real help, I could always count on him. As an adult, I realize how important it is to be “covered” by God and your family.

8

“Honour thy father and thy mother so that you will live a long time in the land that your God is going to give you“(Exodus 20:12). My Father joined the Air Force after college and sent an allotment to his parents from his paycheck. He did that for many years until his parents’ house was paid off. My Aunt Dot rolled Madea’s hair every night until my Grandmother was 90. Sidebar, Madea was not created by Tyler Perry, it’s a term of endearment short for “Mother Dear”. My Dad’s family lives in Pineville, Louisiana. On Sunday morning, my Grandmother Viola walked me and my brother to Sunlight Baptist Church. I remember they had Testimony Service before church started. My Grandmother would not hesitate to stand up and sing about Oh Great Jehovah. Only those who grew up in the South can remember the runs and melodies of our elders. MOGUL LEADERS MAGAZINE

She was the Matriarch of our family. A strong black woman who grew up working the land and loved to cook. When she gave you a hug, you felt it. I remember when it was time to go home, she would always tell me to Keep God first in my life and press some folded money in my hand. She deposited faith in me and never let me leave empty handed. My Granny Geneva (my mother’s mother) had a watchful eye. She watched people and she watched her finances. We went to visit my grandparents in the summer. They lived in San Antonio, Texas. My Grandfather worked for the Railroad. I remember they would get up early in the morning before sunrise. Ironically, my Grandfather’s name was Early Williams. They loved sitting outside on the patio, knew all their neighbors, enjoyed laughing and telling stories, they lived a good life.

My Granny and Grandpa were products of the Great Depression. They knew what it was like to go without. They kept a lot of canned goods and stocked the closet with necessary items, bath soap and Charmin for days. We enjoyed driving out to the country to get Bar-b-que like sausage and brisket from a place called Kruz. My Grandpa Early l oved to go to Dairy Queen for dessert. Those were the days! Enjoying the simple things in life with people who matter the most. I remember they lived in a modest home which was paid off. No debt. I share these stories because I’ve witnessed the power of Faith, Family and Finance. Every family is faced with challenges. If you live long enough, you may one day be covering those who covered you. Are you prepared to be a Caregiver? Have you learned about life insurance, living benefits and long- term care policies? Approximately 530,000 bankruptcies are filed annually because of debt due to a medical illness. www.mogulleadersmagazine.com | 9

What if you had to take off work or relocate to help a loved one? How much do you have saved? There is a lot to think about. The problem is we do not think ahead. We tend to live for today and not tomorrow. We must do a better job of teaching the next generation about managing finances and creating a legacy for our families. Proverbs 13:22 says “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children”. Our parents and their parents before them made sacrifices so that we could have better opportunities. We make more money, we have more education, we have more possibilities for ownership, yet we have not worked together as a family to build a legacy. What wisdom did we learn from your elders? What are we sowing and reaping? What are we pouring into our children? Do our kids know their history? Do they know their family tree? Do they know what it means to be a Washington, a Thomas, a Smith? Do they have a relationship with God? Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it”. If you’re not familiar with financial principles, visit your local library and start reading books on Personal Finance. There is so much information at your fingertips simply by using Google. We can no longer just get by financially, it’s time that we get ahead. Start having conversations with your children about the importance of saving, keeping a budget, building good credit, living within your means. Help them understand the importance of having a good work ethic and creating multiple streams of income. Start a home-based business and let them work in the family business. They need to know that it costs to be the boss. Independence is not free. Financial Literacy starts at home. Show them how to open their first checking account, a Roth IRA account and an emergency fund. You can’t push them out the nest before you teach them how to fly. God has a plan for you and your family. My question is do you have a financial plan for you and your family? Have you protected your family with a life insurance policy? Do you have living benefits that will take care of you if you were to get sick? Do you have one year of your income saved if you were to lose your job? Do you have a will to properly handle your assets? If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Talk to your family about your financial plan. Develop a Board of Directors by working with a trusted CPA, Attorney and Financial Advisor. Create a plan to protect family assets and pass the baton to the next generation. Trust and believe in Jeremiah 29:11 that says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future “ SPRING ISSUE | 10

OH DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING? By By Dr. Michelle Morrison, Apostle, Revivalist, Phd., Attorney, Author, Entrepreneur

In 2014 I was invited to India to hold some gospel revival crusades. The problem was, the pastor who invited me failed to mention that in the deep south where I went, conversion to Christianity is against the law and that terrorists could kill you there. Ministers can preach and pray but they can’t convert Hindus to Christianity there; Hindus can choose Christianity on their own though. I had no idea there were even terrorists in India! Well, the first night we held a gospel crusade and as I was about to give the altar call, the pastor said to me, “you can’t do that here - I will explain back at the hotel.”When we got back to the hotel, he proceeded to explain that conversion to Christianity is against the law and showed me an article online regarding a Caucasian evangelist and his son who were burned alive in that very same town for evangelizing. For the first time in my life I knew the MEANING of REAL FEAR.Fear gripped me so badly I could barely speak. But soon I allowed faith to arise, KNOWING that God had equipped me on how to pray and that it was not my time because I had a calling to preach the gospel throughout the world. Faith soon displaced fear. NOMADIC

When we got to the crusade the next day, many did not show up because of fear of terrorism. Apparently the terrorists wanted me dead. Terrorists wanted to kill me? WOW -- little ole me. Then the Indian government showed up as I was about to pray for a blind man -falsely accusing me of converting the people. I continued to pray and by faith, even with that threat looming, God opened the eyes of that blind man! To make a long story short, they ushered me out of there afterward and an Indian attorney was able to calm the government situation down. After that the crusades kept growing nightly -- one night the count was 5000.

I prayed for 50 people in NYC when corona first hit, and all but one were healed through the power of Jesus Christ. In addition, just last week I prayed by phone with a young lady who had a cist the size of a baseball and she called back to say the later doctor’s report showed it shrunk to the size of a pea! RANGE ROVER

A SNEAK PEEK

DR As the CEO of VOCALIZE Women Speakers Academy, my mission is to empower and equip women globally to boldly unleash the power of their voice in order to impact other people’s lives. Every woman has a unique story and unique life experiences that is connected to her legacy and her ability to help shift the trajectory of someone else’s life.

15

But her legacy is only created when she makes a decision to come from out of the shadows and to the front of the room in order to share the lessons that she has learned through her experiences. There is power in transferring the lessons we have learned to others who are currently experiencing a pain that we have already overcome. Our past painful experiences have great value because it can position us to create a ‘how to’ blueprint for others to follow for their own breakthrough. Over the past 11 years in my business, I have discovered that one of the biggest challenges that prevents women from coming out of the shadows to share their stories is FEAR – fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of inadequacy, fear of judgement, fear of the unfamiliar, and even fear of success. Fear stops women from going after what they truly desire; and makes them believe that their chances of success are so small that it’s worthless to even try.

16

Fears are deep-seated and are often subconscious, which can mean women are not always aware of what it is that’s holding them back.

All too often, fear Fear is a limiting influences women to stay quiet and invisible instead factor that of courageously giving voice distracts women to their knowledge, experiences and expertise and leads to and pursuing what they are fully capable of. excuses.

Some of the most common reasons why women allow fear to hold them hostage and prevent them from sharing their stories include: • Lack of confidence. Many women are riddled with self-doubt and self-limiting beliefs. They don’t believe in their own strengths and abilities and, therefore, lack the confidence to find share their stories from a place of power. • Feeling unqualified. Women are oftentimes their own worst critic and talk themselves out of sharing their stories because they don’t feel qualified. Feelings of ‘Imposter Syndrome’ settle in and prevent women from taking the ‘stage’ to speak their truth and give voice to their stories. • Comparison to others. Instead of being laser focused on the power of their own story and journey, some women waste valuable time comparing their story to others. They question whether or not their story is going to be received well by others and make massive impact. They often assume that if their story isn’t a story a tragic or traumatic story that it doesn’t hold value. As a part of my Academy, I teach women how to immobilize their fears about speaking and sharing their story and to treat fear as a cue to take action, not use it as an excuse.

17

* I teach them to reframe their internal dialogue and replace toxic thoughts like, “I can’t do it,” and “I’m not worthy enough,” with empowering thoughts like, “I have what it takes to do this,” and “I deserve to have my story heard.” * Some of the strategies and techniques I offer to help women give power to their voice includes the following: *Be Authentic. When you share your story, just be the real you. Don’t try TO sound, look or act like anyone else. You are enough just as you are. *Be Transparent. Share your “mess” and your “success” as a part of your story. Don’t try to omit the messy parts of your story. * Your message will come from your mess. Your mess is your connection with the audience. *Your success is your credibility with the audience. *Speak Your Truth. Don’t embellish and add untruths to your story. Let your story hold it’s own weight. Even with a story that is not tragic or traumatic, there will be someone who resonates with your truth. *Laser Focus On The Takeaway: It’s easy to get lost in your own details if you don’t laser focus on the main point or takeaway of your story. Ask yourself: Why am I sharing this story? Where am I leading them? What do I want the big take away to be? Remember, Your story is ABOUT you, but it’s not FOR you.

5 THINGS EVERY MOGUL MOM NEEDS by Charlotte E. Avery Photos by John Adams

A while ago, I had the opportunity to leave my family for a business trip. Unbeknownst to me, I was asked to be on a panel. The moderator of the panel asked me to tell a room full of people who I was and what I do. Like normal I said, “My name is Charlotte Avery. I am The Family Strategist™ with a Ph.D. in Motherhood. I rattled off a list of work accomplishments and other things that I do.

I closed with telling them that I am also the wife of one, mom of seven, and the owner of no pets.” The gasp, along with shock and awe from in the room was funny yet familiar. During the break a woman came up to me and asked, “Do you really have seven children? Are they all yours? What are their ages?” I answered all of her questions.

“I don’t balance, I blend”C. E. Avery

She was flabbergasted. Her next question is one that I am asked all of the time, “How do you do it all?” She told me about her two children, the work that she does, and her inability to manage it all. I affirmed that she is doing a great job. Yet, she was still waiting for me to give her the “secret sauce” to how I do it all.

Before I tell you the secret that I shared with her, I need every Mogul Mom reading this to be certain of one thing: You may be the mom of one or the mom of many; motherhood is motherhood. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, work at home mom, a mom that works outside the home, or a Mogul Mom; motherhood is motherhood. And as the quote says, “All mothers are working mothers.” Got it? Good! Now that we are clear on that, there are five things at every Mogul Mom needs: 1.Develop a strong support system Every Mogul Mom needs a strong support system.

MOGUL LEADERS MAGAZINE

Your support system should consist of family, friends, neighbors, church members, team parents, and people who you trust and are reliable. If you are not blessed to live close to family, find a local moms’ group or a family that you trust and swap turns watching each other’s children, date nights, etc. I strongly believe the relationship with your support system should be one that is reciprocal and not one-sided. You should be willing to lend support to those who support you and vice versa.I am not telling you what I heard, I’m telling what I live day in and day out.

The only way that I’ve been able to cultivate an amazing marriage, grow an incredible family, write books, show up for media appearances, grow a business and do a gazillion other things is because I practice what I preach. Never forget, no Mogul Mom is an island. Teamwork really does make the dream work. 1.Practice Self-care I once heard someone say, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” That is why every Mogul Mom should practice self-care. Meaning, you should allot some time during the day or the week that solely focusses on you taking care of you and no one else. Repeat after me, “My self-care is not selfish it is necessary.” I tell my clients that there are 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds in a day and 168 hours in a week. You owe it to yourself, the people who love you, and the customers that spend money with you to take care of yourself.

www.mogulleadersmagazine.com | 21

Spend 60 minutes at a coffee shop, get a massage, put a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and soak in the tub, go to the park a read a book, journal, have lunch or dinner with friends, or spend quiet time with your Creator. Your family and your clients are depending on you to be the best you can be. You cannot do that if you are not prioritizing yourself. Like you, I understand how busy life can get. I understand the ebbs and flows that come with growing a family and a business simultaneously. I feel you. And while I empathize with your plight, I can tell you that women with thriving families in conjunction with flourishing businesses understand the indisputable importance of self-care. As I tell many moms, “It is okay to sometimes say ‘no’ to “them” and say ‘yes’ to yourself without feeling guilty.”

was too small to carry the milk jug to the table, forgetting to take someone to practice, or the hole that was “accidently” put in the wall. The book of Charlotte chapter one verse one says, “If everyone is alive, no one is hurt, and the house is still standing…it’s not that serious.” 1.Seek help when you need it Repeat after me, “I am a great mom!” Every great mom needs to know two things: 1. There is no such thing as a perfect mother. It is okay to admire another woman/mom. Just remember, unless you are living her life, what you see is just a snippet of her journey and her truth and all of it ain’t pretty. 2. The word “help” is not a bad word and asking for help does not make you inadequate or incompetent. Knowing when to ask for help makes you a genius. Do you know how many moms there are in the world, on your block, or in your family? We are on this motherhood journey together. You don’t have go at motherhood or grow a business alone. God created us to need to be relational. We need Him and other people. Remember, “you have not because you ask not.” You are responsible for say what you need. No one can help you if you don’t ask.

1. Don’t take things so seriously There’s no doubt that motherhood is serious business and hard work. Anyone who says differently is lying. However, some things are more serious than others. As a mom, you have to be able to know when to be serious and when to just laugh things off. You have to be able to find the humor in burning dinner, forgetting to put a sandwich in the lunch box, a diaper explosion out in public, a whole gallon of milk spilling on the floor by your wanna-be independent 4-year-old who MOGUL LEADERS

LB INNOVATIONS Tell us a little about your business and the vision you have for your brand? LB Innovations is a full-service event planning and design firm serving the Washington, DC Metro area and wherever our clients call. I do weddings and events with purpose. I also create custom florals for events and funerals. If I could run LB Innovations in a manner that most ideally fits my vision, it would be a full-service venue that accommodates various sized events. The space would serve as a showroom and incubator for creative entrepreneurs offering a work and meeting space for them to operate their businesses. I am actually in the process now of bringing this to a partial reality through my market their products and services. As a business coach and strategist, I would love to see small businesses truly build a community that they can lean on each other for ideas, resources and connections without feeling like there lacks mutual benefits in their professional relationships. The LBI Collective will become an environment that breeds creativity and nurtures growth through community. Yes, it's all been said before but I have witnessed professional networking environments where folks show up in the moment, to sell themselves or find out who is offering something they could use. I would love to see people stick around to really deliver on the open-ended promises they recite during icebreakers. You know the ones that drop names, accolades and resume highlights so that

we can believe that they are qualified but never follow-through or position themselves to really execute any level of support. If time or money was not a factor, I would help everyone get their passion started into a profitable business. Neither of those resources are limitless for most of us so I am working hard to get this community started to really support small businesses. source. The year 2020 showed us that life is not predictable. As a business owner, things are not always perfect. What are some of your fears as an entrepreneur? I fear losing my passion and not being able to encourage others. I believe that God gives us these dreams, talents and purposes that we have to want to purpose. Everyone has a gift. Some people do not believe they have a gift so they settle with just being alive, never really seeking out how to truly live. Some people measure living by traveling to see the world, when that may not be attainable for most due to finances. Your gift however is given to you at no charge. It consists of your dreams and everything you wish you could do or try. God gives us the vision to see ourselves doing those things and it is up to us to figure out how to live it. That is the passion I never want to lose. Whatever idea I have, I want to say I at least tried. When either of my children come to me with an idea, I make it my point to assist them in discovering their full potential.

INSPIRATIONAL MOMENTS

MOGULLEADERSMAGAZINE.COM

So often, we see people with hidden talent. Street artists, musicians at the train station, poets that believe singing or rapping is the only way they can deliver their words. Sometimes people just need someone, on the outside to witness their raw talent and push them in the right direction. I want to be that person that gives that push.

Think outside the box and keep going. You may get distracted or feel like your industry or the road ahead is crowded. There may appear to be to many people already doing what you plan to do. I believe that when God gives us vision, he also provided the provisions as well as the plan. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Sometimes people do things because it seems trendy or profitable. They don’t really have a passion but they believe it’s a good way to make money. Those people do not often find success because they only have a “right now” mentality.

As a business coach, you are connected with entrepreneurs and industry leaders of various levels. What type of advice would share with someone that is on the fence about about taking the leap to pursue their passion?

SPRING EDITION

They don’t have any idea of what to do after the launch or how to market the idea. If you have prayed about what you want out of life, then trust God to deliver. Surround yourself with others that have a community mentality so that you never feel like you have to compete with your neighbors. If the people closest to you are not giving you the truth as often as they are applauding you, then you need to balance out your circle. No team can thrive only with cheerleaders. You need the people on the sidelines that tell you when to make moves and when to change the plans. These consultants will guide you in your decision making and hold you accountable to the promises you are making to yourself. Lastly, don’t be afraid to experience the lesson and be ready to try it again. Entrepreneurs should always be focused on scaling and making an impact. Where do you see yourself/business in the future?

29| MOGUL LEADERS MAGAZINE

I see myself being the financer to other growing businesses and idea makers. I have never said I want to be a millionaire and have never been one to measure success through money. I believe that true success is defined by impact. I want to change lives. I believe that helping and equipping others to identify how they can become successful will be my way of not only enlarging my territory by changing lives. Impact at this level will change mindsets, promote a new way of thinking and redefine how generations after us learn their history and document their own future.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you? I am such a procrastinator in some areas. I don't miss deadlines or allow things to not get done. It is just that when it comes to creating, I wait to see how I feel about a design before I actually commit. As a planner, one would assume that my life is run by my calendars and clocks. Well, for the most part it is but there are times when I am so focused on the details of a project that I wait to start on it until I have every detail in place. This system is okay until I have a client ask me for a sample or idea of a centerpiece for their wedding day. This is just the way creativity works, normally at 2 o'clock in the morning.

Sometimes I decide a few days before what an entire event will look like. I have surprised myself a few times with a first look at a wedding reception. How do you align yourself with being a business Mogul. First things, I do not equate money with success. I preach, teach it and speak it all the time. True success for me is defined by the impact you are making and the number of lives you are changing. I want to be recognized in my industry as a mogul because I have changed how things are done and created opportunities for those behind me. I know that when you bless others with the tools and resources they need, your own territory expands.

I am blessed to do what I love and share my gifts with others on my own terms.

I remember the first practices at Throughout the years the one skill WBC, although I knew and I’ve insisted that my teams develop is understood the game, I did not feel communication. I was players, teams and coaches that I as quiet as a church mouse, but I have had the chance to observe kept my ears and eyes open, and communicated clearly, concisely and by Coach Anthony Davis jumped into drills to demonstrate at times, demonstratively. The key is to speak extended an invitation for me to join taking every opportunity to read quickly and to utilize “jargon” that him on his staff, coaching men’s books, watch videos, attend clinics, everyone understands. After all basketball at Washington Bible camps, etc. in order to learn as much timeouts were limited to either 30 or College (WBC) in Lanham, MD. The as I could. MOGUL LEADERS MAGAZINE | 31

Taking it outside the realm of basketball, in the business world there are typical catch phrases and words (jargon) that are common – business plan, bandwidth, wheelhouse, roll out, deliverables, pivot, etc. This jargon enables those involved to engage in short but meaningful dialogue that keeps things moving in a forward trajectory while simultaneously eliminating loss time. This brings me to the title of this article, Time and Situation. This is a “coach speak” term that refers to understanding the situation at any given time of the game. It deals with strategy. In the game of basketball, players should understand that there are certain things you do or do not do at critical times during the game. This generally comes into play, no pun intended, when the score is close and the outcome of the game, success or failure, win or lose, hinges on how a player or a team handles the time and situation. Notice I mentioned the score is close and the outcome hangs in the balance, so in this situation it would be reasonable to expect that nerves are on edge, adrenaline is flowing, the crowd is on their feet (non-COVID of course) and the noise level is absolutely deafening. Coaches worth their salt, have prepared their teams for such a time as this, but it is not uncommon to see a player, or a team make a mistake that cost them an opportunity to win. I’ve coached a number of games over the past two decades and can recall a number of examples of where time and situation mistakes cost one team or the other the game. The greatest example that the more seasoned readers may remember was in the 1993 NCAA Men’s Championship game between the University of North Carolina (UNC) and the University of Michigan (see https://youtu.be/aiJxgcka7BA). With 20 seconds left in the game and the clock stopped, Pat Sullivan of UNC went to the free throw line with a one and one situation. Sullivan made the first attempt giving UNC a twopoint lead. Sullivan missed the second free throw and Chris Webber of Michigan rebounded the ball. Webber dribbled the ball the length of the court and called a timeout with 11 seconds remaining on the clock. In most situations this would have been the right thing to do.

In this situation Michigan had no timeouts to use. This resulted in a technical foul, UNC shot two free throws and maintained possession of the ball…#gameover. Yes, this was the national championship played before tens of thousands and watched on television by millions. Yes, the score was tight, the crowd was loud and standing. Unless you were there, it would be unfathomable to know the energy in that arena. And yes, Chris Webber was one of the best players in college basketball at the time and had probably played thousands of games in his career up to that point. No judgment of Webber, but this was a perfect scenario where a miscue cost Michigan an opportunity to at least take a shot to tie or win the game. I would like to pivot at this point and ask the question, what is the time and situation of your life? For the past year we all have been taunted by a global pandemic. We all have had to quarantine and curtail many of our normal activities of daily living. For some this has meant a loss or reduction of income, students have had to learn remotely, many have struggled to maintain their mental health and hundreds of thousands have lost their lives. Conversely, leading up to and during this same timeframe people of color have had to deal with the everincreasing visibility of what some are liking to genocide. Through the medium of social media and 24-hour news, we have seen real-time images of Black people being killed by the very hands of individuals that were deputized and paid to serve and protect. The purpose of this article, however, is not to enrage or to be political, but to prayerfully cause reflection and conviction to examine where we are as individuals and to make adjustments where necessary. I was listening to the radio a day or two ago and the question was asked, “…in a year from now, what do you want to see in your life or what would you want to accomplish?” During this pandemic there have also been innovations. Businesses and individuals have pivoted to reinvent themselves in order to make the best of their circumstances.

32

Some industries have seen tremendous growth during this time. I love what the late Jim Rohn, a former leader within the self-development genre says, “the same wind blows on us all, the wind of opportunity and the wind of difficulty…it is not what happens to us, it is what we do about what happens.” Mr. Rohn goes on in this particular speech to drive home his point, but I would like to put it in a biblical context, “For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike” (Matthew 5:45b, NLT). The same wind blows on us all! And if you have not experienced any difficulties in your life, just keep on living. However, do you feel as though you are behind? Do you need to change your financial strategy? Do you need to go back to school to learn a new skill or get that degree that you have been putting off? Have you been delaying launching that new business? Do you want to read more or even write a book? Do you need to work on your relationships? Nike has one of the most outstanding slogans of all times, JUST DO IT! Now what about your time? Have you ever said, “there’s just not enough hours in a day” or “if I had more time, I would ____?” Someone once said to me, “God made a day to equal 24 hours” and the creation story, found in the Book of Genesis indicates that everything God made was “good.” People that are considered “successful”, have the same twenty-four hours as everyone else! I would suggest that we all can make better use of our time. Again, taking it to the Word, “So then, be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of your time…” (Ephesians 5:15-16, NASB). “…For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away” (James 4:14b, NASB).

We have no idea how much time we have on this Earth, but we should make every effort to live a life pleasing to God, to make a difference in our lives, in the lives of our families, in our communities, in the world, and to love our fellow man as we love ourselves. Becoming a coach has availed me the chance to view the game of basketball in a different way. Different from a player, a fan, or a casual observer. As a coach you are thinking what needs to be accomplished for the success of the team. You strive to get 10-12 individuals to think and move as we and not me. There are few experiences greater than seeing a group of individuals working on one accord, striving to accomplish a common goal! To me basketball mimics life – being a part of a team, organization, communication, the constant movement and transitions, purpose, leadership, planning and the desire for success. Likewise, having lived six decades has afforded me the opportunity to experience life from a variety of vantage points. Yes, I have made mistakes and yet God has been with me throughout my journey. Did Webber blow the game? Some would say he did, while others would simply say it was just a game. But just like Chris Webber we all are only human, fully capable of making mistakes throughout the course of our lives. Chris went on to have an outstanding professional career and after hanging up his sneakers, he went on to cover professional basketball as a media broadcaster. Our God is a God of second chances and sometimes more, but it is important that we understand the time and situation of our lives. We do this so that we can minimize mistakes, pivot when necessary, help others, live abundant lives and bring honor to God!

FELICIA E FLYTHE

I am Felicia E Flythe, Daughter of late Wallace Flythe and Pastor Lorene Moore.

I was born and raised in Hartford CT, and moved to Florida in my early teenage years. I am the mother of 4 handsome and awesome sons. I have 3 beautiful god-daughters. I currently reside in Tallahassee Florida. I started sewing at an early age; I use to enjoy watching my grandmother sew as I thought she was the best on this side of Heaven. My grandmother would make lap scarves for women at the church and those who wanted to purchase outside of the ministry where she attended.

I enjoyed watching how the colors blended together with the lace trimming. Before she went on to be with the Lord, I told her I would continue her legacy no matter what. While continuing and fulfilling my commitment to my grandmother, in 2016 I wanted to create lap scarves for Elect Ladies around the world. I wanted to design their clothes with matching lap scarves, hats, and brooches. In 2020 I decided under the guidance of God to add ladies bow ties to the collection. So not only would the ladies have lap scarves, the set will include blinged bowties and matching brooches.

MINISTER CHANEL ABRAMS

A HOPE DEFERRED Makeup Artist & Hairstylist CBN News Washington, DC Ever since I was a little girl I have had a love for Makeup. I remember grabbing all of my Mother’s magazine’s and studying the model’s faces. I’d create a look, then wash my face and move on to the next look. I would do this over and over again for hours. I then moved to applying Makeup on my friends and family. I started in the Beauty Industry as a Shampoo Assistant in a Salon with my Cousin. I continued on to Apprentice in that Salon. Everyday I would learn as much as I could from each Stylist. After watching what they did I would practice on Mannequin Heads and then on people. A lot of times my Services were free of charge for me to practice my skills. Although I liked doing hair; my heart was still in Makeup. I left the Salon to pursue a career in corporate America. I wanted a job where I traveled and that had an office with my name on it.

Along with a brief case with “important papers” in it. I accomplished all of those things and still felt unfulfilled. I did my best to express my creativity. However, anyone that is creative will tell you that it’s hard to have your creativity dictated to you. I remember my Dear Friend telling me every time I saw her that I was wasting my time and talent in Corporate America. She would repeatedly say that I needed to be working in the Beauty Industry. I started working in her Salon on the weekends and in Corporate America during the week. I actually got fired from my last job in Corporate America. I knew that it was God moving me into my destiny. In fact when I got hired I remember the Holy Spirit telling me that I was going to get fired.

SPRING EDITION 2021

I then started working Full Time in the Salon doing hair mainly. I still had a longing in my heart to do Make-up; which I would do occasionally. I started to feel pulled towards the Television and Film Industry, but had no idea how to make my way into it. So I blindly started to apply for various Television Stations. I got some gigs to do local Small Films and local Television Shows. I was also blessed to be able to do Hair and Makeup at New York Fashion Week in 2018. I finally got a chance to audition for CNN after applying for years. I just knew it was my time, but I was rejected not once, but twice. I also auditioned for Fox News and was rejected twice. These events devastated me and made me question if God’s plan was for me to work in Television and Film. I also remember working on gigs with other Makeup Artists and leaving the room only to return to hear them talking bad about my work. I was rejected by many of them and overlooked when they knew of opportunities for Makeup Artists. I went through a very dark period in my life and really questioned if I was good enough. You see, I’ve never taken a Formal Class or had any Formal Training for Makeup. God Himself has blessed my hands to create through Makeup.

39

IFor years I was drawn to CBN. (The Christian Broadcast Network) Because on many of the Sets, Fashion Shows and Television Stations I had been in; sharing your faith was not encouraged. My faith is who I am. I am who I am because of Jesus Christ and His love for me. In my mind the perfect marriage of my Career and my faith lied in CBN. However, it would be quite some time before I would have the opportunity to see that take place. I checked the Employment section online for years waiting for an opening for a Makeup Artist. One night The Holy Spirit led me to do a search on Facebook of people who worked at CBN. I came across a young lady that had that on her profile. I reached out to her and told her my story. She then told me that it had been years since she worked there and had no idea how to get in touch with anyone there now. Some time would pass and then out of nowhere she messaged me that she saw that they were hiring for a Makeup Artist. On the heels of rejection from another station I applied for my dream at CBN. I got a call to be interviewed. I made it past the interview to go in and audition. Then I waited to hear back from my audition. Finally, I got a call that I got the job!

My time at CBN has placed me in front of many people including; going to The White House for Former Vice President Mike Pence twice, The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and several other members at The Capitol. Additionally, I’ve done Makeup for Kirk Franklin, Brett Baier, The Late Bishop Harry Jackson, Penny Nance, Lisa Robertson, James Dobson and countless other officials that have come to be interviewed at CBN.

HEALTH & BEAUTY

The marriage of My Makeup and My Ministry is now complete. After all, My Makeup is My Ministry. Proverbs 13:12 says “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” Although I was denied and rejected by many, God has the final say. If God shows you something that He has for you. Rest assured, He will make it happen in His time. I’m looking forward with great expectation to see what else The Lord has in store for me.

beauty tips SKINCARE ESSENTIALS

Exfoliate your skin Dead skin cells equal dull skin tone. And by not getting rid of them, you’re sabotaging the hydrating effects of body cleansers and moisturizers as they try to “battle through” the buildup barrier. Use a body scrub about twice a week. Alternatively, try daily dry-body brushing before showering. Using a brush or loofah mitt, buff your skin in circular motions (don’t scrub too hard), starting with the soles of your feet, then working upward on legs, front and back. Pay special attention to backs of the thighs, upper arms and hips. Of course, in the shower, you can use a nylon puff or sea sponge with your favourite body cleanser for a more gentle slough.

REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP

STOP IT

Stop picking at pimples Never pick at your skin, says Dermatologist Dr. Lisa Kellett of DLK on Avenue in Toronto. “Picking can cause scarring and infection,” she explains, “and the skin doesn’t heal properly.” It’s important to note that acne scarring is actually caused by picking and not the acne itself, Dr. Kellett notes-so keep hands off for clearer skin.

Remove your makeup before bed By not cleansing before bed, you’re leaving your pores clogged with leftover makeup and sweat, says Manuela Marcheggiani, a cosmetic chemist and co-founder of Canada’s Isomers (Skin Care) Laboratories. The result: dull, breakout-prone skin. Leaving on your eye makeup could even cause eye irritation and broken lashes. On nights when you’re too tired, use pre-saturated cleansing cloths before you crash. HEALTH & BEAUTY

EIGHT BEST STRETCHES TO DO BEFORE RUNNING Walking Lunges Walking lunges are a variation on the static lunge exercise. Instead of standing back upright after performing a lunge on one leg, as you would in a static bodyweight lunge, you “walk” forward by lunging out with the other leg. The movement continues for a set number of reps.

Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch 1. Kneel on a mat with both knees, then place one foot forward so that you have a 90degree angle at the hip and knee. 2. Keeping the torso upright, slowly lean forward until you feel a comfortable stretch through the groin and top of the thigh (rear leg).

Side Stretch Stand up with your feet set slightly wider than your shoulders. Then raise your left arm up and sideways over your head. At the same time reach down with your right arm and bend your upper body down to the right hand side. Repeat this on the other side.

BECOME A TRAIL MONSTER By Jacob Walker

If you’re wondering how to become a stronger trail runner and boost your overall performance, you’ve come to the right place. For years I have been dialing in routines and testing a multitude of trail running gear, all so that I can become a faster/stronger trail runner and then maintain that performance. It’s so often the case in life that the best cure is actually prevention, and although many unfortunate issues you may experience while trail running can be prevented with the proper training, diet, experience, and gear, some cannot. In this post, I’m going to share my routine for maintaining fitness, strength and a mostly injury-free running lifestyle. In the case of needing a solution (rather than prevention) to problems that may occur while running on the trails, whether it’s a fast 10k race, or an ultramarathon in the mountains, I have discovered products that will bring you out of the pain cave right when you need them too. I’m also going to recommend some of the high-performance running gear, nutrition, and recovery tools that completely changed the game for me. If you’re just getting started with trail running and would like more beginner advice then read our Ultimate Beginner’s Guide To Trail Running post too.

I have been working out for years but it wasn’t unit I matched my eating habits with my workouts that I was able to lose 100 lbs in 8 months. My diet was to reduce my carb (breads, sugar pasta fried foods sodas) and start eating more vegetables. I have never ate cauliflower once in my life until last year and now it’s a staple in my diet.

LIVING A SPIRITUALLY HEALTHY & FIT FOR LIFE, LIFESTYLE Living a Spiritually Healthy & Fit For LIFE, Lifestyle has truly become who I am and everyday striving and thriving to be better. I’ve always been involved and loved sports since elementary school. And at some point all the ones I played I did very well in. When I became an adult I worked out often, was a picky eater but I wouldn’t say a healthy eater. It was when I went through a lifetime journey of change in 2007. I then begin to exercise a lot and then changed my eating habits. During my challenge, at times became more and more challenging I continued to eat better and exercise daily. It was then not only my body changed, but my mind, body, soul, and spirit was lifted and more. And one of my Goals in Life is to assist others in GROWing through while they go through their challenges in and of life. And to stay GOD-geous through it all. INSTRUCTIONS Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the salmon filets (or fish if using) on both sides with salt and pepper, and sear in the hot pan, flesh-side down first, for 5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your liking. Once cooked, remove from the pan and set aside. Melt the butter in the remaining juices leftover in the pan. Add in the garlic and fry until fragrant (about one minute). Fry the onion in the butter. Pour in the white wine (if using), and allow to reduce down slightly. Add the sun dried tomatoes and fry for 1-2 minutes to release their flavours. Add in the spinach leaves and allow to wilt in the sauce, and add in the parmesan cheese. Allow sauce to simmer for a further minute until cheese melts through the sauce. (For a thicker sauce, add the milk/cornstarch mixture to the centre of the pan, and continue to simmer while quickly stirring the mixture through until the sauce thickens.) Add the salmon back into the pan; sprinkle with the parsley, and spoon the sauce over each filet. Serve over pasta, rice or steamed veg.

CHEF LULU MCNAIR My name is Lulu McNair. I’m thirty nine years old, I’m happily married with two wonder children and an adorable grandson. I’m the baby girl out of all my loving brothers and sister. I grew up with my mother and father where I would spend a lot of time in the kitchen with my mother whom is deceased. I would race her in the kitchen soon as I would see her heading that way. Grabbing a stool or a chair whichever was close so I could climb on the counter to watch her or even help her.

As I got older I began to cook and help my mother more and more and it meant a lot to me because I was doing something that I loved but most of all I had the special time with her. I had different dreams of what I wanted to be. In 2012 my mother passed and a few months went by I made up in my mind that I wanted to be a chef because I would sit back thinking about my childhood and the times that I would spend with my mother. One day my husband and I had a conversation about me getting my paperwork right and that consisted of getting a degree as well. It was hard, working a full time job, and a full time student. There were days I didn’t feel like going and wanted to quit but my husband encouraged me saying the best is yet to come.

I truly appreciate the support system because he was there for me and it’ll never go unnoticed. In 2018 I graduated from Keiser University in Tallahassee Florida with my associate’s degree in culinary arts.Today I’m the owner of Momma Lu’s Catering, LLC and I truly give all the praise to our Heavenly Father Jesus Christ. There were times I wanted to give up, but I kept the faith and for this I know my mother is smiling down and truly proud of me. No matter how hard it gets never give up because all things are possible through Christ who strengthens us.

THE DIXONS The stigma of pastors seems to be that many people believe pastoring/shepparding is always a cake- walk. Every day will always be filled with “bless God” and “Hallelujah.” We won’t be the first, and definitely not the last, to inform you that way of thinking is far from true.

LISTEN Listen, in our journey, we have gone through a lot of stuff. You hear me?! At the beginning of our marriage, we were in and out of intensive care with our youngest son for the first two years of his life. We have seen many ups and downs, but our stance has always been the same thing: TRUST GOD. Through it all, we have raised 2 biological children and raised/fostered at least 12 others. Yes, our house was a revolving door for years. It was nothing for us to wake up in the middle of the night stepping over sleeping bodies on the family room floor. You may even find others on couches, beds, or wherever there was space available.

PAGE 58

Several years ago, we hit one of the hardest places we had ever faced to date. Now, we have walked through many, many things with others, but this one, yeah, this one was personal. You see, we got a knock on the door, and the troopers told us that our oldest son passed away in a car accident after just one semester in college. This broke our heart in pieces, and we definitely questioned God. Thankfully, we had a praying family and church that helped us through. There are going to be rough patches and things that don’t always go your way, but its in those times that you begin to pull on your faith, trust in God, live righteously, and do those things you know to do.

STANDING THROUGH CRISIS/ADVERSITY What do you do when living right doesn’t seem to work especially when you are in the public eye? How do you respond when everything around you seems like its failing. There will be days when you struggle, when you cry, and when you hurt.

"WHEN EVERYONE HAS A FRONT ROW SEAT TO YOUR PAIN, WHAT’S MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT YOU AREN’T PHONY OR HIDE BEHIND A RELIGIOUS MASK. DON’T ALLOW THE ENEMY TO MAKE YOUR HEART HARD. ALLOW YOURSELF NOT ONLY TO HEAL BUT TO HEAL CORRECTLY."

God promises that no weapon formed against you will prosper, but He never said it would not be formed. Trust God even when you don’t understand what He is doing, and allow the Holy Spirit to comfort you in the process. Always surround yourself with close friends and family you trust, can lean on, and will cover you when you are most vulnerable. In the most difficult times of our lives, the Word of God is what we stand on. When it felt like the rug was literally being pulled forcefully from under us, we stood. When others around us were hurting and there was absolutely nothing we could do to help or take the pain away, we stood. When friends, family, and loved ones walked away from God, we stood. God has been faithful to us in the mist of our crisis and adversity.

LIFE | 59

And now… Fast forward a few years, and today we lead a growing multicultural church filled with several outreaches and ministries. We have sent out minsters to plant churches. All of our kids are thriving, and our youngest is a sophomore in college in hopes to one day become a Pharmacist. One of the ministries that is dear to our heart is Marriage and Family. It is our core belief that if you want to understand how something works; you have to consult the One who created it. Marriage is an institution created by God to soothe the aloneness of man. The purpose God intended for your marriage was so that He could love you through someone else. Over the years we have learned that marriages don’t fail because people don’t love each other.

They fail because people don’t know how to show it. It is highly possible that you can love someone with emotion but not have the character or know-how to express it. A lot of people like to look good and not be good. Our desire is to teach people how to possess all that God has for them including a fruitful and happy marriage. Always remember, marriage is FUN! Invest in your marriage like dating each other as well as go out with other healthy couples, and keep God as your foundation!!! A lot of people like to look good and not be good. ECISIONS Dr. Letisha Galloway

Everyday we are faced with decisions to make. Some decisions are less complicated and some are truly a matter of life or death. Easy decisions include things like what to wear or eat. More complex decisions are what medicine to take or where to move to. Decision making allows us to make a choice on what the best course of action to take. Before making a decision, the problem must be identified. There must be a decision made to address it. Determine how the decision will impact your life or the lives of others. Information should be gathered so that a decision can be made on facts and not emotion. After gathering all of the information it should be weighed. Things such as is it feasible, acceptable and desirable. The outcome must be considered. After weighing the pros and cons a decision is closer to being made. Before making a decision understand the risks associated with the choice. Some decisions require a plan, others must be made quickly. In some instances, others will need to be involved in your decision making. Gather the facts and present your case for them getting onboard with the decision. While you may have facts and opinions there are still challenges to decision making. In decision making there are mistakes to be made. Too much information could lead to confusion. It can prevent you from following your intuition. Many times, our intuition is really God telling us to stop or go. HE must be involved in all big decisions. Relying on a single piece of information is a great way to make mistakes. No, information should be reviewed from a few sources. In all things God should be consulted. You can have all of the information but if God is not involved in it there is an increased risk of failure. There will be times of failure because we rushed in making a decision that required more time and consideration. Overall, if God is involved even the biggest mistake can be a lesson. We should be consistently praying and not cease. Prayer is not a substitute for hard work and research. You must have the information on what you are praying about. In the end, we should strive to make the best decision possible and minimize damage. 62

The Power of Influence by Dr. Eric L. Holmes

When you think of influence so many things come to mind. Most of us think of those in control or in high places. Seeing it from a spiritual perspective you see it differently. Then to see power and influence you add more to it. We all have some kind of influence good or bad. I choose to use my influence in a positive way. I go into the community and I share with others and encourage them. In today we must be able to help and inspire others with positive influence. In life influence can be life changing and every word can effect change positive or negative. Will you make a positive change? But we must learn and continue in the things you learn but remember who you learned them from. I have been able through the teaching of my book The Power Of The Seed sharing about how powerful seed is when sown properly and the process of sowing seed. From the natural and spiritual aspect of sowing seed. As men let’s take our rightful place in our families, our homes, our communities and our churches. We have great influence and we can make a difference Men of valor you are important and you are valuable. You are protectors, your presence makes a difference. Truly I have tried with every opportunity I am afforded to share positive great and positive influence and make a difference. So in life we look at things from another perspective and perception and always see the best and make great and positive influence. Dr. Eric L. Holmes Author of The Power of The Seed 63

Leveling Up in Decision Making with Life-Strategist Dr. Cheryl Marks We are living in an era where life demands powerful shifts in our thoughts and mindsets followed up by brave actions! Possessing the ability to make a decision is perhaps the most important component of any individual or business activities. It plays the most important role in the planning process, and though this is a major component, many people lack the module of decision making skills, causing them to forfeit in proceeding and achieving overall success; www.mogulleadersmagazine.com| 68

however, my mission today is to help you level up and succeed in decision making! Decision making is defined as the action or process of making decisions, especially important ones. As a believer, before making any decision, we have been commissioned, “to acknowledge God in ALL THINGS, trusting in Him that He will give us wisdom, guidance, a great future and hope. Always remember, “If you are obsessed over whether you are making the right decision ALL THE TIME, chances are you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another;

however, I can definitely assure you that isn’t the case. So, get ready to make those decisions and do it with confidence! Making decisions is a tool that if utilized appropriately, you will be able to learn, earn and have so much more to pass on, even threw the decisions where you may have missed the mark. Making decisions is expected and unavoidable and will always stare at us, until we answer! Though making decisions can be daunting and sometimes very intimidating, but when you learn to embrace and trust your instincts, the pressure decompresses and unzips the grip on your mind causing you to welcome the challenge.

Since we live in a society where we are applauded for making good decisions and penalized for making bad ones rather intentionally or unintentionally, this fear has the tendency to hold us back with the quiet conscious that says, “what if I make the wrong decision; but please allow my voice to speak louder today, and say, “what if you make the right or advantageous decision that will launch you into achieving uncommon success! Therefore, I implore of you to rid yourself of all fears and start embracing your inner confidence, because situations does not dissipate on their own. Eventually, you’re going to have to make a decision, and I want you to do it with assurance. When it comes to making decisions rather in your home, with your spouse, or a business partner, you must first identify the problem or situation that needs to be addressed.

Since we often perceive and interpret things differently, sometimes it’s ok to ask the ones involved to write out what their viewpoints are and that way you all can gain clarity and simplify the matter more quickly, simply because some individuals can express better in writing than verbal communication. That’s why it’s always a good idea to know the state of the individuals that you are connected to because we all communicate differently. Also, gathering information pertaining to the decision that has to be made will help you tremendously! It allows you to filter out, cross examine and identify alternative methods.

Before making any decision, always take the time to review your decisions and its consequences. Approach each thought with sincerity and confidence.

At this point, you are more likely to be confronted with all of your past mistakes; but don’t allow this to cripple or When handling practical matters, learn to be inclusive, hinder you in any way from making another decision. Learn treating everyone involved with equivalent from your past and move consideration. forward.

SPRING EDITION | 69

When you need to make a decision, never be afraid to ask for guidance. You would be amazed to find out how many people are more than willing to help you. It’s the nature of man, to help! Just make sure that you are seeking the expert in the matter. One simple; but powerful thing that most people fail to consider when it comes to making decisions is, “to ask for feedback!” While you are in the planning & thought process of the matter, consider finding someone who you trust and will speak what you need to hear and not what you desire to hear and ask them for their feedback based on what you are planning on doing! Now TAKE ACTION & MAKE THAT DECISION!!!! You are going to do exceptionally well!!!

In our previous marriages we learned a lot, once we were married we quickly learned that we both had many chains,

and cycles that must be broken and that we both needed to be delivered. Some people would not understand how we are still serving the Lord together; and when we begin to doubt God’s plan for our marriage especially because of the way it started, God takes us back to John 8:111; when Jesus asked the woman “Woman, where art thou accusers?

Parenting During Coronavirus PARENTING HAS ALWAYS BEEN TOUGH, BUT HOME SCHOOLING, WORKING FROM HOME, AND ALL THE FINANCIAL UNCERTAINTY SURROUNDING COVID-19 HAS MADE IT EVEN TOUGHER. THESE PARENTING TIPS CAN HELP YOU COPE.

Helping your kids with online classes and schoolwork The coronavirus pandemic has thrown many of us into the role of de facto homeschool teacher. In addition to all your other responsibilities, you may be finding it difficult to keep your children on track or helping them with assignments, especially if they’re in different grades. Keep in mind that this is a stressful time for kids as well, and that it’s normal for them to regress or act out in ways they normally wouldn’t.

Going easy on your kids can help reduce their stress levels as well as your own. Join forces with other parents. Reach out safely or via phone, email, or social media and exchange tips for keeping kids focused and engaged. Depending on the restrictions in your area, you may also want to organize a virtual activity or study group, which has the added bonus of providing social interaction for your child. Collaborating with other parents may help you feel less isolated as well.

Connect with your child’s teacher. Remember, they’re also getting through this by trial and error. If your child’s school is still closed, be honest about what is working with home tutoring and what isn’t. Your child’s teacher has a good understanding of their academic strengths and weaknesses, so they may be able to help you come up with a more individualized learning plan. Create a learning routine. A routine gives kids a sense of normalcy during an otherwise uncertain time. But you don’t have to go crazy with colorcoded schedules if that’s not your style. Just create a general outline that you think you can maintain on most days that still leaves room for flexibility and down-time.

FINANCE & FAMILY SECTION

If possible, try to designate a workspace for each member of the family. Set goals—and celebrate their completion. Since so much has been stripped from our everyday lives, having something to look forward to can help kids stay motivated. Setting up small rewards, like watching an episode of a favorite TV show, can help them tackle that unpleasant math assignment. Get the whole family in on it. If you all set a few goals and plan breaks together, your kids will see that you’re a team. Get creative with lessons. Doing a science experiment, for example, or cooking with

measurements, can be a good way of bringing lessons to life. And consider your child’s strengths. If they love to draw and write, now is a good time to set them free with pencils and paper. Dealing with your child’s fears and stress After watching the news or overhearing an adult conversation regarding the pandemic, young children might get scared. COVID-19 has changed their schooling, friendships, and normal routine, so it should be a top priority to address your child’s fears and reassure their physical and emotional well-being. T

GODBOLT

ANOINTED, POWERFUL, HARDWORKING AND PERSISTENT Anointed, powerful, hard-working and persistent are not always adjectives that can be used to describe the same person. However, for CeCe Godbolt, those adjectives are just some of the words one can use to describe this dynamic woman and servant of God. Psalmist, songwriter and actress are the roles she plays in order to shine her light and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. While she is consistently focused on working for the Kingdom, she is also a woman with a huge heart who loves God and people.

Jamar Spencer is a small town native of Thomasville, GA. Most people don't even know where his hometown is because it's no small. It's practically unheard of. Jamar, along with his brother were raised by their mother, who was an Evangelist, and a singer-songwriter. Early on, Jamar was brought up in church, and heard the gospel preached throughout his whole life growing up. Hearing his mother minister through song ignited his passion for music. Jamar believes that the mantle from his mother has been placed on him by the Holy Spirit to declare the gospel of Jesus Christ through song. Like most, Jamar had to find his way. He started making secular music, only to find out later on that God had other plans for him. As a teen Jamar surrendered and gave his life to Christ, starting a new journey in life, as well as music. Jamar's bright melodies, and diverse delivery, and the anointing of God will captivate your heart to want to hear more. His peaceful vibes, and smooth tone puts you at a place of ease. Jamar believes in letting the Holy Spirit take control when he's crafting his music, so it'll always be relevant. Jamar released his first single "Love You Right Back" in 2018, followed by a number of singles throughout 2019-2020. His latest release "2020" is out now, and it gives you a peek into Jamar's life and hardships. Despite trials, Jamar knows his mission. He just wants God to get the glory out of his life! 83

ALYSSIA FUTURE OLYMPIAN

HER LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS

My name is Alyssia Isabella Vasquez. I am 11 years old and am in the 5th grade. I have two older brothers and one youngest sister. I have been enjoying what I desire most for over 7 years and that’s dancing. I do a combination of things, gymnastics, ballerina, and hiphop, all which brings me back to the love of dancing I recall being very shy when I first started. The stage was super huge and the crowd would send chills up my spine. Yet I always seem to complete my performances successfully. There I am, alone in my bedroom dancing in front of the mirror, amazed with the many dance forms my body was capable of doing. Some nights I would dance myself to sleep. Now a few years older, it surprises me to hear what people have to say about my dance talent. There’s been times my dance instructor notice my abilities before I had a chance to practice. She would select me and say, Alyssia, I want you to do the back flip no hands. She would walk me over to the mat, explain what to do, no practice, standing next to me, yell, go Alyssia, she’s spotting me and over I would go. I couldn’t wait to get home to tell my mom I did a new flip for a new dance routine.

Over the years, I’ve been awarded, pins, badges, ribbons and trophies. I have a table in my bedroom where I keep them all display while I continue to compete for more. Once again, I am 11 years old, and I’ve been very fortunate to live my dream with the support of my parents and siblings. And so, if I can do it, so can you. I encourage you to get started, seek help, ask questions, and share your dream with someone, you never know what a conversation may offer. Best wishes to everyone My biggest goal is to make it to the Olympics. I hope to see you amongst the stars! Peace and Blessings

CAMERON BRISCOE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW YOU GOT STARTED. My name is Cameron Briscoe and I am a third grader. I like to play basketball and my favorite position is center. I also like football and practicing to become a great wide receiver like Odell Beckham Jr. aka OBJ. I like school, on a scale of 1 to 10 I give it an 8. My favorite subject is math because I like counting money. I serve my church, Body of Christ, on the youth choir and as an usher. Sometimes I like doing chores at home but it's not my favorite thing to do. In my free time, I play fortnite, madden and love going outside to just play.

I got started as an entrepreneur after going to my mom, asking her for something (I can’t remember what) and she told me I needed a job. I asked her if I could make money doing things like washing cars and walking dogs but she said no. She was scared a strange dog would bite me. So, she told me to make a list of things I like. When I was thinking of ideas, I was inspired by the story of New Orleans Saints Player Demario Davis who was fined for wearing a headband with the message “Man of God” during a game. I didn’t understand why he was fined, and told my mom I really liked the message. We sat down and decided to combine my love for sports and positive messages into a brand for all ages.

PAGE 91

Obstacles that young entrepreneurs face and advice I would give: One obstacle is finding people interested in buying what you are selling. You can’t assume just because you are a kid that everyone will support you. Some people are not bold enough to wear the messages I am sharing, and that is okay. DO not feel like you have to blend in. I know it was hard for me to decide on some of the messages I picked for my clothes, because not everyone wants to walk around telling the world they love God. I believe that you have to set an example, no matter how old you are. Just like people run out to buy certain brands and labels that seem popular. I believe that my messages will catch on to young people and we will be trending as positive influencers in our generation. Those that are bold will buy my products because they understand my mission. I would tell young people to just believe in yourself. We all have ideas that may seem crazy but if you have someone cheering you on and willing to support you, listen to their advice. Just starting out, you really don’t have money so you need other people to invest in your dream. If you do not believe in your own dreams, you can’t expect someone else to believe in you.

"DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO BLEND IN."

Biggest inspiration Since I love sports, I look at the greats that are making a change in the world and not afraid to stand out. Stephen Curry has been an inspiration to me ever since he decided to collaborate with Under Armour and share my favorite scripture on his shoes, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. I even decided to put that on a shirt for other young people to be reminded of what they can do. I also admire Kobe Bryant. Even though he is not here anymore; my dad loved him and followed his career. I started following his career and learned about everything he did for the game, the community and his family. I want to make an impact like that. I want to be respected like them. Where can we find you online? You can find me online at www.AllYearGear.co I am also on Facebook at @allyeargear and Instagram at @all_year_gear. I am working on a blog to share my monthly motivation that I hope to launch in the summer.

"THOSE THAT ARE BOLD WILL BUY MY PRODUCTS BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND MY MISSION."

Arianna Fox FAITH UNDER FIRE One night, a house caught fire and a young boy was forced to flee to the roof. The father stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling to his son, “Jump! I'll catch you.” He knew the boy had to jump to save his life. All the boy could see, however, was flame, smoke, and blackness. As can be imagined, he was afraid to leave the security of the roof. His heart was pounding and his breaths were near hyperventilating. His father kept yelling, “Jump! I will catch you.” But the boy protested, in between gasps for breath, “Daddy, I can't see you.” The father replied, “But I can see you, and that's all that matters.” Do you consider yourself a rather faithful person? “If God cared about us,” we might say or think sometimes, “He wouldn’t allow these terrible things to happen in our lives.” But in truth, it’s because He cares about us that He allows those things to happen – and not only because He cares about us, but also because He wants to test our faith. Here are two examples of why our faith is tested, and how we can keep it strong even when others try to break it down. 1. Faith is like gold – it needs to be tested. “Fire is the test of gold. My parents keep me surrounded by Music through Church, family gatherings, concerts and live music events and the worshipper in me became attached to music and dance. My passion for music began when I could write a complete sentence and the lyrics started forming in my mind and I would write, write, write. By the age of 10 I had 2 books full of songs and one day I was at church and my pastor at the time heard a song a recorded i my phone and he asked who wrote that and I told him I did and then asked to bring my lyric book to bible study and lets produce some of this music. At 12 years of age I had my first Cd Obstacles that young entrepreneurs face and advice I would give: I wrote a sog on my album called Shooting Star and in that song I talked about taking what God has given you and reach for the stars meaning beyond what you can see. Sometimes we focus so much on the natural and what we see in front of us as in the obstacles, people and things that we never look within ourselves to see or allow ourselves to see what is place there that we never reach becuase of the negativity in front of us but, my advice is Know who you are in the Lord, To stand firm on the gift he has given and to know through him not people that strengthens you, you can DO ALL THINGS.
