Incubation
The early stage began from studying the site boundary by using Digi Map. Google search has been used for the feasibility study and develop the large perspective of Boulme Village. by the time the search become more focused on the lifeboat station. I’ve spent a time looking for concepts in books and magazines that I have such as Architecture Now 3. ArchDaily has amazing designs concepts and worth to be adopted but, at that time I wasn't in the right mood so, I give up and never returned again. Instagram played the important part of the design by follows many architectural accounts which that made me screen shooting tons of photos and look at them by the end of the day. I have started modeling on SketchUp and developing rubbish things which made to stop for awhile and rethink for an alternative way to model. A decision has been made to switch from SketchUp to Revit, I’ve challenged myself to develop the whole model in Revit. The challenge was so hard where I have to learn from Zero in a period less than a month.
Concept development Concept 1
The reason of my choice stands behind the organic shape which looks like the human ribcage to present the concept of how ribs cover the internal parts inside humans body, and how strongly can hold weight. Mechanism idea that shape can face the high-speed wind smoothly and work effectively with “aerodynamic, and allows to the natural light come through with shade to balance brightness.
I had noticed the way how the current building stands, with no columns and load baring stone walls, it been mentioned which is the building has no foundation, which is quite good to develop the structure from outside to hang first floor and roof by the external envelop. the concepts above found from the internet and got inspired by.
Concept development Concept 1 I really liked the concept and the idea of ribs but I hated my sketches. I found it so defecate to shape the structure around that strange sloped roof. Moreover, it was hard to sketch so, how about model it in SketchUp then to Revit. so I give up developing the concept and moved to find different one.
Concept development Concept 2 Another attempt to develop the concept I heated the concept and the looking of the building So I stopped working on that and moved to different one.
Concept development Concept 3 The design concept has been developed by these ideas.
Sloped roof The sloped roof concept has been chosen to merge the old building looking with the modern function without loosing the old character of the current building.
Roof I have looked for an idea flat roof which has a benefit instead of making it blank and ugly looking, I have found that concept of the unique shape to be the view from the first floor with a benefit of light Wight and toughens .
Vegetation Personally, I love to integrate nature with my design. I got inspired by these photos and I have applied them into my design.
Floor slab inspiration I have found that tables are very interesting, the way of load transfer mechanism very effective with very simple idea that can load the developed building heled around the historical walls without effecting its structure and adding more load on them.
Design development Concept 3 I’ve build the model from scratch in Revit till this stage which took a month and have to appear like a building.
The design in that stage above was almost done externally and internally, at one night I felt like I don’t like that and it has something wrong, I've captured the screen and sent it in my family group in what’s app and wake them up at very early morning and asking all way around. My head like flipped upside down wanted to hear from another view. Then I starting moving away lots of areas and cut the triangular part of the loft roof and remove the massive concrete columns which have no need for them.
