INTRODUCTION

This report aims to review and critically describe the journey of modelling and the design process of Wynne Jones Centre from the software point of view. The report will identify BIM production in the first place and taking the benefit of BIM modelling to apply functionality and technologies to the building, thin across the visualisation process to produce the presentation board outputs.

SOFTWARE Revit Sketchup The design development has took benefits of a number of software in order to produce the project outcomes with high level of details possible.

DESIGN PROGRESSION External

An existing model was provided from the university to the student at the a concept design stage to visualise the existing building elements and component However, the existing Wynne Jones building model was not right and there was vast issues with its structural beams and columns. Also all the floors and walls were not in positioned right. As result a large amount of time was spend it to fix the original model from that design issues and to ensure the accuracy of the proposed design model. The design process started by deleting the existing walls and floors to only leave the fixed structural beams and columns, which then can be used as guide to refurbish the Wynne Jones Building.

The Wynne Jones building elevations have got a completely new developed identity. The proposed model has removed all the existing external walls and window openings and replace them with glazing curtain walling system that supplied from bimobject.com which has been chosen by its values and functions and has its BIM information. Thus, the Wynne Jones Building has got a new functional shading facade system. The shading system is inspired an architectural account on social media.

Rendered main elevation

Designing and modelling the shading panels has started on Revit at the early stages by creating a mass object but it did not work at that time, and then decided to fully model it on Sketchup with complex details. SketchUp was helpful to model the panels, however, Revit could not recognise the imported object and deal with it correctly. Then back to Revit to create A new panels. The building covered with a new aluminium cladding system to apply to the building modern and clean appearance. The cladding system was difficult to deal with it in Revit. However, the issues have been tweaked around it and sort it out. Elevation inspirations

DESIGN PROGRESSION The table and chairs have got modified dimensions and materials. The kitchen also is fully equipped with components and fitted to the size. Ground Floor The ground floor development has kept the main areas and services. However, the old left has replaced with 2 lifts. The shower area has developed to become toilets for male and females with separated disable toilet. The lecture hall (Nixon Hall) is generally kept as the existing model from diminution point of view. However, the lecture hall got equipped and refurbished with BIM objects and applied acoustic elements to the walls and ceiling to improve the acoustic of the hall and add technologies to the building. The proposed cafĂŠ is developed in order to follow the project brief in the first place with an open social place for the building occupiers. The cafĂŠ area has got a clean and simple design and furniture as shown in the render provided. The furniture has customised to the need and appearance.

DESIGN PROGRESSION In addition to that, the atrium also works as a ventilation system to the building to balance the internal temperature and keep it fresh. The glass box allows the natural daylight to bright the interior with a green sense. The third floor The third floor is designed to be used as an architectural design studio, offices and open meeting rooms with lounges. The third floor is completely open floor plan with the ability to customise the space. The customisation feature has been provided by a fully automated movable walling system with a complete glass finish.

The third floor is fully designed and equipped with BIM components and materials which helped to generate rendering views. Designing and modelling with Revit has the benefit of letting the idea of the atrium possible. The glass box was easy to model as easy as calling out the process of section and details.

The third floor has an atrium garden which it has a tree inside a glass box. The reasons behind the atrium garden are like the space with the beauty of nature. The atrium designed to function as a selfsustaining internal garden which the roof has been shaped and designed to allow some amount of rain water to water the tree. As the floor is also designed to drain the extra amount of water.

PRESENTATION PROGRESSION Autodesk 360 was the rendering engine to produce all the views. Setting up the render views in the cloud was helpful to speed the progression of the work without waiting for long hours without functioning if the render progress were locally on the computer. Also, rendering in the cloud offers panoramic rendering and solar study as well as fine quality outcomes in vary reasonable rendering time.

PRESENTATION PROGRESSION Photoshop was a essential and useful tool to produce the rendering views after A360 outcomes. Using Photoshop for adjusting the colour and adding texture and people to apply a sense of scale to the view.

PRESENTATION PROGRESSION InDesign is the final step of producing the work which is combine all the work including this report is produced and prepare it for the board presentation.
