1. General information a. Context of the course “NFE – Next? Full Employment!" – Non formal education as a key for youth employment was a 7 days Training Course with the aim to qualify active youth leaders with SKA’s (skills, knowledge and attitudes) using non-formal education to promote youth employment in local level. The training course gathered 30 young people from 24 countries, including Programme Countries, South East Europe, Eastern Europe and Caucasus and Mediterranean Partner Countries. The training course sets as principal objectives to analyze the situation which young people in Europe are facing at working level, to encourage their sense of initiative and to propose alternative solutions based on non-formal education as a method to empower youth. During these days, trainees experienced and learnt how non-formal education can increase employability skills of youth and make them more prepared to face the competitive labor market. Planned activities gave participants the space to take an active role, express themselves and share good practices concerning youth policies and strategies about youth employment on the different country realities. They had the opportunity to share their experience, to debate and discuss, discover the needs of their communities, work on simulations, lead and be leaded by each other, to learn from each other and experience situations through the use of non-formal methods which were implemented according to the needs of the participants. As one of several outcomes, we created action plans for future projects, which our participants will act as multipliers that will organize different local and international activities within the non-formal education for unemployed youth and with fewer opportunities due to social exclusion.

1

b. Aim The training course sets as aim to analyse the situation which young people in Europe are facing at working level, to encourage their sense of initiative and to propose alternative solutions based on non-formal education as a method to empower youth.

e. Methodology used Throughout the project we made sure that the methodology was based on the principles of non-formal learning making sure that it was learner-centred and participatory; that learning was aimed at developing essential skills, attitudes and values and that participation in the training was voluntary. We furthermore took into account an intercultural approach to learning, respecting the diversity of experiences and aspirations, and also diversity of learning needs. A key element of learning is learning through experience, meaning group experiences on the site of the training and previous experiences of participants. Among key methodological aspects, we quote group work, active participation, theoretical and practical inputs, and simulation/case-study exercises referring to the environments where participants usually carry out their youth work. Thanks to these methodological aspects, participants were active learners and also contributed to the group learning. In this respect, participants contributed and had ownership over the learning during the training

2. Trainers evaluation a. Preparation (ex.: How did you prepare the course, how did you develop needs assessment, how did the cooperation in the team go, did you receive all necessary materials to prepare for the course) For the preparation, the trainers met several times on Skype. The first meeting was together with Jo達o Dias from MOJU who wrote the project. He provided us with the background of the project, objectives and the draft programme. We divided the programme among the trainers and agreed they would prepare the sessions individually after which we would provide feedback to each other. The session outlines were placed in a dropbox folder to which also Jo達o had access.

4

Despite good intentions, the preparation of the course was a bit rocky. Due to the busy schedules it was hard to find moments when we could meet. It took sometimes too long to answer e-mails and the form for session outlines was sent quite late in the process. There was some constructive feedback on this through e-mail. Nevertheless, these challenges, we managed to finish the large majority of the session outlines by the beginning of the training course. This is surely an aspect that can be improved for next time. The trainers also provided some homework for the participants to prepare before the course, this was included in the participation pack. The team furthermore had a look at the applications forms of the participants in order to assess the needs and expectations. Also part of the preparation was the support for the junior trainers. Before the course Bogusia received the CIM (Competence Improvement Map). She filled the form and based on the outcomes she developed some learning objectives for the course. The senior trainer also asked her to reflect on how we could support her in the learning experience. b. Implementation (ex. General assessment of the course, how was the collaboration in the team, how was the programme flow, how did you assure the course was aimed at needs of participants) We evaluated the course as positive with a lot of interesting and new methodologies. There were some difficulties due to way the participants of this course were selected. Participants were selected by their sending organizations and we had a very unbalance group with some people that were very experienced in this topic and some people that were very new to the topic. As a result, some of the more experienced people felt that this training course didn´t bring them much new. The flow of the programme was good and natural. We feel we covered the important aspects of this issue and the way they were framed was logical. On occasions (day 2) we had some problem with time management, which made that some of the things were done a bit, rushed but in general this was quite ok.

5

Despite the fact that we saw that the course had a lot of positive points we must say that a course could be definitely be improved on a lot of levels. Below there are points to be improved on a day-to-day basis. Day 1 

Bit more time for framing the topic

In the beginning also asked why this is relevant for them

First day should stay easy day with some teambuilding (Exercises were good)

Could be a bit shorter

Setting the context session was good to put people on track

Setting to context was a bit rushed and could have had a bit more time to discuss

Add another name game would have been a good idea

6

Day 2 

Our realities, was interesting and participants were into it. This took longer and because of it we had to rush the rest of the day. Alternatively make the session longer (2h). Can also be to do the sharing in 2 groups and thus be more on time.



Challenges and Solutions. The method was really nice. some participants were not all liked it, some others liked it a lot. It suffered from lack of time and participants were not motivated to go deeper.

7

Day 3 

Competences might need more changes. We managed to talk about competences and make a list but then we didnt manage to make the link with how can you use working competences in your organisation linked with youth employment. Maybe we could considder smaller groups and assign to each group (facilitated by one team member) with the task to go deeper on a number of competences. After session, participants were still unclear about Skills, knowledge and attitudes.

Role of youth work: terminology of the papers was too difficult and could be phrased more easy. With the paper of innovation they went a bit overboard and it didn´t have anything to do anymore with the topic. Here it became clear that a lot of participants had a real lack of experience. It was a good idea not to rotate

Tasty organisations market: was nice, and self organized by participants. it was nice to change environment. It was more intercultural evening and not really organisations market. For next time maybe better not to combine it. Also, there was maybe no need as they shared already a lot with each other what they were doing in the organisation.

8

Day 4 

NFE as tool for youth employment: method was useful and appropriate. Participants once again stayed rather superficial. Maybe it would be good to end with a check list on indicators for good quality project. Good that they went back to their projects to check if they fitted these criteria

Day 5 

Mid-term: was good, short and successful

Institutions & programmes: succeeded to make a good session out of very boring stuff. Don´t change it. Maybe find some programmes for specific regions that are present in the course. SUGATA MITRA ROCKS! :)

Entrepreneurship: Too bad we didn´t have a good projector and this lost a bit the point. Too short to explain everything about this topic. Looked like the session jumped from the plane (out of context). We got out of it what was possible

9

Day 6 

Action planning: We should have started with learning objectives and then provide the handout and information on the action planning. We don´t agree on whether it was good to bring them back in the middle. Did it get them out of the flow or not. Maybe was just lack of motivation of some participants. Could be useful to call them back with concrete tasks. Be more close to participants might help.

Day 7 

Presentation of action plan: Presentations were so-so but the methodology was nice (creative).

Erasmus+: Maybe too informative (detailed) but still lots of people liked

Youth pass: No comment...was needed and we did it

Evaluation: stairs exercise was great. We should have gone through objectives and programme before written evaluation

Closing: Ok but nothing special.

10

During the course, the trainers’ team worked well together. The tasks and sessions were divided equally and communication between the trainers worked very well. There was a lot of empathy and support within the team. c. Innovation (ex.: which innovative aspects did you bring to this training course in terms of approach, methods and content) We tried to innovate during this training course mainly on the level of methodology. Every day we had at least 1 methodological tool that the large majority of the participants had no experience with. Some examples of this are (description in session outlines): 

Teambuilding game with falling chairs

Teambuilding game with cup game

Using thermometers to develop learning objectives

Objectives were presented with 1 word missing that participants needed to find

Our realities exercise used drawing to visualise the information

New methodology to sum up challenges and solutions with challenge and solution teams that were competing

Top 10 quiz to motivate people to be on time in morning and after lunch

Sugata Mitra approach to deal with theoretical input on institutions and programmes

Presentation of action plans with diverse tools to present

11

3. Participants evaluation a. Numeral evaluation

12

b. Reflections on content evaluation from trainers perspective IGOR 

They liked the methodology and variety of methods

They learned new methodologies for their own projects

Evaluation of sessions is pretty diverse but they like "easy" work

Sessions on day 2 (more challenging) - some liked and others didn´t appreciate

Participants didn´t like the food

Mostly satisfied with our work as trainers

13

BOGUSIA 

More experienced participants complained about intro part, which was appreciated by less experienced participants

Most participants appreciated concrete topics like action plans

diversity of methodologies was appreciated NUNO

application were divided between people new in the field, the middle group more experienced but still opened and more experienced who were out of the learning

they appreciated methodology and feel we achieved objectives

improvements for competences

many of them mentioned the difficulties in the group

most of the participants is satisfied with most of the facilities

c. Overview of comments from participants 1.

Logistics In general the notes regarding logistics were positive. Participants made remarks about the food (the lowest notes, mostly from 2 to 4)

that according to them was too monotonous. Also the information before the training got few lower notes (2 or 3) by four of participants. The accommodation and materials was asset mostly as excellent and the trainers between good and excellent – none of participant asset it lower.

14

2. Aims and objectives Most of the participants claim that objectives were achieved. 3 participants expected more from it and 5 didn’t give any information about it. 3. Methodology All of participants appreciated diversity of the methods used. All of them (including experienced ones) learned new methods during this training that they find useful for their future work. As the most efficient way of working the group work and debate was mentioned most often. Few participants expressed need of having more energizers. 4. Content Several different sessions was found as the most important in learning process of participants. Many of them gained the most from debate about challenges and opportunities in youth unemployment. Most of participants found creating action plan as the most important part of the training course. Moreover the informative sessions contributed a lot to learning process and developing youth work competences: good practices examples of NFE as a tool for combat unemployment, information about Erasmus + programme and employment institutions and programmes that support working on unemployment. Another session considered as the most useful was related to employability competences, however several participants – more experienced – found it the least useful.

15

5. Group All the participants felt as a part of the group. 11 of them admit their participation could be better. At the same time some of participant find the group not focused (because of using mobiles during sessions) and not listening each-other and because of that working in a big group was found more difficult. Moreover participants admit that the group was diverse. 6. Overall assessment of the seminar 22 participants out evaluated the seminar as good or very good, two didn’t asset it and one asset it as excellent.
