SILVER ANNIVERSARY
At the head of the River Spokane By the waters of Lake Coeur d' Alene Under the lofty pines and golden sun A community college stands.
Long ago on this historic ground Fort Sherman's soldiers drilled; Now stalwart lads and comely maids The key to learning found.
A service of twenty-five years to youth And community it has brought By upholding ideals and standards As measured in culture and truth. Anonymous

''I hold the world but as a world , Gratiano; A stage, where every man must play a part. " Shakespeare We , the annual staff, wish to dedicate this 58-59 Driftwood to John Millheisler. 5
PRESIDENT This article is being written on Sunday, October 26, 1958 on a flight from Portland to Coeur d'Alene . It will not be read until approximately one year from now, if it is read at all. The question is, what can one write now that will make significant reading one year from now? On the left we are passing Mt. Adams and a plane passenger is hurriedly getting his camera ready to take a picture of its high snow-covered slopes. In the distance, to the north, I can see the early morning sun reflected from the sides of Mt. Rainier, and by squinting through the sun-lit haze I can see Mt. Hood to the south. Of course the plane is passing over many lesser mountain peaks and hills which are hardly noticed beside the majesty of the few taller ones. One year from now, --perhaps even a million years from now, barring any major earth movements , Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier and all the other majestic peaks which now attract our admiration will continue to do so, and for countless generations to come. It is a good thing that all the peaks do not have the majesty and the grandeur that these few have, else they would lose their greatness in the anonymity of countless others , and there would be no smaller peaks and hills to provide the timber growth and water sheds which are so essential to our way of life. whether in the field of sports, of science, or literature or what. But we must not reflected glory of their more brilliant associates.
•
a crew of technicians; for every university president there must be a corps of loyal and erals would get little fighting done. There must always be those who lead and those who other." for leadership through education and practice; and these cannot be leaders without as the other . G. 0 . Kildow 7
FROM OUR
All of us admire those people who have risen to great heights of accomplishment, forget those of lesser talents who must live in the shadows , or at best, bask in the For every star there must be supporting actors; for every engineer there must be qualified teachers; and that is the way it should be. An army made up entirely of genserve. Like the popular song on love and marriage, ''You can't have one without the Let us not lose sight of the fact that those who would be leaders must first prepare loyal followers . Both are necessary to our way of life, and one is just as important

The Engineers ' Club takes field trips each year to see engineering in practice. Many members went to Noxon Dam, to the Spokane Engineering and Foundry Company, and to observe the Belt Highway projects. Movies and speakers were featured at the many dinners which the club had. This enabled members to get acquainted with the engineering field.
CLUB
As the final event of the year , they sponsored the Engineers ' Ball. This formal dance was held at the Clark House.

PTK CONVENTION Both teachers and students were one big flurry of excitement and activitity when preparing for the National Phi Theta Kappa Convention held at NIJC April 21, 22, and 23. NIJC was featured in the National PTK magazine, warranted a special edition of the NIJC Review, and was loudly praised for its outstanding performance as host. The high-light of the convention was the election of Paul
Weenig to first vice -presidency. PTK members: remember the boat ride, the banquet, the reception, the dance; but above all, remember the friends you met from all over the nation, and the fun you had preparing for their visit.
Swearing in new national officers
