June 2, 1950

THE PRESIDENT

T0 ALL ST"DEf'TS AND FRIE!JDS OF

~i . I.

J . C.

The theme of this year 's LEWA is concerned with the element of transi.tion :

from the old to the new.

The seeds sovm in the past are

gPrminating in the pr esent and the prospects are for a vizorous fruit which will sustain and vitalize the future . When one is accustomed to looking baclmard, ever y year is t r ansitional . antl the

There is a perpetual blendine of t he old and the ne w, the past pr~sent .

This blending process , this synthesizing and synchron-

izing of human experience is the thing in which we are most inter ested at Ilorth I daho Junior College . That which has been found to be true in the past must mark our progress into the future; that which has value to have value tomorrow .

i~

the present is likely

However , that is not always the case , and therein

lies one of our biggest problems .

To sort out the chaff from the wheat ,

the essential from the non- essential, the true from the false , is the co11sta'1t duty of both student and t eacher .

He must :-earch , we must

challenge , and ·ve must.meet the problems of our times .

If the experience

of th--' past can help, let us dra": on them· to solvc our problems ; if not , let us face the future ,·Jit'.: confidsnc•, firm in det rmination of our f ounding fat1ers has been unqu~nchable

th~

conviction that the

bequeath~d

to us as an

h.:?rita[;e .

So , fon:ard , you men and women of l'.orth Idaho Junior Collet;e , for ward ~

Mindful of the past , yes .

Dilieent in the present , of course !

Searching into the future , above all ! ForwarLl to a greater and more glorious service to mankind .
