Georgina Georgina has a background in athletics, competing for England/Kent, with over 10 years of Personal Training experience & 5 years experience in sports massage, Georgina believes health and fitness is the combination of quality training, good nutrition and having serious fun and enjoyment. Personal training with Georgina is all about working together to get you from where you are, to where you want to be, making a positive and lasting difference to your life. Georgina helps achieve this by incorporating progressive and forward thinking into your training without forgetting proven methods. Matt I have been qualified as an Instructor/PT for 11 years so far, having qualified at the University of East London...the same venue as the US Olympic weightlifting team trained at during the 2012 Olympics, may I add. Nick Nick studied Sports and Exercise Science at Canterbury Christchurch University. He has a lifelong love for all things sport, which makes him a natural born coach. Nick has been a competitive athlete for most of his life, training and competing at national level in basketball, pole vault and middle distance & cross country running. His most recent achievement is representing Kent at the intercounty racketball championships. Nick has a genuine passion for exercise, fitness and personal development, including bettering people’s mental and physical health. In his spare time, you will normally find Nick playing racketball, squash or padel, on his road bike or training for an obstacle course race or mud run!

MEMBERSHIP CARDS Please ensure that your membership card has been updated to the new barcoded card. In order to produce the card we require a photo ID. If we haven't already updated your card please go to the Wellbeing & Fitness Desk to have your photo taken this month. Unfortunately, we cannot issue new membership cards without a photo ID or allow you to use the Club.
SCANNING IN & OUT For health and safety reasons we require all members to scan in and out at the Wellbeing & Fitness Desk. Failure to do so may result in termination of membership.
MEMBERSHIP TIMES Please remember the club usage times apply to your membership type. It is important that you adhere to these, otherwise we will be forced to withdraw your membership.
GYM USE We advise that all members seek guidance from the Wellbeing Team before using any new or unfamiliar equipment. Please note the gym is unsupervised at various times of the day. If you are pregnant, have injuries and / or medical problems or have not used gym equipment before please contact a Wellbeing Coach prior to use. For health and safety reasons please ensure you are wearing suitable exercise clothing and trainers when using the Gym. Use of the Gym and equipment is at your own risk.

Remembering the Legacy of
Mrs. Dorothy Purdew OBE
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved owner, Mrs. Dorothy Purdew OBE. Last month, we bid farewell to a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many with her vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment to wellness.
with an OBE in 2008. She penned her autobiography, “The Long Road to Champneys,” in 2010, a testament to her incredible journey.
Mrs. Purdew’s journey was one of resilience and determination. She firmly believed in living life to the fullest, and even at the age of 91, her enthusiasm for beauty trends, culinary delights from our chefs, and the progress of our apprentices remained undiminished.
Even in her nineties, she remained an active and inspiring presence, constantly seeking ways to enhance the guest experience. For her, educating people about dieting and the joy of exercise was not just a mission—it was a labour of love.
Her enduring legacy lies in her transformation of the health-farm model from a dated image of enforced weight-loss and lettuce-leaf diets to a more holistic and 21st-century concept of “wellness.” As we pay tribute to her, let us remember that she defied all odds, proving that someone from a working-class background could become one of the world’s most influential spa operators.
On a personal note I have worked for Mrs Purdew for 29 years. She was a mentor, exceptional leader, a source of motivation, and a guiding light in my professional life. It is an honour to have had the privilege of working alongside her and being a part of and witness to her incredible achievements and Champneys success. To those of you who have known and cherished Mrs. Purdew for many years, we invite you to pay your respects by leaving your tributes in our digital book of condolence. Dorothy Rose Sanders, born in 1932, faced humble beginnings in Clapham, South London. Her early years were marked by adversity, but her resilience prevailed. She left formal education at the age of 14 and embarked on a journey that eventually led her to build an empire centered on well-being.

Marriage, motherhood, and a personal health challenge led her to the path of entrepreneurship. After losing five stone with Weight Watchers, she was inspired to start her own slimming club, WeightGuard. Despite initial setbacks, her determination saw her empire grow to 70 clubs. In 1981, she acquired Henlow Grange health farm, a turning point that would revolutionise the wellness industry. Her vision encompassed a more sophisticated approach, leaving behind the days of crowded treatment rooms filled with smoke and vitamin buckets. Her guests were now treated to well-balanced meals and a truly holistic experience.
In memory of Mrs. Dorothy Purdew OBE, let us continue her legacy by embracing wellness, celebrating life, and pursuing our passions with unwavering determination.
