NIKOLIC STUDIO - Since establishing an independent studio, I have collaborated with architects across Norway on developing exciting and user focused projects. The Studio focuses on early stage design and concept development. Specifically on projects with high level of user involvement. AFRY ARK STUDIO NORWAY - While working with AFRY I got a chance to participate in wide variety of projects, spanning from single family houses and villas to large infrastructure projects and master plans, including bridges, stadiums and transportation hubs. MOR TEAM - comprised of best TU Delft students for the Solar Decathlon Europe‘19 competition. As a co-founder of this multidisciplinary team, I dealt with the team management as well as being constantly involved with all stages of design. Towards the end of the project, I took over the construction organisation and management, mediating between more than 80 professional partners from the building industry and our student team. FESTIVAL STAGE DESIGN & FABRICATION - in cooperation with the international team from Wroclaw University, I have designed and constructed a fibreglass/ cardboard festival stage, within the larger exploration project of investigating the potential of paper in architecture. PLAYGROUND CONSTRUCTION - together with the team from Chalmers University of Technology, I have constructed a timber playground for a newly build neighbourhood in the outskirts of Göteborg.

SELECTED WORKS EARLY STAGE - USER FOCUSED In order to present myself and my way of thinking, this portfolio showcases a variety of topics explored during the last few years of my architectural career. The focus lies on early stage design and concept development centred around the user experience, while occasionally following trough the entire span of the project, until it’s completion and more importantly, use.

TRANSIT HUB Lugano, Switzerland - AFRY Ark Studio Located only 10 minutes away from the Lugano lake and the historic centre, this area represents an entry way into the city. The cars are left behind in the underground facility, and large amount of people is transferred to a public transport network that distributes them around the city. The focus of the project is to facilitate this, and turn in into a pleasant, safe and exciting experience.

CYCLING BRIDGE Lillestrom, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio The light and elegant bridge concept creates main entryway to the new Lillestrom elementary school. It connects two sides of the canal, completing the green riverside walk and bike way, and eliminating the need for school children to interact with the nearby road network. The subtle s-curve increases biking safety by providing speed and distance reference, while the low key structure of the bridge allows for the surrounding nature to keep the main act.

SEASIDE VILLA Nesoya, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio This private villa facilitates the clients desire for connection to the shoreline and the sea, by providing unobstructed fjord views and blurry boundary between the indoor and outdoor living space. In service of shoreline preservation, the villa sinks into the supporting hillside and interacts with the natural boulders already present on site.

COMMUNITY EMERGENCY BUILDING Asker, Norway - Gottlieb Paludan Architects “Askerholmen Varmehuset”, serves as a community centre for the people in need. Containing a small emergency room and short therm housing, it provides help for the people with substance abuse and mental illness problems. With this in mind, the centre is designed paying special attention to safety of its users, implementing specialty design guidelines for preventing incidental and conscious self-harm, while still providing natural and warm environment.

URBAN CENTRE MASTERPLAN Lorensko, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio The urban centre provides a dense, pedestrian focused zone in the centre of the housing area in the outskirts of Oslo. Proximity to the metro station and connection that it provides to the city centre makes this an ideal zone for such a task. Masterplan is developed with the focus on preservation of the existing greenery, while creating an area that is vibrant and rich with public service .

COMMUNITY CENTER WITH HOUSING Korsgata, Norway - Gottlien Paludan Architects Aligned with the densification goals for the area, this compact plot houses a ground floor community centre with a rooftop garden and two condensed residential towers. The small apartments are enhanced by the common functions that the building provides, increasing social interaction and neighbourhood feeling between the residents.

FACADE REHABILITATION - SOCIAL HOUSING Oslo, Norway - Gottlieb Paludan Architects Within the facade rehabilitation, of this large social housing building in the centre of Oslo, larger windows, more insulation and balconies were added to each of the tiny apartments. Since the budget was restricted, in order to provide most beneficial upgrades, creative cost saving tools were used. This includes complete off site prefabrication of facade elements and balconies, as well as realising the whole renovation process efficiently, without having to more the residents out of the building.

MICRO APARTMENT - HOUSING Oslo, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio This pilot project explored the potential of micro apartments in the heart of Oslo. The small volume of this tower mixes gently with the park surrounding the city river, while the tiny apartments relay on the great location and the shared amenities in the base of the building, to provide the quality of housing situation, so that it creates true and loved homes.

ASSISTED LIVING - DESIGN MANUAL Arnes, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio Developing an elderly, assisted living area, attached to the town hospital proved to be an interesting social task. Focus lied on ease of living while still allowing for a sense of independence and agency. The main accent is on the connection between private and public outdoor space, where the maintenance effort for the residents is minimal, while still being allowed to portray individual character. This encourages the residents to stay engaged and facilitates social interaction.

COMMERCIAL BUILDING EXTENSION Billingstad, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio Vertical expansion of the commercial building on the Billingstadsletta created the opportunity to provide the housing neighbourhood on the hillside above with some missing public service spaces (small shops, “third places”, etc.). While the two story high extension provided protection against the noisy street, it also created a small square-like space for public use, on the back side. In addition, extending the green terrain onto the roof of the new building, a viewing platform with a small caffe pavilion emerged.

FOOTBALL STADIUM Bodo, Norway - Gottlieb Paludan Architects After a successful season, Bodo Glimt FK had a desire for new stadium. The proposal includes a submerged playing field, so that it creates an exciting and inviting view from the street level, with no walls to block the visitors view even while approaching the stadium. Further, asymmetrically inclined roof structure, consequential to the prevailing winds in the area, provides shelter, as well as amazing viewing platforms counterlevering over the field edge.

TUNNEL ENTRYWAY Halogaland, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio As a part of the E-10 road network in the far north of Norway, we have designed a modular tunnel entryway structure. In collaboration with lighting designers, the structure is configured so that it creates a smooth transition between the dark roads and the brightly illuminated tunnels, during the long winter nights in the Norwegian fjords.

ROADSIDE PAVILION Halogaland, Norway - AFRY Ark Studio Integral part of the remote road infrastructure are the roadside resting areas. These provide important reference points and protected zones for bus stops, ev charging, or just a road-trip breaks in the beautiful fjord scenery. Since the focus in this protected area has to be on nature preservation, the modular pavilions are designed in such a way that they can be prefabricated and brought on site, and eventually removed, as if noting was ever there.

URBAN CENTER MASTERPLAN Billingstad, Norway - Gottlieb Paludan Architects As our cities expand, the areas that were once on the outskirts, occupied mostly by warehouses and parking lots have to be redesigned for a more suitable purpose. This large master-plan was developed with accompanying design handbook that describes a transformation process from that “big box”, asphalt dominated area, into the thriving, pedestrian focused urban centre, that provides variety of public functions as well as nature filled, calm housing area.

BATTERY CELL FACTORY Stavanger area, Norway - Gottlieb Paludan Architects Large manufacturing facilities traditionally don’t have a good image. Therefore, the focus here was to create a place with pleasant working environment for the employees and introduce some engaging aspects for the nearby town residents. This is achieved by creating large green roof terraces with stunning views of the surrounding landscape and introducing the innovation centre where visitors can learn about the ground-breaking technology being developed there.
