JetBlue takes delivery of Airbus A321neo with reimagined Mint suites.

From Summer 2021, transatlantic passengers will be able travel in greater comfort than ever, following the first major design overhaul of Mint. Having first launched the Mint concept with lieflat beds back in 2014, Jet Blue enlisted Acumen Design Associates to elevate the experience for its new Airbus A321neo aircraft.

At the start of their creative journey, the London-based studio examined the lifestyle of the typical Jet Blue passenger, and having recognised the blurring between business and leisure travel, developed a philosophy known as Seamless Living. The idea was to create a space that would allow for multi-tasking, where travellers could use multiple devices, and work and eat simultaneously.

Acumen began by removing the bulky stowages of the original concept and replacing them with flat, user-friendly surfaces. They then introduced dedicated stowage for laptops, handbags and shoes, and with connectivity in mind, incorporated a unique smartphone holder and intuitively-placed power ports, USB connections and wireless charging facilities. Each Mint suite features a tilting 17-inch Thales Avant seatback screen and a sliding door for privacy, while the all-new Mint Studios – an innovation conceptualised by Acumen and developed in partnership with Aim Altitude – feature the largest lie-flat bed of any US carrier (based on total reclined bed surface area).

JetBlue is the first to outfit its aircraft with Thompson Aero Seating’s Vantage Solo seat too, a revolutionary single aisle solution with herringbone configuration developed for narrowbody aircraft and further customised for Jet Blue. For added comfort, the airline has partnered with mattress company Tuft & Needle to create a foam seat cushion with breathable cover and a memory foam-lined pillow. The reimagined cabin also features residential-inspired finishes such as textured suede, soft vegan leather and woodgrain, while first-of-its-kind mood lighting creates a calming environment.
