Chelsom LED Eye
Chelsom has been awarded the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 for its new LED reading light, LED Eye. The globally renowned contest is judged by a panel of experts from a variety of industries, with thousands of products from over 60 countries evaluated on design quality and innovation. When designing the LED Eye collection, Will and Robert Chelsom wanted to disrupt the status quo in reading light design by fusing original aesthetics and raw functionality. “The starting point was to create a product that nestled into a headboard with minimum projection whilst serving as a decorative accent to an interior scheme,” explains Will Chelsom, Managing Director. “It had to start with the look of the product, but quickly we focused all of our efforts on creating a thoroughly advanced mechanical design that made the LED Eye easy to use and essential to any guestroom.” www.chelsom.co.uk
Jung KNX System
Jung’s KNX System – a cross-product and cross-national communication system for data transfer between all smart devices – is billed as the only globally uniform standard for system technology, meeting the tough demands of the yacht sector. The German manufacturer’s units, featuring button and rotary sensors, increase convenience in every cabin and provide more security aboard superyachts. The smart technology can control comfort aspects such as lighting, room climate or multimedia functions, as well as providing security and access control with the surveillance of energy consumption and the supervision of automatic cameras. The unit’s modular design also means the on-board network and system technology can be extended or reconfigured at any time. Available in 63 original Les Couleurs Le Corbusier colours and partly finished by hand, the switches and frames integrate into any interior scheme. All of Jung’s product lines can be implemented with the KNX system, blending intelligent system technology with sophisticated design. www.jung.de
Integra Fragrances Scenting and Sanitisation
With air quality a primary concern for the cruise industry, Integra Fragrances – a scent branding company based in Italy – has developed a system for the scenting and sanitisation of largescale public spaces. The remote-controlled device fits neatly into existing HVAC ducts and nebulises Benzalkonium Chloride – a safe active ingredient recommended worldwide against Covid-19. An atomiser transforms the liquid solution into an aerosol, which enters the public space via air ducts and sanitises both the air and surfaces within; despite its virucidal and bactericidal qualities, it is compatible with all surface materials, from marble, stone and wood to leather, fabric and metal, as well as plants. The fine mist can be administered for a few minutes every hour, or for longer periods following high guest capacity, according to a protocol tested to be effective against coronavirus. The technology aims to create safer and more pleasant environment on both passenger ships and private vessels. Integra Fragrances’ usual line of business involves the development of tailor-made scent identities to help brands create unique, memorable experiences. Clients include Bvlgari, Fendi and Ferragamo, with each fragrance designed to tell a story. For Emirates, the company has developed an olfactory identity that recalls the enigmatic charm of the Middle East thanks to an exotic blend of agarwood, Bulgarian rose, vanilla and ambergris. To complete the experience, the full line of products includes scented bookmarks and notebooks, reed diffusers and VIP amenities, while for sanitisation there’s hand-gel and surface spray. www.integra-fragrances.com

CASE STUDY
Robos Contract Furniture Wonder of the Seas
After furnishing two of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships, Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas, Robos Contract Furniture is now working behind the scenes on their successor: Wonder of the Seas.
Set to become the largest cruise ship in the world, the fifth vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class will measure 362m long and accommodate over 6,900 passengers.
Currently under construction at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, Wonder of the Seas is scheduled for completion in early 2022, with Asia as its home port.
In addition to the standard seven neighbourhoods found on Oasis Class ships, Wonder of the Seas will feature an eighth: the Suite Neighbourhood – an area exclusively for suite guests.
Excluding public areas such as destination restaurant Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, all of the vessel’s suites – including those specially designed for the Chinese market, which feature billiard and printed tables – and crew areas are set to be furnished by Robos, who will also supply the outdoor furniture on-board, marking an expanded role following the success of Harmony and Symphony.
The entire installation will be carried out in-house too; from the end of June 2021, a specialist Robos team will be on-board to handle the floor installations. Based in France, the team will be on-hand for a prolonged period of time to ensure that everything runs smoothly, right down to the smallest of details. www.rbslabel.nl
