Estranged Student Support Package
What’s available? There is support available throughout the University. Here are the key points: • A named contact whilst you study – for those times when you aren’t quite sure what to do or where to get help! • Support obtaining your full student finance entitlement • Priority access to the Swansea University Opportunity Award to help with additional costs over the summer • All year round accommodation • A direct referral service for the Wellbeing Service, Disability Office and Centre for Academic success.
What does “estranged” mean? The term ‘estranged student’ is used to refer to young students who are studying without the support of a family network. Students who are estranged have no communicative relationship with either of their living biological parents and this can often have a huge impact on students whilst they study. For this reason, Swansea University offer a support package to assist you in these circumstances. If you are unsure if you meet the criteria above, get in touch and discuss your circumstances with one of our named contacts.
What do I need to do? • Get in touch ASAP! Let us know your circumstances so we can book an appointment for you to meet with an advisor. • Provide documentation to show your estrangement (this will also be needed by Student Finance). The exact documentation required will be discussed when you first meet with one of our advisors.
