Vocabulary *Emotions are physical and psychological reactions to a certain event or something that has happened to us. Emotions are produced in an automatic and spontaneous way, they are translatorial and can be observed in an external way; in other words, they don’t last forever. In 1972, after having been studying emotions of the Fore tribe in Papua New Guinea, Paul Ekman and Wallace Friensen understood there are six basic, universal, emotions: joy, fear, disgust, sadness, anger, surprise. This emotions are considered the basis of everything human beings feel.

*Sadness is an emotional, it’s a natural human emotion. Like other emotions, sad feelings come and go. Some sad feelings last only a moment, some last longer. When sad feelings ease away, a happier mood can take their place. *Anger is one of the basic emotions. It is an inherited response, and is common to all people. It happens when we are threatened, offended, wronged, or denied something we really want or need. Rage is the strongest form of anger. *Fear is a powerful emotion that can also play an important role in survival. It’s an emotion much like anxiety. A person who fears something does not want it to happen, because they think something bad will happen to them if it does. Fear is the body’s way of protecting itself from doing things that may be dangerous.

*Disgust: Disgust is another of the original basic emotions. It’s a sense of revulsion that can be originated from a number of things, including unpleasant taste, sight or smell. Researchers believe this emotion evolved as a reaction to foods that might be harmful or fatal. *Happiness: of all the different types of emotions, happiness tends to be the one that people strive for the most. It is often defined as a pleasant emotional state that is characterised by feelings of contentment, gratification, satisfaction and well-being. *Joy: A feeling of great pleasure and happiness. *Surprise is an emotion that a person might feel if something unexpected happens. The feeling of surprise can be both good or bad. It’s the astonishment

you feel when something totally unexpected happens. It’s usually brief and its characterised by a psychological startle response following something unexpected. --- ---Cherry, K. (2020, January 13).
