Project: Residential Loft Location: 126 W Bay St. Savannah, Georgia Clients: Alexander and Sarah Culpepper The Culpepper’s residence is an adaptive reuse of the 1820’s Cotton Warehouse building. Its design preserves the building’s historic structure and architectural properties while engaging the client’s style and a industrial feel in the space. Alexander and Sarah are a couple in their 50’s moving from New York to the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia. Alexander is a knowledgeable writer who makes a comfortable living with his books. Both enjoy reading, watching films, their painting collection as well as spending time in open and airy spaces.

[Left] As soon as visitors enter the Culpepper loft, they will be encountered with the sculptural three-part pendant that engages the tall ceiling with the rest of the space. This is a view from the storage room to the entrance foyer. It also show the industrial glass and metal stairs that lead to where the master bedroom is located. [Middle] View of the hallway to the library and the clients’ favorite space. It also show some of the selected items including ceiling lamps, barn doors, and wood planks that accentuate both the wall and ceiling. [Right] Alexander’s workspace, the custom-made bookshelves and his writing desk are shown in this view. The window looks out to Savannah River where Sarah enjoys to watch boats pass by.

[Left] The living area of the loft. Here is where Alexander and Sarah will welcome their guests and exhibit some of their owned art pieces. It has an accent sofa in aquamarine upholstery that brings back the color of the custom-made bookshelves in the library. [Right] This view show the master bethroom looking towards the walk-in closet and the bathroom. The wall that gives more privacy to the bathroom in the open plan. The ceiling’s wood slabs tie the design with the library’s. At the same time they also address the elongated room and brings a sense of rustic warmth to the room.
