THE INTERNATIONAL ART WORKSHOP GLUDSTED 2015 DENMARK

Beyond its benefits for individuals, art influences the well-being of society as a whole. It fosters social and intercultural understanding and respect for others. Through art we can contribute to the economic prosperity of societies. At a time of economic crisis, it is worth stressing, that the creative economy is one of the fastest growing branches of economy. Thus, by increasing art and art education, we boost economic growth, social development as well as innovation and cohesion. Thus, artists and art educators are producer of well-being. Henna Virkkunen, Minister of Education and Sciences, The InSEA European Congress 2010, Lapland University, Finland

Gludsted is the place of The International Art Workshop (2015), which is situated in this small village, sited within nostalgic landscape far away from city centers and the bustle of civilization. For the group of artists from all over the world who were invited there, the workshop was a unique chance to focus on creative work without being distracted and restricted by dozens of unnecessary daily activities. From another perspective, the workshop was an excellent example of international integration, promoting the idea that getting closer through art is really very important and valuable. Working under the same roof lets us discover a similar way of thinking, similar kinds of sensitivity and imagination whilst having some rules embedded forever due to direct application of tradition. It reveals also what is different, what make us distinguishable. This is very important because being aware of such differences creates one’s own identity. The exhibition was arranged at the end of the art workshop and presented an abundant variety of techniques and themes, as well as the amount of works of art we completed. It is worth emphasizing what a fantastic and encouraging work atmosphere it was – a real driving force for all of us. The set of artworks, which are found in the catalog, show the results of our artistic activity. Unfortunately, this is only a small part of what was made and presented in Gludsted during the final exhibition on July 2015. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the great commitment shown by all the citizens of Gludsted and their openness and faith in the potential of art, an international workshop extended its formula far beyond the horizon of art. I would like to thank the chairman of the workshop – Jane Henneberg and the artist curator – Steen Rasmussen for perfectly organizing everything that was connected with our stay in Gludsted. I want to express also my special thanks to Minna Helms who shared with us her optimism and positive energy. Many thanks also to a number of institutions and individuals that contributed in so many different ways in making this such a wonderful success. Małgorzata Bielecka
