Live Playback in 4K or 2K: In 4K live playback 4 individual HD signals (1929x1080) are provided by the four HDMI outputs. This fourquadrant-signal can be connected directly at appropriate 4K displays or 4K projectors (please see following page). It is also possible to receive an down-converted 4K signal at the HDMI output during recording. This signal has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and can be reproduced with standard monitors and projectors. With the trimming function (picture below) you can choose the 2K cropping option just by touching the LCD.
Full HD (1920x1080) trimming function: Just by touching the LCD! You can obtain Full HD image from any part the 4K2K frame.

Playback from the GY-HMQ10:
4K2K
HDMI output x4 (HDMI Ver 1.3) Displaying 4K recordings or live video is ideally performed on a native 4K monitor or projector. JVC and a number of other manufacturers offer such projectors, typically used in theaters and other large screen venues. Recently, some manufacturers have introduced LCD monitors with 3840 x 2160 panels and with inputs for 4K signals. It is expected that more panels such as this will become available in the coming years. Professional 4K monitors and projectors typically have four inputs, one for each screen quadrant. The GY-HMQ10 connects to these monitors using the 4 HDMI outputs provided on the camcorder. If the monitor or projector is equipped with separate DVI or HDSDI inputs, then adapter cables or interface boxes must be used. If no 4K monitor is available, a standard HD monitor may be used since GY-HMQ10 provides a downconverted HD signal via its HDMI interface.

Patented “FOCUS ASSIST” function: Achieving exact focus with 4K2K signals is critical. JVC’s Focus Assist turns focusing into a fast, easy and accurate process. When Focus Assist is activated, the picture in the viewfinder becomes monochrome and all objects which are in focus appear with colored edges. Focus Assist works in the viewfinder as well as on the LCD panel. With this function even the slightest nuances in focus can be detected. The Focus Assist function can be assigned to any of the USER buttons. Example: red edge = optimal focus, green edge = slight defocusing, blue edge = medium defocusing, no edge = unfocused. Additionally you can enlarge the image by touching the display.

Hints for editing the 4K material (Workflow): When recording in 4K you will get four individual clips each with 1920x1080 pixels. These clips are recorded in MP4 format and can be edited with current editing programs. Please investigate whether your current editing program enables the processing and composition of 4 individual files to a complete file as optimal processing is only guaranteed if four individual files can be composed to a complete file with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixel. This is possible with Apple Final Cut Pro or X for example. A certain amount of manual effort is also required to position these four quadrants or picture components. For this purpose JVC provides a special software tool, which merges the four quadrants to one file automatically. This software tool automatically copies the material from the camera to the hard disk and unites all four files. Condition for the application of this merge tool software is Final Cut 7, X or Compressor. This software tool will shortly be available for download from our homepage. As you will understand this process can take some time due to the high resolution and data volume. This time depends on the performance of the computer systems used. We recommend you use a computer with a minimum performance of 8 up to 12 Core. This capability lets you achieve a conversion of 4x HD to 1x 2840x2640 pixels in appr. six to four times real time. For example: you need 4 till 6 minutes to get a one minute composed file in 4K resolution. Other editing system manufacturers are working on igual integration possibilities. Please note: Reading of individual files in your systems can be done: a) by removal of the SD card from the camera and read by SD card reader or b) by direct connection of camera by USB. If you want to receive some test files for checking with your system, please contact us directly. Also you can download shortly some examples from our homepage. a) Test files are available from end of February b) Mac tool software is available from end of March.
