to the Michaelmas Term Monkton Community events programme
It is a pleasure to welcome you to this term’s What’s On Guide. I hope those of you who are new to Monkton will find this guide useful and informative, as well as an exciting flavour of key dates in the diary for the whole of our Monkton community to look forward to.
Marking the start of each academic year is the return of the annual Senior School House Music Festival held at The Forum which is always a highlight of the Michaelmas events calendar. Far from being the traditional public school, ‘house shout’, this is a key part of our pastoral work in the first few weeks of life at Monkton as our pupils learn to work together, trust one another and take risks together, culminating in every pupil in the school singing and dancing in front of an audience of over 1000!
We look forward to celebrating further sporting success following a number of international caps last year. With a calendar full of girls’ hockey and boys’ rugby fixtures, we will have pupils representing nationally and internationally in rowing, biathlon, swimming. For our rowers, early morning training leads up to autumn races and Monkton Bluefriars along the Avon, as well as the Pairs’ Head of the River race.
It is always a joy to welcome people from across our community including some of our OM’s who will return for their ‘Ten Years On’ reunion. Our Monkton Parent Community will be hosting multiple coffee mornings at both the Prep and Senior
Schools, as well as an exciting outdoor cinema showing of ‘Matilda’ and the bonfire night firework display, with more details within this guide.
Our Expressive Arts department will be hosting a number of greatly anticipated events, including another spectacular Senior School drama production, the fantastic Christmas Lollipop Concert, the return of the Year 7 play and delightful end of year Nativity plays at the Prep School, which in previous years have surprised audiences with stable animals in the cast, so who knows what will happen.
A poignant end to the school term, our whole school will gather once again at Bath Abbey, welcoming family members to share again the message of the angels throwing open the doors of the Abbey and pouring out into the city and our holidays.
Of course the best thing about all of these events is the chance to meet other pupils, their families and staff at so much of what we do; I look forward to seeing many of you in the coming weeks and do always come and say hello to me if you get the chance; I am more shy than many people think and am always grateful for the parent who takes time to chat.
