Bursaries at Monkton Transforming Lives
Since our foundation, Monkton has financially supported pupils who are disadvantaged in some way through our bursary provision.
We offer transformational bursaries to those from the most challenging situations, both from the UK and overseas, and provide varying levels of support to families who are not in a position to pay full fees. Through our focus on pastoral care with boarding at the heart of the School, we offer a safe place for these children to thrive, whilst creating a diverse and vibrant school community.
In the last 10 years, thanks to the generous support of our community, we have provided £5.9million in bursaries to just under 300 pupils!
What Can I Support?
Whilst the School is committed to contributing financially to our bursaries, we rely on the generosity of our community two provide greater support to families in need. There are 3 main funds you can support:
Transformational Bursaries
Are life-changing bursaries designed to help those most in need. For example, we support pupils from war-torn countries or challenging home environments; we partner with organisations such as the Royal Springboard Foundation to identify young people for whom Monkton could make a significant difference. Often providing recipients with a
safe place away from challenging circumstances, these bursaries aim to fully support students throughout their time at Monkton.
“Receiving a bursary to come to Monkton was a true blessing in disguise - it opened my eyes to a whole new world in which I immersed myself completely. I experienced so many new things, along with a true sense of community and brotherhood. I made lifelong friends, and gained connections which have now helped me in my career. I’m truly grateful.”
Mike, OM 2016, Springboard Bursary Recipient
The Hardship Fund
Exists to families who fall on hard times while their child is studying us, either through providing additional fee support, or through helping provide a holistic experience to pupils through covering the cost of field trips, uniform, and more. This fund will help support families for whom the addition of VAT on school fees will be a significant challenge, particularly for those with children in key GCSE and A Level years, and cover the increase in fees for our current bursary recipients.
We understand that members of our community will have different interests, and so will want to support different funds. Regular donations help us to plan financially for the future, but every donation, whatever size, goes directly to support our pupils and makes a huge difference!
Christian Leadership Bursaries
Provide Sixth Form places for young people who would benefit from the exceptional pastoral and academic support offered at Monkton, and actively be involved in the Christian life of the School.
“Monkton is an incredible environment, having a bursary to come here has made one of the biggest differences to my life; being on of CU committee was such a privilege, I’ve had opportunities I wouldn’t have had elsewhere, and I’ve been part of a boarding house which I have loved.” Elizabeth, OM 2023, CLB Recipient
“It may take a village to raise a child but it takes a school to fire their interests and give them ambition to build their future. We have seen such extraordinary journeys from our bursary recipients, and we love hearing how they have gone on to change the lives of others as they head out into the world. Giving to Bursaries at Monkton not only changes one life today, it changes thousands of lives over a lifetime.”
Chris Wheeler, Principal
Bursaries at Monkton not only transform the lives of those who receive them, but so often these pupils go on to have a significant impact on those around them in school…
Pupil V is thriving at Monkton; he is focused on achieving the best grades he can, and demonstrates a mature attitude towards his learning. He has loved playing rugby and enjoyed the camaraderie of his teammates. He is a key member of the boarding house and has made an effort this year to help the younger students adapt to life in senior school. He is a hardworking and talented student who has a real positive influence on his house and the wider school community.
Tutor Report
Pupil A has brought a really positive approach to school life. I love her enthusiasm and also her “have a go” attitude, which is infectious. She may not be aware of it, but I think her love of sport and enjoyment of it has drawn a lot more girls into also appreciating it, and that has been great to see. She has dived head first into as many activities, truly making the most of what Monkton has to offer. ~ Houseparent Report
