to the Lent Term Monkton Community events programme
It is a pleasure to welcome you to this term’s What’s On guide. As the days start to get longer and the weather (hopefully!) begins to brighten, we have another full programme of events for our Monkton Community to look forward to.
The year will get off to a lively start at our Burns Night Supper and Ceilidh, a greatly anticipated event for many of our parents and staff and an equally worthwhile opportunity to catch up with one another at the start of the year. Kilts are optional but encouraged and we hope to have a pupil band again this year!
This term will welcome back our popular Wild Monkton Field days, where both Senior and Prep School pupils will spend the day learning amongst our incredible surroundings.
The pupils will hear from some great speakers this term, both in ‘Crossfire’ CU discussions and during Monkton Lectures from the likes of Elise Wortley, an intrepid explorer, writer and presenter. In addition, there will be leadership training opportunities for our scholars through specialist workshops and further guest speakers.
As well as hosting Crossfire talks, our Chaplaincy team will hold their annual ‘Big Escape’ weekend and an Easter Service at Holy Trinity Combe Down.
Our Expressive Arts department will be as busy as ever with events including Band Night, a Joint School Concert at the Forum and the Mid Somerset Festival, where our Prep School pupils get to take part in some fantastic workshops and showcase their budding talents.
In Sport it’s Hockey for boys and Netball for girls this term which, alongside the beginning of the Rowing season, means a full programme of fixtures, tournaments and races.
Further afield from the Monkton Valley, pupils will embark on expeditions to the Brecon Beacons for the ‘Monkton Mountain Challenge’, Paris for Expressive Arts Jazz performances and Switzerland for a Physics trip to CERN, to name just a few!
Some of the greatest moments at Monkton are when our whole community comes together, and I hope I will meet many of you at these upcoming events.

The Great Monkton Bake Off
