Light Matter pro roject. This i pro roject, t which i gathers r a select l tion of works belo l nging to our museum, disttances itselfl fr di from the conventi v ional wa way in i wh w ich the collllecttions are r ex exhibitted, the gathering of wo w rk rks b schools and artitisttic gro by r ups fr from chrono r logical criteri ria. In contra r st, Light i M tter re Ma r info f rce r s the notio i n that tempora r l linea l rism i i ju is j st anoth t er way a of conceiving time, not necessarily the best; that there r as any n objec j ts, or even the re r le l va v nt events scattere r d thro r ughout our lives. l If we were r to assemble l the collec l tio i n of eve v nts that marked our lives, we w wo w uld l have to admit that they e sta t nd out fr from the ord rdinary r from the da fr days we w have v live v d up until t now, w and that w do we d not alwa l ays know what w came befo f re r and wha w t f llo fo l we w d. Thin T king k in i this dirirection, an artitist of toda day may feel closer l or more r moved by Carava v ggio i 's paintings, a sculptu l re r by b Rodi din, or even v an ancient and anonymo y us buildin i g, than by b the wo w rk rks of his i conte t mpora r ry colllleagues. Light brings works by artitists who w lilved v in i ve v ry r ffrrom each other but nonethele l ss had lilight as a common denomin i ato t r A fa f scinatio i n dating back to t Da Vin V ci, who inv i vente t d the chiaroscuro (li ( ight-da d rk): of vo v lume. Further back, k to t our ancesto t r who, wi with a drawin w g on the wall w of a cave v , made vis i ib i le a scene, an animal. This interest r gained a new impetus in the middle l of the nineteenth century ry, with w the arrival v of the Impre r ssionists, fo f r whom it was evid ident that we w did not paint di i the things i themselves v but the lilights t that, t after fo f cusin i g on thin i gs, make their i shapes and color l rs rea r ch our eyes. In th t eiri wake k came our Alflfredo Ande d rsen, Guid ido Vi Viaro, r The T odore r de d Bona, Alb l erto da d Veig V a Guignard, r Mig M uel Bakun, k among many n others that make k up our collllectition and that are r pre r sent in this exhib x itio t n. Light begins or ends with w two luminous i work rks Ñ an abstract paintiting by b To T mie Ohtake k and the photograph/collage of a landscape by Vik V Muniz.
