2020 Summer Camp Guide

MONROE COUNTY YMCA

INFORMATION

Dear Campers and Parents, Thank you for your patience as we continue to determine how the Monroe County YMCA Summer Camp will look this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. We have been tirelessly researching best practices to ensure the health and safety of our staff and campers. While we still want to provide a summer camp experience this year, we must proceed with extreme caution based on the guidelines established by the CDC, Monroe County Health Department, our insurance company, and Y-USA. Due to these directives, we have several changes to this year’s camp. Please flip through this catalog for the most up-to-date camp details. At the Y, we provide an exciting and safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build selfesteem, develop interpersonal skills, make lasting friendships, and more. Our counselors are wonderful role models, selected based on their experience, attitude, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm. They genuinely care about the individual development of each camper, serving as a guide to live and work together as a community throughout the summer. All staff are CPR and First Aid certified, and are additionally trained in risk management, child abuse prevention, behavior management, character development, and team building. We are excited to see so many returning faces, and we are ready to welcome and embrace the newcomers to Summer Camp at the Monroe County YMCA. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at SummerCamp@MonroeCountyYMCA.org with any questions you have regarding camp. We look forward to working together and embarking on your summer adventure! Sincerely, Your Monroe County YMCA Summer Camp Team

Taking a hands-on learning experience approach, campers will get messy and upfront with science! Using a variety of ooey gooey materials, campers will conduct safe experiments with their groups and watch science happen right in front of their eyes!

Campers will integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through innovative play. Campers’ minds and bodies will stay active as they are introduced to various aspects of STEM in a fun and engaging way.

Experience a week of nature-based skills training, inspiring challenges, and outrageously fun activities. Campers will learn the basic skills of surviving in the outdoors. Set your kids’ imagination free as they learn about the natural environment and the important skills needed for survival.

So you want to be a Pokémon master? Campers will build and explore the world of Pokémon as they create their own gyms, battles, and even their very own generation of Pokémon. Campers will also learn about real-world science as they discover the habitats of the Pokémon. Your camper will learn about and discuss environmental habitats, develop presentations involving relevant facts and descriptive details, and engage in topic-centered group conversations as they strive to catch ‘em all!
